I so know what you are talking about. I am 37 yrs and have had this for about 7 yrs now. I just hate it. I too get those LOUD noises in class, not the low digesting sounds, but like if someone said "rrrrooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaa" it is LOUD. I'm am so embarrassed that it takes away from me listening in class because I am praying and hoping the noises stop! I am a dental assistant and dread my work due to me sitting next to the patient's head and want a cure for this. I too get nervous of the noises when in a quite room and sure enough, they come! What can we do, if you find something that works, please let me know. I have tried the meds for acid reflux and have tried the Gas-X meds too and they just don't work.

This sounds exactly what I have. Just today, taking a test, I had the worst noise, so embarrassing. I'm a vegetarian, and I know I'm really low potassium b/c when I'd go to give blood, half the time I couldn't, and they told me to eat foods high in potassium before I went. It makes sense b/c I never had this problem when I ate meat. Gonna try getting potassium in and see how it works!

Well ,I share the same destiny as most of you guys (Very loud growling) but my background is somehow different. I am 30 and I started a strict diet when I was 27. In those days I started to eat NOTHING but uncooked vegetables, fruits, and dried nuts (without any salt), I no longer ate rice, bread or any cooked food, ANY. I was very serious about my diet and I was determined to continue it for ever! after only two months on this dies, I was extremely happy with both the results and my life, I slept like a baby at night, lost 20 KG, felt more energetic, lost all acnes, stopped loosing hair; the list is endless. The only drawback was that I was not able to tolerate cold temperatures.

Thing changed one year ago when I had to attend a 6-months welding class located at the middle of a desert! My classes began at 7 am and lasted to 4 pm. At first, I was determined to continue the diet, but it was very difficult to prepare lunch for the next day, so, I acted against my wish and agreed to have ordinary cooked meals (which they served there as lunch and mostly consisted of rice, meat and soup, ordinary Persian meals). Still I had fruits and nuts for breakfast and vegetables, fruits, nuts for lunch. I immediately started my old vegan diet after the classes ended (they lasted 6 months). Again I was in paradise with my beloved diet.

Some two months later, in the middle of a regular English class, my stomach started to growl so loud that the teacher asked me whether I had breakfast or not, I was very embarrassed and the rest of my embarrassment is just like what most of you described here. The growling continued since. It is even growling right now.

About three months ago I visited a gastroenterologist and described my syndromes. Just loud growlings, no pain, no diarrhea, no blood in stool, no melena, no burps. I told him that I feel that my bowel doesn't empty completely and i think either there are parasites or blockages in my bowels. He refused to agree with them and suggested that I stop my diet, and reduce amount of veg I eat daily. I did conform, against my will. He also said that I have to undergo gastroscopy the next day. I agreed with that too.

The next day, I did undergo gastroscopy and at the end, the doctor told me "I don't know how on earth you managed to live"! imagine how frustrated I was when the doctor told me that! I have posted a sample of my blood test (which i took before suffering from growling) and the images of my gastroscopy and the results of a pathology test in the following temporary website, please don't panic if you see them: saeed, digitalzones, com

replace commas with dots :)

He also prescribed two pills: Clidinium-C and Pantoprazole. I took them two times a day for two months. Next, when the pathology results came out, we found out that I was infected with H.Pylori so the doctor prescribed two antibiotics: Amoxiciline and Clarithromycine as well. My growling hasn't stopped yet. So, I think even the doctor was not able to pinpoint the root of this disorder. tomorrow I have another appointment with him and I have in mind to ask him to check the stool for possible hidden blood and give me some anti-parasite pills. I will keep you informed about what happens to me and I believe we can solve this problem here in this forum once and for all.

please feel free to contact me about this subject:

Hi everyone! I am a fellow frustrated individual with excessive stomach noises. I have been reading all of your blogs for over a year now. I always thought about writing here (and other forums similar to this), but procrastinated since I didn't find any cure to this disease. So at last, I've taken the time out to sit down and update you all on my version of the story. Well, mine got really long; so I just decided to upload it on Google Doc. This way I also get to update my post as any new findings come up and you always get the latest version of the story. Here's the link:

Hi Everyone. I dealt with stomach growling for MANY YEARS and it practically ruined my life. I was afraid to go to the movies, stop going to church, was embarrassed on dates, couldn't go back to school because I knew it would growl during class, and the list went on and on. So I did a lot of reading online and I changed the following and bam, it is gone!! I can now attend church, i'm going back to school and going to the movies is not an issue. I don't even think about it all that much anymore so I wanted to pass this along since I had read this post a while back. Not sure what exactly stopped the stomach growling but here's what I changed:

-I stopped chewing GUM - I read on one post that sorbitol can cause stomach growling. I was chewing gum a lot! Instead of chewing gum, I now floss every day and swish with a splash of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide mixed with water, swish for a minute, repeat one time.
-I stopped drinking Coke and ALL other soda. I only drink coffee, water, juices or tea.
-I started taking Apple Cider Vinegar - 1 tablespoon 2 times daily mixed with water. This also helped with acid reflux fyi!
-I prayed about it. I know this sounds cheesy but I did.

Like I said, I can't pinpoint why my stomach was growling, all I know is that I am now free and hope to help others!!

I tried all other medical websites to narrow down my symptoms and possible causes. NONE of them worked. I went to a gastrointestinologist and he said it was stress. Well since I was finishing my Master's degree and getting married, I believed him. For 2 years now, the problem hasn't gone away. The rumbling is SO loud people will turn around because they probably think its something else. I get super nervous in any quiet setting: meetings, church, movies, etc. Please share anything else you may know. I am going to try the potassium, I will research IBS a little more. I really need to improve this.

Hello :$.
I have the same weird stomach problem. It really has ruined my life. It all started since i was 8 yrs. old still happening now 19. I never wanted to go to school because i was afraid that my stomach would growl super loud. I would feel like crying when it happened, kids would laugh and made jokes about me. :'( The weird thing is that it would just happen when everything was QUITE. I hate going to quite places because thats when the LOUD growling starts. It usually happens in the library, at the movies, while taking a test and just about anywhere that i dont hear sounds. I am really worried because i will soon start college and i dont know what to do. Which is why i decided to go for online courses and all because of this weird stomach problem. I asked a doctor about it and all he said was that it might be because i just think about it happening. I realized theres a few things that help my stomach stop with the weirdness. I find out that whenever i c**p after eating breakfast my stomach wont growl as LOUD as it usually does. Also when i c**p after eating LUNCH, that helps me alot with the growling. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. I hope that we can all find an answer to stop this weirdness.

hi my name is ashley and i was looking up cures for stomach grumbling and i saw all your guys posts. It said your posts were about three years ago so i'm hoping by now you've all found a cure and i was wondering if you could help me. i am 15 right now and have been experencing this for about a year. its basically been the exact same as everyone else who posted stories. the doctors thought it was IBS at 1st but the medicine and diet didn't work out and the noises continued. summer is almost over and i'm about to start sophmore year and i'm dreading it. it seems over the summer my stomach has only gotten worse! please if you have anything that helped you or any advice please get back to me please!!! sorry i'm writing this threw tears. i'm fed up with this and all the stress, depression, embarrassment. i'm thinking about becoming home schooled, even though i'd rather not because i loved school and all my friends. i just want to be normal again like i was in middle school!

thanks so much for your time.

Ok, even though my post to this thread is a few years older than the previous ones, I believe someone like myself will come across this eventually and could use another opinion. I am currently 25 years old and I developed stomach noise issues when I was around 21. Now briefly I will explain several reasons for stomach noises; some say your stomach growels after eating meals (true, your stomach is digesting the food which creates air pockets), some say it growels when you are hungry which is also true- not sure the exact name, but there is a chemical or something that alerts your brain that you're hungry and that its nearing breakfast, lunch, snack or dinner time. There could also be other issues such as having too much caffeine, fatty-foods (like I had dunkin donuts sandwhich and a medium hot coffee before a class)- also chocolate, or diary products in addition to sugars are also dangerous foods. My problem has gotten a bit out of control (which is why I feel a little better knowing others are suffering too- no offense:-P ). Some say that YOU hear the stomach noises louder than those around you (perhaps because they are internal and ON TOP of you..?) Some also say that stress and anixety (working oneself up prior to the awkward situation we HAVE to be put into) which all seem like legitimate, true reasons. I believe that my mind is over-working this a bit because I noticed it when taking a test in a criminal justice class with -oh, like 40 people and my stomach made a loud noise which humiliated me- though I don't know if anyone even noticed. This problem had gotten worse to the point that I dropped out of in-class college and continued my education via online- which is just as effective. It has been two years and I am nervous about quiet situations- once, I almost didn't go to my cousin's wedding because of a quiet church. On a normal day I don't mind so much as to where I go or who hears my stomach (never will see them again anyway) but sometimes I still get nervous. I have this new job and orientation is comming up and I am nervous because they hire once a month and there could be from 4 people to 25, however, it's a human services position and couldn't see that many people being hired (knock on wood). But, we are professionals and pyschology majors so if they hear me they shouldn't laugh, right? They could think I am hungry and feel bad (that's what that lady interviewing me said- hey, I had to ask lol..) I wish that you could like stand up and introduce your name and something embarressing or interesting and alert everyone right off the bad- kind of make a joke of it, and then if they hear it they already know:) But I am still suffering, but hey? I was thinking that I have been home for a week or two and when I am sitting alone and haven't or even did eat, my stomach hasn't made any noises really, or no real LOUD ones- so maybe stress and being worked up does make it worse because I am sure it's groweled before in life just I haven't noticed it. My mother said her groweled in court a few times and she doesn;t care really or develope any issues. Ok this is a really long post- hope it helps.

Yeah, I too have this so-called growling noise sometimes and I've been paying close attention to which side of the stomach it is occurring in. I suggest you do the same and see if it confirms my research. I've found that when it growls on the right side this is associated to when you might be nervous, fearful, worried, thinking about bad things happening, overly aggressive or out of balance, or when hungry... and when it growls on the left side of the stomach it seems to be associated when thinking of good ideas, during or after eating, being in a positive or very comfortable state of mind. So to me noises on the left side seems to be energy draining and noises on the right side to be energy building. Sometimes it kind of seems that the two sides are in some kind of tug-of-war and it goes back and forth between both sides.

This theory would explain why it always seems to happen to folks especially when it's very quiet, because you're worried and uncomfortable, and sure enough it goes off right on cue, probably on the right side. Then I find that many times after the first loud noises on the right side, the left side will then start going off trying to compensate. So I think it's actually more of a natural body energetic exchange which is taking place instead of just a digestion issue. Normal digestion sounds to me are more of a gurgling sound, where you can actually feel the food shifting... but these other loud, and many times quiet, growling sounds I believe to be like electrical energy discharges or exchanges, which strike kind of like lightning striking the Earth.

Curious to know if any of these conclusions make sense to you guys after paying close attention to which side of the stomach is making noises during particular circumstances.

i have had the same problems as all of you. It started one day when my stomach made some noises and these girls behind me were laughing. So after that i would always get it. When i go to church i would often fake sick, i skipped so much school, pretended like i was sick. I have tried everything. At work sometimes my boss needs to count my till in a quiet room and i always ask him if i can have the door open. I think he things im weird but im too embarassed. It really has ruined my life. I quit going to wednesday church because of it because i know everyone can hear and i am so embarassed. Also work meetings were really hard for me because i would sit there just praying that my stomach wouldnt make really loud noises.

i PROMISED I WOULD UPDATE YOU GUYS IF I FOUND A SOLUTION, WELL I HAVE FOUND A SOLUTION FOR ME!
READ THIS, IT MIGHT BE A SOLUTION FOR YOU TOO

I HAVE POSTED THIS ON OTHER THREADS BECAUSE I WANT TO GET THE WORD OUT.

Hey guys, I understand your suffering. I went through all of that too!
I used to hate it specially in class.
Believe me I had been suffering of this for years and I have finally found something that works for me:

I went to a Gastroenterologist with suspicion that it might be IBS, he did a Colonoscopy to rule out other problems.
after the procedure, he told me my colon was fine, STRESS is the major trigger, followed by not exercising regularly.

The best thing though:

He gave me Hioscyamine (generic name for Symax)which are godsend. And he told me about Align, which are probiotics you take daily.
These two things have changed my life!!!
I also have been drinking Chamomile teas regularly, they seem to soothe my stomach. and I also take this infusion of Macela tea leafs (I found an on-line store that sells it ***edited by moderator*** web addresses not allowed )

The Hioscyamine basically kind of stops my digestive system for a while, I take it first thing in the morning with breakfast. My stomach is completely quiet for hours. I have been eating Penut butter toast with a chamomile tea for breakfast every day. I also have been praying a lot.

Please, go to your doctor and ask him or her to prescribe you Hioscyamine, they will give you relief. My first prescription has 6 refills but he said to go to him if I needed more. It's been a month since he gave me those and I haven't had a problem since then.

Now, it may be a combination of doing all these things that have helped me get better or just the Hioscyamine along with Align that are doing the job. Give it a try!

Bless you all and hope you find a solution like I did.
