It's weird i have a problem like this too, as soon as i take a puff of marijuana my back (and sometimes my insides) will hurt.

due to this problem i quit smoking it for a few months and when i tried to smoke some again my back didnt hurt too bad because i only took a couple puffs but if i smoke like a whole joint it will hurt really bad. and if i take just a few puffs at a time more often it will hurt worse and worse.

but at the time my back started hurting when i would smoke pot i was hearing voices (mental) and sometimes they would say they were gonna hurt my back when i smoked it. i dont here voices any more but it still hurts my back when i smoke it.

i honestly dont think there is any solution for this where it wont cause pain anymore.

I quit smoking pot for about 3 years then I started again whilst taking chemo for liver disease to get an appetite, I started getting back aches....I thought they were from the chemo. I quit for a few days ....no aches. Smoked some more, aches returned. I quit till the treatment finished. No back aches for 2 or three months. I still had some weed left and smoked 1 joint! And you guessed it. Hey I liked the high but There is something to it. BTW the guy that I used to get the herb from was always complaining of back pain.

I read every single post. I've smoked, though predominately vapourized, roughly everyday for 1 1/2 year. I do a form of Bikram Yoga (Hot Yoga) and it has helped tremendously. The pain is still here, which is why I'm posting (high and in pain), but I've found as long as I soberly do the practice frequently (at least every second day) it helps. When I'm doing the yoga it looks like my torso is somewhat lopsided and I always thought it might be the mj. I've actually also noticed that whilst reading all 7 pages (?) my back pain has subsided and I am perfectly comfortable again. Also maybe noted, I got way higher then normal from my volcano than I normally do. I'll post back if the pain is fixed (my back is orgasming now). Legalize it.

I cool little trick I learned to help straighten your back (and give a bit of an ab workout at the same time) if you spend a considerable time on the computer, is to sit on a yoga-ball. Sit in a straightish posture and hover your feet inches off the ground, your torso will immediately go straight to adjust for balance. That creates a straighter spine and gives you a bit of an ab workout, PLUS, scenario: you're baked and you can bounce o.O

I can safely say I've been days without back problems, I've taken a couple days off of Hot Yoga after just going everyday for a week. Will report back if backpains return. !

For the past 2 months i have been having a variety of ailments which are now mostly extreme back/neck pain (initially i had vision problems and then unsteady balance). I am a 27yo male and I too have been a casual to freuqent marijuana smoker for years. This string is fascinating, because I am beginning to wonder myself if marijuana actually increases my pain :/

i have smoked off and on in recent years. Sometimes continuously for days at a time and sometimes having several weeks to a month between consumption. I always get a bit edgey on weed and have an increased level of anxiety and awareness and intensity, (which is what i love about smoking it). But now it seems to only cause me pain and make these scary symptoms im having worse.

i am worried i may potentially have something like ms or lupus or cancer of some form.. The only thing that is really distressing, is that i thought marijuana would potentially HELP with any of these kinds of illnesses :-( It is depressing. If i have a terminal illness and i cant even smoke weed for comfort... that totally f*****g sucks. Is there any known illness where marijuana will exasperate the symptoms of pain? or is this just for all us weirdos who found this string lol

One thing i didn't see mentioned here, which i, myself have always wondered about for years is, if people who have bad allergies have a different reaction from weed than other normal people. Personally i have alot of allergies to pollens and plants. If i roll in the grass im always going to get so itchy that i scratch myself to a minor rash. During the spring i itch my eyes out of control and i will tear up from pollens along with sneezing continuously. I've often wondered if people who are similar to me would have similar effects from smoking weed than people who dont have allergy symptoms. I mean, some people seem completely calm and relaxed after smoking some grade a sativa... while personally my mind is racing a billion miles an hour and i feel completely intense/uncomfortable...but excited and stimulated.

I guess i am going to try to stop smoking and continue eating healthy and hope for the best. they say almost anything is curable these days if you rearrange your lifestyle, diet and eliminate toxic factors so im on it.

I can't tell you how happy I am to have found this thread and "the others". My story - I am a regular cannabis smoker with occasional other plant hallucinogen use, I try to stay on the shamanic/learning side of things rather than pure indulgence, and have found myself in complete agony with lower back pain *exclusively* when using these plants. I do have an underlying back problem, but on an ordinary straight day it has never got beyond a niggle, certainly not needed painkillers or stopped me doing anything. Over the last five years I have found myself on the floor with frozen peas, pressed up against hot radiators and generally learning a new yoga of psychedelic pain management. The pain multiplies by a factor of ten only when plants are introduced, I can confirm that cannabis and two other plant hallucinogens have had this effect.

I get about fifteen minutes after smoking before the pain comes, and it stays around for hours on maximum setting after then. There is an obvious answer of not smoking any more pot, but I am now seeking out an genuine explanaition for this condition. I like some of the ones offered so far, and wonder if there's any way to get a proper diagnosis or more information on these things. The onset of pain under these conditions is a unique and genuine scientific factor, yet I doubt any doctors or back specialists would be very interested in this particular experiment. Anyway, glad to be in similar company and here's to more understanding of this very peculiar problem. Namaste.

Same problem need a solution. Going to try and take 1 hydro codine and try and relax my muscles then smoke and see how it goes.

THC increases phenylethylamine (PEA) by 4x-6x, and phenylethylamine increases brain levels of dopamine and norepinepherine, powerful neurotransmitter stimuilants. Overstimulation and muscle tension result, and can cause severe pain. I have a feeling that acetylcholine levels are increased too, but I have not confirmed that yet. High acetylcholine levels would also cause tension and aching pain.

Marijuana is the only true, all natural medicine. I am a recreational user and sometimes when I use, my arm muscles ache but you know what? The side effects are very minimal in comparison to most all pharmaceuticals. Do the research and realize all the government propaganda...

What ? Along with the thousands of other true, all natural herbs that have been used as medicine since day one ? By using the term "side effects" you are talking about a plant in pharmaceutical language, it has no side effects, just effects. Almost anyone who has the choice of pharmaceuticals or herbs, also has the ability to educate themselves as to the differences, and most folk are quite happy to go with big pharma - that's why they are still big, because people choose them, not because they are blinded by government propaganda.

I woke up with a strain on the left side of my spine in the lower back region about 4 months ago. During the first 3 weeks I managed to smoke about once a week and every time the pain would worsen and remain worse for days. I stopped smoking for a few months and slowely my back pain started to improve to the point where I wasn't really feeling much of anything anymore. Thinking I was cured, I decided that smoking might be ok again but as soon as I smoked more than a single hit (around 4-5) the pain returned and I freaked that I was bringing back my chronic back pain to new levels. I felt very off balance and had extreme anxiety thoughout the experience. I have smoked for year and never had a problem until i received the strain. I agree with the muscle relaxation theory that it is the cause that puts your spine out of line, the asymptomatic side of my spine seemed to become overly relaxed, while the painful side seemed to become inflamed. It looks like I'm just going to have to quit smoking all together.
My friends just thought I was crazy when i mentioned it. So i'm not really high anymore but my back still hurts, it might be because my back cracked a few times while I was high, and in a much more intense way than how it cracks when I am sober. Possibly I'm still out of alignment. Has anyone had the pain carry over for several days or maybe even weeks after you smoke? I'm glad to see I'm not the only one too, my friends seriously thought that i was just having a panic attack and that it was all in my head

Consider an allergic reaction to cannabis, or that you are coughing and this is causing tension which is leading to pain.
