Getting cyst on scalp removed -- questions?

Hi there,
I have had a benign cyst on my scalp for a few years now. I am finally getting it removed next week. My question is, has anybody has this done? I am wondering what the aftercare will be? Will I have to wear a big bandage on my hair for days? Can I wash my hair?
The doc said it would be about a 1 cm incision with 2, maximum 3 stitches. He will just shave the hair exactly where the cyst is (about 1 cm).
I'm worried I will have to walk around with a big bandage on my hair and stitches sticking out.
Thanks!

I've had 3 different removals by different docs. Family doctor in office, did the packing and allow to heal from the inside out. The local surgeon group left it ooen to drain (causing an infection) the dermatologist stitched it closed. I have some swelling, but so far no infection, no draining, no excessive bleeding. It is best to get them done when they are smaller. Mine are so large, I'm having them done in stages (about the size of a large marble.) They have busted under the skin and spread to other areas causing more smaller ones to pop up. I have to have my skalp scraped and the affected areas cut and cleaned so thay nothing comes back.

This sounds exactly like what I went through on Tuesday just 5 days ago. I have not been able to sleep because I'm used to sleeping on my back. I have a lot of pain in my head and my neck. They had me take Tylenol extra strength and that helps for about 3 hours and then the pain is back. I went back to the doctor on Friday and he put me on an antibiotic called Doxycyclin Hyclate. It's been 5 days and I still have pain. I have a trip on Thursday and I'm praying I'm over this pain by then. I hope to NEVER have to go through anything like this again! :(
I had two pretty decent size cysts removed from my scalp. One on top middle, and one slightly toward the back of my head.
I was provided with no after care instructions. I showered and washed my hair (gently) the same day, as it was a little bit bloody.
I also noticed the doctor left the sutures very long, is there a reason for this? They actually stick out through my beanie on the back of my head. This is going to drive me nuts if they need to stay this long for two weeks.
:(
I had this done 2 days ago. I had several stitches and left the surgery with a dressing on. I wore a hat home. I was told to buy some “plaster spray” and use it for a week before I return to have the stitches taken out.
thank you very much
thank you so much
I had a cyst removed from the top of my head on Monday morning. My Dr. Was amazing! She was able to set up the spot around the bump so that there was minimal mess. She numbed it with a needle, did the incision, 3 stitches when all was said and done. The cyst popped right out in a little compact ball, so maybe mine was easier than most. No one could even tell it had been done! She removed a bit of skin and sewed it up so that there is no longer a bald spot where the cyst was. I was able to go back to work after and so far have had no issues. The stitches are dissolvable and will be gone in 2 weeks. I highly recommend getting it done. I don’t think shaving should be necessary...
I'm relieved to read that! I have 3 times more fluid in my brain than normal, and wouldn't appreciate anymore being exposed!
I removed my own cyst and now i have a whole. It doesn't seem to be closing... what do i do?
Thank you for sharing, I love how detail you were, explaining every step, I am having my surgery soon and I wanted to have an ideal about the process, thank you again, I truly appreciate it...
I just had three taken out today. The whole thing took about 45 mins start to finish. The Novocain wore off pretty quickly so I recommend Tylenol before you have it done. The incision sites do definitely hurt quite a bit and I have four stitches in each incision that have to be removed in two weeks but I am glad that I finally had them taken care of despite the current pain
