I suffering for 8 months with severe bleeding finally I chose the ThermaChoice Ablation on 9/2009, simple surgery, and everything was fine, I had no bleeding nothing., then six months it started again, I was thinking that it was a period, WOW I was wrong it last 8 weeks, go back to my doctor for her to say the surgery only took to one side (WTH) any I chose to have the Novasure procedure on 8/2010, again everything is fine, I feel good, but then right on Dec 29, 2010 I feel like I am urinating on myself I run to the bathroom to see what BLOOD. Of course this happens right before New Year Eve, I feel terrible the cramps are unbearable, and my doctor is out for the holiday. I get an appointment for 1/11/11 and what happens my insurance lapses. Was able to reschedule my appointment and I just hope that this will get finally get me the hysterectomy I been asking for since 2009. Yes I do have a daily discharge of light bleeding. >;)

So sorry to hear that so many women are still having issues with this procedure. I returned to my doc's office on Tuesday, January 11 for my post op follow up. Doc said everything was good but that we wouldn't know if I'd have a period or not until 12 weeks post surgery. So, now it is the waiting game. I still have some spotting but supposedly that should end in about 2 - 3 more weeks. I can at least use tampons, finally because pads and liners are a nuasance. I am still experiencing some minor cramping and if I stand too long, my lower back begins to hurt. I will attribute this to some weight gain recently but I'll soon know since I have restarted my fitness training and am doing cardio regularly.

Will post update in about 3 weeks to see where I am at that point post surgery symptoms.

;-) I responded 12/29, 3 weeks s/p the ablation. I am now 5 + weeks and still no major changes. I experienced 2 periods already, and noticed the decrease in amount of blood from previous periods before the procedure-having only to wear a regular or light tampon and changing every 8 hours now. I no longer have to get up 2-3 times a night to change my super plus tampon. But I still have the cramping prior to my period and occasionally now every day. Weight gain of 5 pounds, all abdominal with bloating. As for the discharge, I still have it daily, it is better on some days where it looks pink and watery, and other days it is dark brown or bright red with shreds of tissue. So all in all, I really do not see a benefit either. I worry that I may have to have a hysterectomy and being a young 45 year old, I do not want to have that surgery. I was told by my doc to wait a total of 6 months to see if the ablation worked for me due to my fibroid tumors. I find that quite irritating considering the cost and the amount of patience I have to have and considering how active I am with work, my home, granddaughter, and my activities. This really interferes with the quality of my life. I wish I knew more went through this and had good outcomes.

I had the NovaSure (NS) in May 2010 and I have basically STOPPED having a period totally. Very little spotting where no pad is even needed BUT I am have SERIOUS weight gain. That is what made me get on line to look up the side effect to NS!!! I never had a problem with my weight before. I have exercised and I am eating the same...I am just wondering if it is related to the NS.

I am happy with the bleeding issue. I used to have a period every 10-15 days! That is gone but DANG now I am 15-20 lbs HEAVIER!!! :-(

Not sure which is worse...

I had the NovaSure and Tubal Ligation 1/14/11. I have had 3 periods since. They are still a little heavy and I am cramping with extreme low back pain. I am trying to keep optomistic and going to give it a few months, but if no improvement, I will let a lot of people know! The periods are not very long, however. They last 2-4 days. I really hope and pray that it gets better with time! :-)

Hi. I'm 30 years old and I had the NovaSure procedure done in April 2010. (I have 4 kids and I also had my tubes tied in January 2009 with my last kiddo during my C-section). I have always had really bad periods, but after each one of my kids they got worse. Well, after my 4th little bug, I couldn't take it anymore. I had to wear Super Plus Tampons for 5-6 days straight and changed them every 1-2 hours for the first 2 days. The last 2 days of my period would die down a bit, but I would easily go through a box of Super Plus tampons in one period. I got the cramping, crankiness, and the nasty bleeding, so I talked to the doctor and he said to do NovaSure. Honestly, he didn't really tell me about ANY side effects and I knew I was done having kids, so I just jumped into it and did it. I didn't really research it, I went for it.

I was put under for the procedure itself, so I felt no pain. Immediately afterwards, I just felt some cramping. I was given Vicodin (just in case, I was told). Oh, and my hubby was in Basic Training at the time, so I didn't even have the option of sexual intercourse, so I can't help anyone in THAT department, because I didn't have sex for a couple months after my procedure because my hubby was gone! The cramping was pretty nasty for a couple days, but I could function. The bleeding immediately after wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, either. I, too, was told NOT to use tampons for a week, but I think I used a "light days" tampon here and there.

Now, I'm almost a year post-procedure and my period is virtually non-existant. I must say, I don't really know when I'm going to get it like I used to. Sometimes I DO bleed or spot, but it's NOTHING like it used to be. The first few months after the procedure, my cramps were WAY worse than usual. I wouldn't always bleed, but I would get nasty cramps around the time I SHOULD HAVE bled. Now, when I DO bleed, I might use 3 tampons and a couple pads total? It varies each month. I don't like that it's not as predictable, but I like that I don't need Super Plus tampons anymore!! Overall, I would say it was a success! BUT......Now, this is something I'm not sure is attributed to NovaSure, but I'm going to put it on here in case other people experience this........I have been having horrible headaches since last July. I have seen tons of doctors and no one can figure out why. I actually came to this board to see if maybe my headaches could be a side effect from the NovaSure procedure, but no one has really mentioned it, so I'm guessing it's not. BUT, perhaps other people will post about headaches, too, if they see I have mentioned mine?? I don't know. But I have also moved out of state and had a lot of stressful things happen, so they could be due to lots of things. I don't know. I thought I'd mention the daily, horrible headaches.....just in case! And.....because of the headaches, I've been put on all sorts of meds that have made me lose a lot of weight. I don't think the procedure made me lose or gain weight. I think that's all been medication related. And my sex drive hasn't really changed. It hasn't increased or decreased.

I must say, my mom and I are VERY close and she had the same procedure done a month after I did and she experienced different symptoms. She also had her tubes tied, but she did about 8 or 9 years ago. Her periods were probably 10 times WORSE than mine! She would bleed through her tampon, through a pad, and through her clothes! Her periods were extremely heavy and she would literally have to plan on NOT going out of the house on the first few days of her period for fear of bleeding through her clothes!!

She was also put under and she was also given Vicodin afterwards. She had cramping afterwards as well. BUT, her biggest complaint has been a very strong odor. (Oh, I should mention that she is 49 years old, if that makes a difference and she's a mom of 4---her youngest is 9 years old). She said that she barely bleeds at all, but she gets a watery type of discharge and she says it smells really bad. It's to the point that she wants to take a shower or a bath! She asked her doctor about it and he said, "Oh that's normal." Well, she was ticked, because no one told her about that side effect. She also gets leg pain. She has a low thyroid and that causes leg pain, but her doctor also said that the NovaSure procedure can cause leg pain, too. She also wasn't told that ahead of time, either. So, those things frustrate her, but the bleeding is definitely under control for her and that's awesome! She just has to wear pantiliners every once in a while now.

Hopefully some of this info helps! Good luck girls! And I'm sorry for all the ladies who have had really bad experiences with this.

Hi!

I'm still completely happy about the procedure (performed January 2010). If need be, I'd do it all over again! I haven't had a period, and still have the weight off! Novasure was surely the best choice for me!

I am 54 years old.  I had the Novasure procedure done about 3 years ago and I had a tubal about 18 years ago.  I had very light periods with no cramping or bloating during my teens and young adult life.  When I reached my late forties, the pre-menopasal years, my periods became heavy and continued to become heavier year after year with some cramping.  I had the novasure procedure to slow or perhaps even stop my bleeding.  After the procedure I did not have a period or any other side affect for over a year.  Then all of a sudden I had a heavy period with severe cramping.  For the last two years I have had a period about every other month with light bleeding that lasts only a day and occasionally a month of heavy bledding.  But, almost every month I have severe cramping that not only causes pain in my stomach and back but the pain runs down my legs.  The pain is so severe that I have to go to bed.  Nothing over the counter relieves it unless I take enough to make me sleep.  My doctor never told me that this could be a side affect. :(  My doctor did write me a prescription for NERVE pain!  This really concerns me that the procedure could have caused some nerve damage. My co-worker, who uses the same doctor, also had the procedure about three years ago and is experiencing the severe pain in her legs as well.  Because of the severe leg pain, both my co-worker and I would not recommend this procedure to anyone.  Please respond with any info given you from your doctor related to the leg pain.

I am 37 years old, have 1 child and I have been suffering from very heavy, very painfull and very long (7-10 days of heavy bleeding w using tampon and heavy pad  changes every 2 hrs) periods for a while and i couldnt take not being able to function anymore. the cramping and swelling and pain were just unbearable so my obgyn recommended this procedure.

I had the novasure procedure done in October 2010, i also had my tubes tied as well. The day of the procedure i had very bad cramping and uterine spasms but in about 24 hours it all went away. I ended up needing the pain pills for only 2 days when i switched to ibuprofen so the pain was bearable. I had the discharge for about 2 months and i thought it would never end but it does! my first few periods (yes i still get them) were somewhat heavy - not as bad - but more bleeding than i expected. it seems since the procedure, my PMS has gotten progressevly worse. I have very bad body aches, i guess the only way to describe them is bone deep aches that Ibuprofen doesnt even touch. im talking joints, hips, legs, arms. so bad that I cannot sleep for the week before i get my period now. I am much moodier than i used to be and I'm exhausted  but cant sleep during this timeframe..hmmm maybe thats why im moody ;) but once I get my period - (which has regulated to be very light bleeding - one tampon a day with no pad!!!) all the PMS symtoms go away. so I guess i traded one evil for another but, if given the choice, i would do it again and have recommened it to my friends. The 2  side effects I am unhappy about is the weight gain-bout 50lbs- and minor but embarassing bladder control issues (which only seems to happen to a few women after the procedure)...i might have thought twice about doing it if my doc had not kept that info from me when telling me about the "possible" side effects. I am currently looking for a different obgyn who will help me with the bladder control problem as my doc-a man of course - seems to think its all in my head...

Quote:same person here and after actually reading everyone elses posts i have decided that i will never recommend the procedure to anyone else again. the lower extremety pain that i experience is obviously not PMS and the bladder control problems seem to be more frequent among recipients of the procedure. here I thought I was the only one having these issues. I also do have the severe back aches and swelling of my legs and have been taking water pills to help -  i didnt realize this was a common side effect either. funny how when you go to the novasure web site, they list NONE of these issues as sideeffects!!! maybe they should do more research before recommending these kinds of procedures to the public!

It has now been 6 months s/p ablation.  I still have a period, lasting 7 days, but it is very light, and I use only regular tampons changing twice a day for the first 3 days, then either just a pad  or a light tampon.  The cramping and pre period weight gain of 2 pounds still occur, but midol and ibuprofen work well.  I then just have a watery discharge for another week and its done.  I still have the breast tenderness and I still get agitated a week before my period begins, but I am happy that the bleeding has decreased .  The weight gain of 5 pounds I have been very diligent about increasing the difficulty level of my workouts and the time. I still have another 4 to lose... But overall am happy. I don't think it will ever stop the periods, but they are less severe. !
