I used this product just over a week ago and my hair has been falling out by the handfuls. I have coarse curly hair and the box said it could be used for all hair types. I followed the directions! I wish it had advised me to complete a patch test first, then maybe I wouldn't be going bald. I have several large places where I only have nubs on my head. I just went this morning and had a deep protein conditioner put in and had to get a hair cut. Of course my hair is still falling out although the hairdresser said I will survive, and just need time for it all to grow back. My 50th birthday is next week and now Iam not only getting old, but bald too! I called Oglivie (now Helen of Troy) a few days ago and they told me that they couldn't advise me how to treat my hair now and that they were not hair professionals. Gosh, then why do they sell hair products!!!! They said they are not aware of any problems with the produce. They asked me to sent photos of the burn spots as well as photos of my fallen hair. I did and the only response by email I have so far from the claims dept. is "These pics are sure close up…". No phone call from the adjuster introducing himself first or any advise on how to treat the problem. I will keep after them though now that I read these post. Thanks to all of you who posted your comments!!! I don't recomend this product, maybe the formula recently changed, that is for the worst. >;)

This was my first time using the product and it works great! I've had straighteners with an Ammonium Thioglycolate base done in salons and the Ogilvie product got it just as straight as the salon. It was also very easy to use. I didn't comb the product through my hair, instead I finger combed and smoothed it in. I expected it to not get that straight because I didn't use the comb but to my surprise it worked amazingly. I am definately sold on the product.

I also have very curly hair and a lot of it. They are hard to find but yes Ogilvie has a straightener that works great. My husband does mine for me. It's that easy. I found this page while going on line to see if I can buy them online. I found this one at walmart a few months back and grabbed it because I figured I would never see another one there. I was right I look every time I go.

I have used the Ogilvie Hair Straightener for over 7 years.  It is a quality product, and I have never experienced any problems with it.  I am a licenced stylist, and as I read through the other posts where people have experienced problems and I suggest that they have either left the product on too long or did not rinse the lotion out well enough.  If you have had your hair colored or highlighted or permed or any other chemical treatment prior to using a straightener or a perm solution the hair is already compromised, and you need to alter the time it is left on.  When the hair "melts" it is because it is previously damaged from an earlier treatment of some sort or serious damage from flat irons.

As for Ogilvie Straightener, I am delighted to see it back on the market. I cleared the shelf and purchased 6 boxes.  Like any other hair product you need to read the instructions!

would love to know who to contact. I have a spot on top of my head that is bald. I followed directions and did not leave it on as long as the box stated to.

DO NOT use this product!! I have used it for many years and never had a problem until now! I used it the other night and left it on as instructed and 2 days later almost 60% of my hair has fallen out!! I can not find a website to get ahold of them but I will be calling the number tomorrow! I have very fine healthy red hair and now I have small prickles left all over my head in through what hair I have left. I am just praying no more falls out! I was pulling it out by the handfuls after getting out of the shower and brushing my hair.

I use Ogilive Straightener on my daughters hair for 4 years now & it works great. She has very thick & kinky hair & was having a lot of breakage before we used it then afterwards it became very healthy & grew like crazy. We decided to try this other stuff 6 months ago because it was a lot quicker to do but.... it was the biggest mistake we ever made. It was some Brazilian stuff with kreatin which is suppose to be good for your hair. Well it ended up being that you can actually over protein your hair which will cause severe breakage. We found this out from a very good hairdresser. We are back to Oglilvie & her hair is starting to look & feel very healthy again. I will NEVER use anything but Ogilive again.

I used this product yesterday and my hair was still curly. I tried it again today and my hair was acting like it would stay straight when it was wet, but it ended up getting very wavy all the way through. Maybe I did it wrong?

I pray you did not use this product. My daughter used it and it fried her hair and made it fall out. we are still trying to repair the damage.
