Pregnancy test taken before period due says negative but is

My period is due in 2 days although it is often irregular and I took a pregnancy test today which came up negative, although I have been feeling strange and I am usually in good health.
My vagina is very sensitive during sex, my breasts are harder and sore, I have terrible mood swings, I feel bloated, have increased appetite and wake up early in hunger, I fainted two days ago, I get twinges in my abdomen, (particularly on one side), I feel sleepy more often, I find that I produce more clear discharge than usual, and I feel warmer at night than usual.
Is it possible to be pregnant and it not show up on the pregnancy test? I am at day 29 and my period usually occurs at day 31 but is often a few days late. Pregnancy is the only thing I can think of o explain these sudden sypmtoms because I am usually in good health.

Since this Sunday I have had tingly breasts and feeling crampy. My next period is due 9/27. I took a EPT Yesterday and a regular test and they both were negative. Was it too early? The box said it can detect the hormone 4 days before a missed period.

Hello Hello
I took two different pregnancy tests and they both came up positive. The first one I took was on Monday and the next one I took was on Tuesday of this week. Even though they both came up positive, just today, I think that I have started my period because I am having cramps and light bleeding... Is this normal?
Hello ladies I am in the same situation. My last period was 8/30/09. Per the ovulation calendar I had intercourse on 9/8, and 9/10, my ovulation day, 9/13. I have had tingly breasts and feeling crampy. My next period is due 9/27. Which i misssed. I took a test yesterday and today, i bought it from the dollar store. they both were negative. Was it too early? The box said it can detect the hormone 4 days before a missed period. I'm trying not to be stressed. I want a baby so bad. please give me some can of info.
I'm literally in the same boat--almost the same dates. I am as regular as they come, 28 days exactly, with all the ovulation signs at 14 days (cervical mucus condition, etc). I had my non-hormonal IUD removed Aug. 26, had my period arrive right on schedule on September 3, 2009. Had normal 5 day period as usual.I've been charting since April 2009 so I would know my schedule. Even so, I began taking ovulation tests with a 20 pack the day after my period stopped--really want a June baby! I had a couple times where it seemed like the second line was as dark as the first, but no smoking gun. Still, I had intercourse through my fertile period on Sept. 13, Sept. 15, Sept. 16, and Sept. 17 regardless if the sticks showed LH or not. I was scheduled to ovulate on Sept. 16 but went one day after. Unfortunately, could not have intercourse after Friday, Sept. 18th because I came down with a yeast infection. I don't get these often (maybe 3 times in my entire life) but figured it was due to all the sexual activity. But I've read that some women get UTIs and yeast infections when they conceive (supposedly it can throw things out of whack). On Sept. 21 I had my annual physical scheduled with my PCP. The nurses ran an urine pregnancy test which was predictably negative. I was still having yeast issues, and my doctor told me how to safely treat in case I was pregnant. I also in the meantime had broken out with a rash on the left side of my face. I assumed this was from a waxing appointment though. On Thursday, Sept. 24 I had sore breasts, a few waves of nausea. On Friday, Sept. 25, my husband gave me a radish he had picked up at the farmer's market, and I became super, super nauseous and got heartburn. I was having a little bit of dizzy spells that would come and go. My breasts were so sore I had problems falling asleep on Thursday and Friday. This not a normal PMS symptom for me.The breasts feel tender when I push on them by the end of the weekend, but not as bad as before. I feel bloated and tired, but I suffer from clinical depression, so that's not uncommon that I feel lethargic (unfortunately).Still, the other symptoms I couldn't explain got my hopes up. I took pregnancy tests on Friday, Sept. 24th & 25th (thinking if I was having possible pregnancy symptoms it could be time for a HPT). All were negative. Then I tried the 26th. Still negative. Found out those tests weren't really sensitive for an early result so got sensitive tests and took again the 27th. Still negative. Skipped the 28th because I figured it was just too early. Today, the 29th I took a super sensitive test (I should get my period Oct. 1) and I'm still negative.Per the box, 90% of women have an accurate score at this point, so I am giving up hope for this cycle. Even though this was my first cycle, I'm just so upset. I come from a long line of women who had unplanned pregnancies and shotgun weddings. My great grandmother at 18, her daughter at 17, my mother at 21 with my dad (although she became so stressed she miscarried--she conceived me shortly after stopping birth control though at 24), my aunt at 22. My father's mother became pregnant on her honeymoon. I can't help but ask what is wrong with me. Every female in my family has gotten pregnant on the first go. Is it because I waited until I was almost 29 (my birthday's Saturday)? The logical rational part of my brain says its too early to feel so sad. I haven't even missed my period yet and that will be a big sign if it doesn't come on time. But seeing all these people who take the tests over and over (even weeks after missing) and still getting a negative is freaking me out. Right now, after all these negatives, I'm starting to feel its just easier to give up hope for this cycle. I realize its stupid, but I really wanted to get pregnant this cycle very badly (for a whole lot of reasons). I'm plagued by "what ifs" like if this is the first of a slew where I don't get pregnant, or if women in my family can only get pregnant when they are super young and I just don't know it, or if my husband just hadn't felt like it on the 14th caused the problem. Seriously wigging out.
Does anyone ever update their comments? Status, i.e. were you indeed pregnant after all? Did u ultimately conceive if you weren't successful when you posted?
With Home Pregnancy Tests: Timing Is Everything; Nearly 80% of Ob/Gyns Surveyed Express Concern About Accuracy of Early Testing
LOS ANGELES, May 9 /PRNewswire/ -- For women waiting to find out if they
are pregnant, a few days can feel like an eternity -- so it can be tempting to
take a home pregnancy test as soon as possible, especially now that some tests
claim to give accurate results up to three or four days before a woman expects
her period.
Not so fast, say an overwhelming majority of obstetricians and
gynecologists in a survey conducted by an independent research firm and
commissioned by Pfizer Consumer Healthcare this week at the American College
of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Meeting. Nearly four out of five doctors
(79%) polled at the meeting prefer that women not use a home pregnancy test up
to four days before their expected menstrual period because clinical testing
shows almost half of pregnant women (48%) will get a "false negative" response
four days before their period is due.
Home pregnancy tests work by measuring the amount of human chorionic
gonadotropin (hCG) in a woman's urine, a hormone that is produced by pregnant
women. hCG levels begin to appear and increase daily once a fertilized egg
implants in a woman's uterus, which on average can range from 6 to 12 days
after ovulation. Because of this natural variability, the day a woman's hCG
levels are detectable by home pregnancy tests varies as well.
A "false negative" test result typically occurs when a pregnant woman
tests too soon and does not yet have enough hCG in her system, so while the
test reads negative, she is in fact pregnant.
Of the ob/gyns surveyed, almost 90 percent believe the best time for a
woman to take a home pregnancy test is on the first day of her actual missed
period or any day thereafter, when hCG levels are more likely to be high
enough to be detected.
"Home pregnancy tests are effective and accurate when used correctly, but
it is important that women wait to take them until their chances of getting an
accurate reading are very high -- this means beginning the day a woman misses
her period or later," says Shari Brasner, MD, an ob/gyn in private practice in
New York, affiliated with Mt. Sinai Hospital*. "Taking a test too early can
result in a false negative response for almost 50 percent of pregnant women,
which could lead them to resume behaviors that might unknowingly put their
unborn babies at risk."
In fact, 84 percent of ob/gyns surveyed said there could potentially be
health risks associated with a pregnant woman receiving a "false negative"
result on a home pregnancy test, which may include delaying proper prenatal
care, taking certain prescription drugs, drinking alcohol, smoking and
strenuous activities.
Other factors that could contribute to an inaccurate reading on a home
pregnancy test include not properly following instructions and miscalculating
the day of an expected period, which is common because 51 percent of ob/gyns
say fewer than half of their patients properly track their cycles, which
naturally vary.
With most at-home pregnancy tests, to get an accurate reading, the
absorbent tip of the test stick should be pointed downward and placed in the
urine stream for five seconds, and then the stick should be placed on a flat
surface to wait for the results to appear. Result times vary from test to
test, but most results can be read within three minutes.
"Until they know for sure whether or not they are pregnant, women should
eat healthy, get plenty of sleep and abstain from any behaviors that could
compromise their health or the health of an unborn baby," adds Dr. Brasner.
"And finally, if after testing negative a woman's period does not start, she
should test again a week later and contact her physician."
One test that clearly advises testing on or after a missed period is
e.p.t, the leader in the home pregnancy test category. e.p.t(R) pregnancy
test has been proven to be 99 percent accurate in laboratory tests at
detecting typical hCG hormone levels (which vary by person). Package
directions advise that the test be used on or after the day of a woman's
missed period.
e.p.t is manufactured and marketed by Pfizer Consumer Healthcare. Pfizer
Inc discovers, develops, manufactures, and markets leading prescription
medicines, for humans and animals, and many of the world's best-known,
over-the-counter brands.
A total of 255 self-administered questionnaires were completed by a sample
of attendees at the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Annual
Meeting on May 6 and 7, 2002. The survey was conducted for Pfizer by Beta
Research. The margin of error for the study is +/- 5.6 percentage points.

During the 2 months we were trying to conceive our son, I calculated out the earliest date I could test and was very disappointed both times when my test read negative for pregnancy -- however that second month I actually WAS PREGNANT. The fact is that not everyone starts producing the high levels of the hormone needed for detection at the same time. According to clinical tests, the First Response Early Result Pregnancy Test detected pregnancy in 69% of women 4 days before their expected period -- that means I was in the 31% of women for whom the test did NOT work that early. It also detected pregnancy in 83% of women 3 days before their expected period, and in 93% of women 1 and 2 days before their expected period.
My cycle varies from 26 - 32 days and I tested today (day 26) with a first response test but it was negative. I think that my nipples have the bumps on them and my cervix is very high. The wait is killing me.
Like many of you I have noticed that no1 answers any questions here.
First off I want to say perhaps we should stop waisting money on HPT and just wait till the day of our periods or any time there after.
Because in the end we just know that with our luck we will get a negative.
I too am guilty of testing early.
I had a misscarriage in April of this year. I was 12 weeks pregnant. Baby stopped growing at 9.
It was the most difficult thing hubby and I had to go through.
Finally I feel emmotionally ready again and the waitting is driving me nuts!
I've tested twice this month and still negative.
I bought the EPT test pack of 3 so I have one more to go.
My period is due Thursday.
The last time I got pregnant I tested the day of my period.
I got a faint positive. So I went to the doctors to take another test to confirm.
So.... I will not take a test till then...
I'll let you all know how that goes...
Good luck to you all!
Ok, well here is my story. My husband and I have been trying for a year and three months. We first started at a fertility clinic because I was told that I didn't ovulate. I was put on Clomid for 6 months and told to track my ovulation time and have intercourse every other day up until my surge and then every day after that. Out of the six months, we had no luck. From then the Dr. recommended that we do an IUI. The first two IUI's were done using clomid. The 3rd, 4th, & 5th were using injectibles. (I had to stick myself with 3 different meds) it was a mess. Out of those three...NOTHING. We did our last IUI using the same thing, 3 injectibles and switched from Clomid to another drug to induce ovulation. With that I got a BFP 3 days before AF. Called the office and they scheduled me to come in for blood work. Much to my surprise BFN. The said that I possibly had an ectopic pregnancy. I was crushed and couldn't take anymore. So I took off course for about two months. I went to another Dr. and he did a thorough check on my. Found out that my uterus was tilted and 1 Fallopian tube was blocked, the other was partially blocked, also that I had a tumor on my uterus. How interesting. After all that I had gone through it was pretty much in vain. I was crushed yet again. So I headed in to get major surgery done. He re-hung my uterus, removed the tumor and scar tissue and blew open both of my tubes. My hubby and I are 5 months in to trying again, my lining looks good, hormone levels great. Timing perfect, still nothing each month. I feel so exhausted. This month we followed our regular routine. Last cycle was 11/12/09, I ovulated on 11/27/09, I have been extremely tired, eating so much that everyone is commenting on my appetite. My breasts are somewhat sore (could be in my head) had cramping on my right side for about 8 hours straight. Been very gassy and emotional (although I happen to be an emotional person) had back pains about two days ago that lasted a full day and a half. My stomach still feels weird, can't really describe the feeling, but no nausea. I have been having some blackout spells, but luckily I was sitting down each time. Took test today 12/8/09 got a BFN, my cycle is due on 12/12/09. I am feeling discouraged, but shouldn't be because I am praying that God's will be done. I will keep you posted on any results. Baby dust to all of you. I will be praying for you all as well.
When I found Out I was pregnant I tested 1 week after my period was due with a dollar tree test & sure enough all 3 were positive. Strangely enough a friend had a dream I was pregnant and told me to test, little did I know I ACTUALLY WAS! My first pregnancy symptom was a crazy craving for PICKLES.
Hello Girls
I too am going through the same sitch when it comes to testing to darn early.. beacuse I just cant wait! It is extremly hard to wait it out when you have been trying for a month. With my son.. I tried conceveing for not even a month.. took a test before my period was due.. I think like 2 days before or so.. and it said positive.. I couldnt believe it so I ran out and got four more tests.. all were possitive.. so I guess whats so frustrating this time.. is the idea what it all happened so quicky and easily the first time.. meanwhile this time.. I have litterly bought over 4 tests.. all negitive.. Bear in mind though that my period isn't due for another 3 days.. I dunno.. Its so hard to keep hope.. and Im only on month number one..
I did read though online that First Response is the best test to get.. Accuricy wise.. But I just wanted to come on and say that Keep your hopes up ladies..
Also if anyone is struguling with knowing when your ovulation and the best times to get pregnant.. there are alot of great books and online sites out there..
BEST OF LUCK LADIES... I will update this and let you know if we become pregant!!
:-D
My Husband and I have been trying for our second child for 6 months. I had a tumor and some cysts removed from my left ovary about a year and a half ago. ( that was the second surgery I had of that kind) I feel crampy this month and my breasts are a little soar. Today I was super gassy and slightly sick to my stomach. I took a pregnancy test and it was negative but my period is not due till the 8th. I have been really tired and went to sleep at ten on New Year's Eve. I am praying that we are pregnant or I have to go see my OBGYN next month to talk about any issues I might have. I have been feeling like my period is going to start and nothing happens. I will keep you all posted! ;-)
