Alright...
I also work in the medical field. (Although I am not the original professional listed above.) But to everyone who says it's okay to go into the ER for this--you are the reason the medical field is going down. I am a paramedic. (Not a tech...not a medic in training, a actual paramedic who works on an ambulance.) I take people to the ER every day.
The ER is for EMERGENCIES! As in life-or-death situations. Car accidents, when you can't breath, when you having a deadly allergic reaction, when your asthma is acting up and your inhaler isn't working. Things that are legit emergencies. not "my elbow feels funny" or "I can't sleep" or ingrown hairs.
Things like that--take to your damn primary care physician. You dont need to go taking up a bed in the ER for a damn ingrown hair. See your doctor in the morning about it. If you dont have a doctor go to a clinic. Not an ER.
You can call it “job security” or “the right to go because we pay taxes” all you want, but, trust me, there are enough people having myocardial infarctions and strokes that the ER does not need the “Security.” And you may think taxes cover everything, but the amount of money going INTO the healthcare system versus the money being spent in ERs is vastly disproportional. So much money is wasted on the “emergency” of “I have a headache.”
That said, I’m probably not going to reply to this thread again. Found it in a random search and don’t intend on following it. But the igornance of everyone to what an ER is really for astounds me…
Using proper spelling, grammar and punctuation would also be of valuable assistance.
Thank you.
