its been little bit over a month and I use to weigh 378 now im at 340 and dropping fast what i did was plain out no more sodas or sugary drinks everything must be sugar free or drink water. Buy some healthy vegetables and fruits that you enjoy eat skinless chicken or fish and  try to not eat much beef or pork. eat healthy tv dinners try to keep them under 310 calories healthy choice tv dinners  are pretty good but when you start to get hungry and you already ate breakfast  lunch or dinner keep a fruit on hand or some carats or even sugar free snacks. Exercise but start out small make goals for yourself like if your walked 10 minutes 1 day next day do 11 and every day add a minute the key thing to do is you gotta keep a strong mentally cause half the battle is in the mind itself when you catch yourself going through the fridge stop think what you are gonna put into yourself resist tell yourself no im stronger than this rite now as im typing im hungry but im gonna fight it and grab a apple :) Good Luck

Do you realize this question was first posted in 2006?  I still recommend the R&D Diet Cookie as the best answer.  They are basically a number of "mini meals" that you eat every few hours throughout the day then you eat a low-calorie, sensible, balanced dinner.  The cookies curb your hunger and cravingns making it possible to stay on your diet.  Good Luck!

IF YOU WANT HELP READ THIS IT IS WORTH IT 100%

Hello everyone, I have struggled with weight problems from childhood until now, and know exactly how each and every one of you feel!

I am 17 yrs Old, Australia, Female, last year i began to walk everyday as it was peaceful and helped me release stress of school etc, despite how i felt (the same) i was getting comments like; "wow you look great" and "you have lost soooo much weight", in a way it made me feel really great although at the same time i myself didnt see any dramatic results. HERE is a true and honest fact - Walking does work yes, only if it is moderate to vigourous, and what it does is changes your body from what it is now to a smaller identical shape. it burns fat but doesn't tone!

i myself had changed from larger pear to smaller pear, and in actual fact didn't notice the difference myself although i did feel i had more energy etc.

I have tried everything, detox diets, colon cleaners, walking, done it all. And i haven't had great results!

the vast majority of people commenting/posting here are within 14-18 the exact age where people struggle with their weight and body image, the age you want to turn up to school and be the HOT or attractive girl or boy for once, not just the kid at the front of the class noone noticed, when summer comes you want to wear a bikini not hide away in your room or wear singlets and shorts over top covering the body you are ashaimed of! i know i didn't..

:) I myself have changed from i guess flab to ab from january too now and i don't intend on stopping what i have been doing now.. although i started seeing results straight away first io felt a million dollars second omg for once in my life i could actually run and third i have a boyfriend and he is HOT :)

all i ever did was waisted my time looking up rediculous waste of time sites like : how to lose wight in 2 weeks etc. i wanted something that would do it then and there.. but the truth is if you do that not only are you harming your body, its not going to last long and in actual fact you are going to pile it and the rest right back on oh and did i add even more than you lost? the only way you can lose weight and stay that weight for a long period of time is make it something you can stick to for life! and i personally know that i can allocate 30mins of my day to look great! weather it be wake up early go to be late or give up some tv it is worth it!!!! and if you can't than that is PATHETIC and you dont deserve a good body!

(if you eat a choc bar each day then expect a heart attack at a young age)

eating healthy now is going to increase your quailty of life, make you live for a longer period of time, feel better, and look fantastic!

remember to lose weight you have to work off more than you have eaten that day, so put down the fork and go for a walk!

Here are a few handy tips!;

 ignore that fake t.v slogans

find 30 + minutes a day for your body

give up fizzy drinks and substitue it for water

fruit is awesome, it tastes great try it :)

don't starve yourself big breakfast medium lunch big dinner.

OH AND FOR THE RECORD I HAVE LOST 17KG and still going strong :)

remeber if you workout in the morning you burn calories throughout the day and while you sleep

snack there is nothing wrong with it just make it valuable! like low fat yoghurt or some fruit

DRINK LOTS OF WATER, it flushes all the bad antioxidants out

keep hydrated

take before and after pictures, and 30 minutes of exercise a day is minimum if you are between 13-20 you are expected to workout at least an hour a day, but work yourself up to it!

If you take this advice you will see results, and fast, the bigger you are the faster you will lose it, i have made the top half for people that do not want to hear form me again although if you i can coach you through this experience and it doesn't matter which country you are in i'm here to help you free of charge ok! email me if you want me to help you with a routine give you advice and help you reach your goals ok, i will give you workout programs and support you through this! :  ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** private e-mails not allowed*** Please read our Terms of Use

I'm 15 and 6' and weigh 200lbs. I'm actually pretty skinny but only since I started playing sports. There is a secret to losing weight that I had to learn as a wrestler and that secret is starving doesn't help...

To lose weight you have to 3 things-

1. Drink as much water as you possibly can!!! Water helps in so many ways! By drinking water instead of soda you will start to see something incredible. Your body will start to release excess water which could make you lose water weight. Drinking a nice big glass of water before a meal will also make you eat less if you wait long enough.

2. EAT!!! Your body is like one big furnace and needs fuel. So a really sweet trick I learned with wrestling was that by eating 5-6 small meals a day you start to burn weight rapidly.

3. Exercise. It can be really hard to do at first for some people but you don't have to go to a gym or run 10 miles, instead do something that you like. Whether it may be playing basket ball or swimming, you will be getting exercise and might even make new friends. Excersing regulary will make a huge difference.

The last thing is this... You don't want to lose all the weight immedietly! By doing something over time it becomes natural in building a healthy lifestyle and its something you can do over the course of time.

Hope this helps and good luck but have fun!

I've seen a lot of people posting their stories on here, this is my story, I am 19 and currently weigh about 16 stone and I am 6ft, I gym quite frequently but after a year of uni I have put on maybe 2 stone, before I was a lot thinner and I have developed a beer belly. When I was younger I was very over weight - about 12 stone at the age of ten, then when I was 14 I started martial arts, by the time I was 16 I was still 12 stone, about 5 foot 10, BMI of about 22 (GCSE biology made us work out these) and was training four times a week. So you're probably thinking; what went wrong? How did I lose that weight? What diet did I take etc...

Well first of all, once I had hit the age of 18, and was of legal age to go clubbing and drinking etc, my social life took over and my fitness went down hill, took up smoking etc.

So how did I lose this weight and what advice can I give to those who want to cut those extra pounds? Well what you need to do is find a sport that you love, or any form of exercise for that matter. For me it was martial arts, and I can't recommend this enough. With the discipline system and the hierarchy of a martial arts club my attention was thoroughly kept week after week, at first I did find the circuit training hard but I was adement that I wanted to be the best fighter in my school so I stuck to it.

BUILD YOURSELF UP GRADUALLY. I started training on monday nights for two hours. After I had achieved a couple of belts I started the thursday night training of another couple of hours, then a few months later I was training wednesday and friday nights as well for competitions. This plus the p.e/sports I was doing at school really totalled up the numbers of hours of exercise I was doing a week. I was noticeably a lot thinner within a few months of starting.

Did I diet? The answer is no, not intentionally anyway. For me, training began at 7 p.m and was finished by 9.30 - 10 p.m most nights. This meant most of the time I would only snack before training so I wasn't bloated or got cramps. Once I had got home that night I was either too tired or just not peckish, probably something due to adrenaline. And yes, it does make you feel good after a hard training session especially if you feel you have improved, be it fitness or skill. One thing that I had deliberately changed in me eating habits was the consumption of fast foods and fizzy drinks; I often surpassed the opportunity to eat McDonald's and replaced coca-cola with fruit juices. Lucky for me I was at school when Jamie Oliver revamped the food system, I had little access to fizzy pop.

What's next for me? Well, I've joined a boxing club again at university, and unfortunately (or fortunately from my health's point of view) my timetable means I can't enjoy myself as much this year so I have more time to train. Am I going to change my diet? Well less beer is going to be consumed anyway this year, which also means less takeaways because if you are anything like me the two often go hand in hand. And my gym membership is going to also get thoroughly abused.

So to those on here who have little faith with losing faith here are some tips I would like to recap:
  • Find a form of exercise you enjoy, or better love.
  • Don't be embarrassed joining a club/team due to your fitness or body shape, they see it all the time and are often glad you came to them to help shift some weight
  • Similarly, don't be embarrassed at your gym if you are surrounded by athletic people, even if they can bench-press a small vehicle don't be intimidated - they had to start somewhere too.
  • Ignore McDonald's and other takeaways (read their nutritional information - it's horrendous), but treat yourself once in a blue moon.
  • If you are young and still in school, just a few hours extra training a week will really help improve your body image.
  • IT DOESN'T JUST FALL OFF. You will see an improvement within a few months if you stay focused and determined.
  • Don't be tormented by the scales, your weight fluctuates daily anyway as you go to the toilet, perspire, eat, drink etc...
  • If you really want to make a comparative, take a photo of yourself in your underwear and save it in the depths of your computer where your family, or worse your friends, can find it. After a few months take another, notice the difference.
  • Diet if you need to, if you decide you're going to be training every single night of the week heavily then you don't necessarily need to diet, do what works best with you.
  • Another thing with diets are that they can become boring quickly, if you have the money try weight watchers or an alternative group.
  • DON'T BELIEVE WHAT DIET PILLS TELL YOU. Their main purpose in this world is to prey on people's insecurities and to profit from them. There is very little evidence they work/are placebo medication. And if you read scientific studies into "Thermogenic" foods you will see that there is also very little proof that these supplements have a sustained effect.
  • Do not misuse laxatives, yes they shed weight, but this is water mass. Prolonged use can lead to dehydration and low mineral content. I'm sure brittle bones are not what you intended.
  • When you reach a weight/body shape/dress size you are happy with stop with the dieting and do not by any means starve yourself. The problems caused by anorexia and other eating disorders are disastrous and are as bad as being overweight. LEARN TO ACCEPT YOURSELF.
  • And finally, be determined. Like I said earlier, Rome wasn't built in a day, commit yourself to it and you will achieve what you want.
