hello im suffering with the same problem its a nasty horrible taste i darent speak or even kiss my girlfriend i had a toith taken out wha i have realised is ny gum is repairing it self and every now then the taste would come again its like
a puss comin out my gums but really wha i think is that its the flesh comin off my gum as its repairing in goin the dentist again monday for some fillings so i will ask what it is and let everyone know if its a major worry

I just got 4 wisdom teeth removed and a huge cyst removed from my mouth and my stitches ripped out but what helps me with this taste is to gulp down drinks right away because before that I was sipping and that ruined chocolate milk for me. What also helps and my surgeon told me, is to take a syringe and with warm water, and stick it in the extraction hole just a little and rinse it out. Dont worry about the blood that's just the dried up blood. I do this 2 times a day and when I do rinse about 8 in each wich you should NOT do. Hope this help just remember it will be over soon.

Samething but after irrigating with a syringe the taste was still there. But I had no smell.

I had 2 teeth pulled 2 1/2 weeks ago. I have had a horrible sour taste which started 5 days post. It's not getting any better and my dentist has no clue as to why. It's so sour that it causes my salivary glands to work overtime, it also happens when I'm sleeping.

There are several reasons this could be happening:
1. Infection. If your surgeon did not put you on antibiotics (or if they did, sometimes you need something different or stronger) you could have an infection. If you notice a discharge or puss coming from the site, see your dentist ir surgeon immediately.
2. Dry socket. This can happen when you lose the clot healing in the socket where the tooth was. It can be quite painful as well. Again, contact your dentist or surgeon immediately.
3. Stitches. Your stitches can get a nasty taste/smell, like rot and copper. This is from the blood that sits in the stitches. Once they come out, this should clear up for you. Do NOT take out your stitches! Also, remember that you cannot swish or use straws for the first 72 hours to snail's above said dry socket. See your dentist to see if you've healed enough that he can remove them. Also, sometimes stitches can get imbedded in the body and get infected, though this can take longer to happen. Again, as above, see your dentist/surgeon to explore your options.

I hope this helps! I recently also had this happen. Once the stitches came out of my mouth, the taste went away immediately. Hopefully this is the problem, and there's no infection, but better safe than sorry. If ever you have a question after surgery, contact your doctor. He would rather see you than hear you ended up in the hospital due to an infection that got out of control!

I've just had a back tooth out myself about a week ago and it's started to taste a bit funny glad I found this was planning a trip back to the dentist ill give it a bit longer to heal

I had a tooth pulled 3 days ago and today I got a horrible taste when I cough and my breath too. It was infected and I took meds before it was pulled.. I rinsed with mouth wash and then coughed after and red tint came out a couple times. I'm wondering if it's dried blood that got into my throat? I did change the banges sooner then I was supposed to so many some blood got in there?

I had my lower right and upper right wisdom teeth removed by local anesthetic. I also had the molar in front of my wisdom tooth removed as well (impacted, decayed and destroyed sadly). First two days were pretty easy going, no pain, paracetamol did the trick, however on day 3 I started experiencing an increase in pain in my right side jaw at the rear of my mouth. I upgraded to Ibuprofen as the paracetamol brought little (none) comfort. On day 4 the pain was now radiating to my ear, with stabbing pain sensation and a foul taste in my mouth accompanied. Ibuprofen was still managing the pain, and could hold off the pain for about 3 to 4 hours, sometimes longer. However, I went back to my dentist, because the pain is not supposed to increase. My dentist assessed it as bacterial infection starting and prescribed antibiotics and codeine if required. Further he provided an antiseptic mouth (Savacol) wash and advised only twice a day to put the mouth wash in my mouth and tilt my head so that the mouthwash would sit over my wound in my mouth. Hold it there for 30 seconds (no swishing or swirling - just tilt and hold). He said repeat the 30 seconds twice in a row and only do it twice a day for a week (before bed & when wake up). The foul taste in my mouth disappeared within 24 hours, the would appeared to reduce in swelling/redness. The pain was easing up. Hope this helps. Return to your dentist if the pain increases after 2/3 days. Many people are different, however, it doesn't hurt to get your Dentists' opinion.

I have had seven extractions and never had dry socket or any complications. One thing I swear by is this. collect a sprig of lavendar, a comfrey leaf and calendula leaves. simmer 10mins in water cool down add salt and now you have an antibactarial wash and you'll heal fast without pain.

Me too, I've had two wisdom teeth out and a couple of other extractions, never experienced this rot taste. Horrendous! Anyway they didn't want me to rinse with salt water till after 72 hours, but I couldn't take it anymore, I rinsed after 45. It still seeps out intermittently. I hope it gets better quick.

Based on several responses from those in the field, the strange taste and smell following an extraction are normal symptoms of the healing process.

A lot of times taking antibiotics will force a woman to get yeast infections. Almost every time I take antibiotics I get one, so I know how you feel. You can purchase a medicine otc to relieve the pain and itching.
