on 1/3/13 I had the doctor do multiple punctures into the 3 lumps on the left side low back using just the 1% lidocaine recommended in the article. After about a week I noticed I wasn't getting much sciatica but the main lump continued to be painful and my buttock ached more then usual.
I went in a week later on 1/8/13 and had him repeat the procedure using both lidocaine and cortisone It was a a big improvement and there are now many positions I can be in where I almost don't feel any pain now. But if there is any pressure from a hard surface like the back of a chair, driving or lying on my back it continues to irritate the main lump. I've rarely felt any sciatica since these injections.
The good thing about all these injection procedures is it really drove home that these lumps ARE the cause of all my years (13) of back pain. Even though there are many improvements I've decided I'm going to have them all cut out. I feel getting rid of them will release all the nerves and stop the pain altogether.
sh*t i have like 30 little lumbs like that all around and above my tail bone i have back problems from lots of crashes but idk what these are it feels like thats whats making my back pain
I have the same thing! After I had my daughter I have had consistent pain on my right side on my sciatic. I was just massaging it and felt a lump there. I have had xrays and an MRI which showed nothing. I am in constant pain and NOTHING takes it away. I have no idea what to do.
I am having the same problem now. Can I know how it is feeling now after surgery.

This helped my husband! The lumps are referred to as "floating mice"... may not always be the case but are very common and can cause tremendous pain. These sometimes even have nerves that have grown through them. I suggest you read this article and at least take it to your doctor for his/her opinion.
Hi: I have been having really back pain due to back "mouse". Have you found out about your's in the last years?
You are probably experiencing benign peripheral nerve tumors.

Have you tried using anti inflammatory meds or herbs (that do not make you high) and massaging the area? I personally have low back pain with lumps just like is described here. During periods that it is painful the area does swell. I have had a physical therapist press on the area to make the fluid disperse and the lump does get smaller. She said it was fluid anyway. My doctor said it was "nothing" there and offered pain pills. Instead I use a tens unit because I do not like to take meds that cause a change in consciousness and also disable me from things I like to do such as driving and going to a wine and cheese party once in awhile. You cannot take a pain pill and have a glass of wine. You risk dying in your sleep. Also my career requires me to not have taken mind altering drugs.
did you have your surgery yet and if so how are you doing? I have the same problem with painful lumps in my lower back too. I'm considering surgery but I haven't found the right doctor yet or for that matter a definite diagnosis. I hope you are doing great!! your feed back will be greatly appreciated! thanks. mluteman.
Did you have them cut out? What can you tell me about that. Were they what you thought they were? Can you tell me what that cost roughly? I don't have insurance and have been terefied about the financial burden and my health?
Reading this forum eased my worries some if that is in fact what my lumps are.
Any info would be much appreciated.
I also have these small very painful nodules in my lower back. When palpated, they are very tender and they cause constant lower back pain. From what I have researched, my conlcusion is these are "back mouse" or lumbar fascial fat herniation. I have an appointment with my Derm. next week and I hope she will inject lidocaine in these painful spots. Honestly, it feels like I am in labor, 7cm.
I have been suffering for years on and off with these lumps on my lower back. I just recently started going to the Chiropractor again because I woke up one morning and I could not get out of bed.

It is called a back mouse, massaging the mouse is not good for it, but around the mouse is fine. It also may require surgery or injections. Anyways have read very interesting.
Hi - my cousin just had an MRI and we have been doing research on this and I do believe she has "back mouse". Can you tell me what the injections you are going to be receiving and what kind of doctor should she be seeing? Thanks for any info.
Hi, I have been dealing with this pain in my back along with the lumps for over 10 years, I am 23 now. As a child, they did xray and ultrasound to see what it was and my ped just said it was fatty deposits. So glad I have seen this thread, I have two kids with one on the the way and the pain is getting much worse. Hoping after I give birth I can find a treatment/solution to this long drawn out battle. Thanks again!
