Here's the deal - if you go to the emergency room because you have a swelling or an ingrown in your public region - you will wait and incredibly long time - because the ER is for life threatening emergencies. You are much better off going to a Wellness clinic at a pharmacy, visiting your regular doctor, or going to a smaller urgent care facility. Furthermore, ER service is acute medical care - designed to make sure that you don't croak - so you aren't going to get any special attention to look at your ingrown. Go to a medical facility that's better suited to this kind of problem and let them refer you to the ER if it's really a crisis.

I had something similar, it is so bad I wanted to go the ER but didnt want anyone down there ya'know. what did finally help was treating it as a boil, research treatment for boils as they can be caused by ingrown hair. I soaked in warm water with epsom salts and also had to get some numbing cream similar to boil-ease. i took a while for it to go away, i kept a gauze over it and finally after maybe a week it was almost all better.

You may want to see a medical professional on this one. I have had several staff infections that were exactly like this. It will involve antibiotics generally. But overall a hot compress helps the most! The Antibiotics are important. If the infection spreads enough it can be very dangerous. For preventative medicine it may be a good idea to exfoliate and use an product like tendskin to prevent the ingrown hairs completely.

Alright...

I also work in the medical field. (Although I am not the original professional listed above.) But to everyone who says it's okay to go into the ER for this--you are the reason the medical field is going down.  I am a paramedic. (Not a tech...not a medic in training, a actual paramedic who works on an ambulance.) I take people to the ER every day.

The ER is for EMERGENCIES! As in life-or-death situations. Car accidents, when you can't breath, when you having a deadly allergic reaction, when your asthma is acting up and your inhaler isn't working. Things that are legit emergencies. not "my elbow feels funny" or "I can't sleep" or ingrown hairs.

Things like that--take to your damn primary care physician. You dont need to go taking up a bed in the ER for a damn ingrown hair. See your doctor in the morning about it. If you dont have a doctor go to a clinic. Not an ER.

You can call it “job security” or “the right to go because we pay taxes” all you want, but, trust me, there are enough people having myocardial infarctions and strokes that the ER does not need the “Security.” And you may think taxes cover everything, but the amount of money going INTO the healthcare system versus the money being spent in ERs is vastly disproportional. So much money is wasted on the “emergency” of “I have a headache.”

That said, I’m probably not going to reply to this thread again. Found it in a random search and don’t intend on following it. But the igornance of everyone to what an ER is really for astounds me…

Excuse me "medical professionals"... My first ever ingrown hair.. which to answer your question, to the girl who posted this in the first place and people are not even answering her.. just arguing.. it IS an ingrown hair. Something under the skin, caused from not shaving right.. SOMETIMES they go away on their own, sometimes big & sometimes small. HOWEVER, on my first ever ingrown hair down there.... It was very big & VERY painful, where my thigh meets my pelvic bone, it was SO bad, and hurt to even touch it, one day it popped on its own, when I moved my skin upward to look at it. I was afraid at first and didn't know what it was, and it was blood, pus, & green coming out of it. I have a scar from it now, it was that big. If it DOES get that painful and THAT big, than YES, you need to go to the doctor. Whether these nurses wanna deal with you or not. I pulled out a 5 INCH HAIR from it after everything was done. When I went to the ER afraid I was bitten by a spider or something, the doctor told me after I ever said it was stupid to come here after finding out what it was... Him & the nurses said, it doesn't matter what it is, it was infected. Now these "nurses" on here are correct ... If it's not too painful & wait a few days & see if it pops on its own, cause most of the time it does & no you shouldn't worry and run right to the ER. But if it is painful & big to not walk or wear underwear and its not popping on its own, honey you need to see a doctor. One person was absolutely correct .... Doctors and nurses are not like how they use to be. It's all about a better paycheck and where you are socially... is the reason people become nurses and doctors now a days... Instead of actually the main reason you should want to go into that profession... To help people and want to make people better regardless of the reason or age or if they have insurance or not. Did you not see JohnQ? You're probably just like those selffish nurses that could of helped save someones life, but choose to do the least tests because of money or insurance. You are freaking stupid!! You still get paid to sit on your ass, doing nothing. Patients are in the ER an AVERAGE 4 or more hours. You know how many hours of that is waiting on you doctors and nurses standing around gossiping talking doing NOTHING... 3 hours!! Learn how to do your job RIGHT! with compassion no matter what. To WANT to help people. Not just there for the damn paycheck you lowlife!

i get them a lot from shaving an if its swollen i apply tiger balm to it to help relive the swelling and then i use tweezers to slightly open the skin an pull the hair out, the tiger balm reduces the swelling so your able to see the hair better an it will also tell you if you have an infection or not by either stinging an feeling slightly painful at first for an infection or just being slightly chilly an a slight numb feeling but it gets a lot better a day or two later

Can you re-write this in proper English please - so that it can be understood!?
Using proper spelling, grammar and punctuation would also be of valuable assistance.

Thank you.

Well don't go bashing someone's grammar just because you're the id**t that thinks an ingrown hair needs to be rushed to the ER. It could've been easily a typo.. Which does happens once in awhile.

It's spelled 'probably' LOL not 'probally' so you're one to talk about grammar! Haha. And, people going to the emergency room for something ridiculous like an ingrown hair is not considered job security. It's just a bunch of idiots crowding the ER. You were probably given the wrong meds on purpose because you seem like such a tool. Lastly, who are you to talk about nurses making mistakes that are "uncalled" for.. Their job is very demanding & takes a lot of knowledge along with hard work. So don't bash the people that save lives!!
