I too have had sporadic pain in the left side of my throat. It first occurred last spring, maybe once during the winter and again this month (Sept). It is painful to swallow. I feel like it must be allergy related. There are no other symptoms other than the pain and difficuty in swallowing. It only last for a few days at a time. I haven't gone to a doctor because I think I would end up with all kinds of scary test for nothing.

I don't want a bunch of tests either, but a "baruim swallow" test is non-invasive, simple. Pictures are taken as you swallow the thick barium goo.

This makes sense that it IS because of cigarette smoke. I have been helping people clear out stuff from their house for the last couple of weeks. Everyone smokes inside the home there. Talk about carbon monoxide! :0 It's like putting your mouth around a car exhaust!!!
My question though is to WHY is it only the left side of the throat??? I have been fearing the cancer thing too. :!:

I've been having the same problem for about three weeks, but have not experienced any ear pain. I've never smoked in my life and have not spent much time around smokers. I just moved into college so i was thinking that could be part of the reason? The pain is on and off but at its worst its a sharp stinging pain on one side when i swallow.

Hi my name is Diego and I'm feeling this odd pain too.

It began with a pain on my throat similar to the one you get when you are going to have flu, and a small pain at the esophagus near to the stomach.

I decided to treat the possible gastritis with an antiacid, (mylanta will do the trick, although I took some ditopax insteed).

After that I thought that maybe my throat was infected and I started to use oral antiseptic, (clorhexidina, yodopodivona, and I'm thinking in going with Loratadina).

So far the gastritis sensation dissapeared, and half of my throath still hurts. For some reason the pain increases at night, it's present when I swallow, cof, talk to loud, and even laugh.

4 days so far. The use of a scarf has help me overcome the pain a little bit.

I have the left side tonsil area throat pain too. I have a bit of medical background emt, lmt. Tonsil problems can go on for months, six or so I've learned. I had sinus problems a month ago and I told my doc. about my ongoing tonsil problem. He told me people can have bouts with tonsillittis over their life time several (5) times. For me at age 44, he told me since this was my first battle, I'll likely keep my tonsils. If however you are younger, you may want to have them out some day. Anyway, the Doc. prescribed a ZPACK and that helped my sinus infection and stopped my tonsil pain for a week or two, but it returned. It mostly hurts when I swallow.

What's going on? I've had the same symptoms as all of you. It hurst when I yawn, but even more when I sneeze or cough. I went to my Doctor at Kaiser and didn't seem to like the fact that my Dentist prescribed antibiotics for it. The Kaiser Doctor said that they're just muscle spasms and it's a mechanical thing that there's nothing to worry or can be done about it. He even says that he gets that as well.
I have never felt that before and don't think it's normal. When I asked my Doctor how long should I expect it to last, he had no answer, so go figure.
So, please as soon as somebody knows anything about this let me know, because I've had it for about 1 month an a half and it seems to keep going.

I commented as I guess and I'm not sure what happened, but I just signed in.
I have been dealing with the same for about a month and a half. I went to my Doctor with Kaiser and he says that it's nothing that can be done, since it's more of a mechanical think. It's a muscle having spasms and that he even gets that sometimes. My Dentist gave me antibiotics and my Kaiser Doctor litteraly frowned up on that.
It happenes when I yawn, sneeze or cough.
I never felt this before and I'm not convinced that it's normal. I am not a smoker and Pseudoephedrine from a previous Doctor's visit did not help either.
Please let me know as soon as anybody hears anything.

first of al chill out it is highly unlikely that you all happen to have the same cancer
you guys have what is called an infection ask to get tested for viral ( i don't think its bronchitis because bronchitis is respiratory wouldn't cause an ear infection)
make sure you take your antibiotics and do not miss a day or they will not work
eat healthy try to stay away from dry grain products because if theres any swelling it will linger in your throat
and drink lots of hot stuff and try to not talk as much.

I'm not worry about cancer, I just never felt this before. The antibiotics helped a little bit, but I have to be careful when I sneeze, cough or yawn. When I'm going to sneeze, it helps to hold my throat area where it hurts and kind of lower my head as I sneeze. It helps when I yawn as well, kind of like using one of those muscle straps for an arm or leg muschle injury. This probably helps to avoid any further develpments. I just don't think this should be something I should just "deal with" for the rest of my life. It's been 1.5 months and getting better. We'll see.

No I didn't find anything out. I'm actually really afraid to go to the dr. Are you a smoker? I am actually having a major problem with my jaw right now. I am almost positive that is the tmj. I have been reading more on tmj and it sounds like this is what might be causing my other problems. I don't have a sore throat anymore but I am worried it might come back. I also suffer from allergies all year round so its too hard to tell. I am going to the dr soon. If you find out anything let me know. Good luck!

it is definatly a sinus infection. i get this all the time i actually just started one yesterday and i am already takeing something to help my through. i think its cloraseptic spray. all it does is num the throught and make it easier to swallow without feeling pain.
