Okay so I got proactiv about 3 days ago? And have been using it and I noticed results in 1 day! BUT this morning I washed my face with proactiv and around my mouth it was white and then on the outside it was red, I washed my skin again tonight thinking maybe it wasn't it and now my mouth and around it are burning!!!!!! I'm going to put some oil free lotion on to smooth it...but I'm really upset because I thought proactiv was working for me and all the other brand just don't work! Any brand suggestions?
Yeah, same! My face got red and itchy when I used proactive. I usually use clearasil. But I found some proactive in my cupboard, so I used it. My redness went down a bit, now. I'm also not as itchy, now. But my face still hurts.
This happened to me last year twice, I was using proactiv every second day and all was well and one day i woke up extremely swollen and bright red with super dry skin. I had no clue what happened, and after 2 days of waiting it off nothing changed I had went to the doctors and she told me to ice my face, and gave my prednisone which I had to take 8 every morning for 5 days. I had no idea that it was proactiv, so I stopped using stuff on my face for awhile. Eventually, the swelling went down and the redness which took about 6 days. But my skin was dry for weeks. About 2 months later my skin got really bad so I decided to pull out my proactiv stuff(SUCH A BAD IDEA) next morning I was swelled up and red. At least now I knew what I was allergic to so again back at it with icing my face prednisone and another 6 stressful days at home, but this time around I found a cream that helped my face with the redness and dryness and the heat, SkinFix in the purple bottle helps a lot.
I have been using proactive for almost a year now, and a few days ago, I started to break out all over and now my face is red, and it has a burning sensation. This has never happened to me before, What do I do?!
By your first sentence you already show resentment to your ex and his gf making this product the butt of your anger. My girlfriend is having the same reaction but we know its chemicals getting rid of acne that is going to cause some redness swelling and burning. It sucks but for clear skin using a product to remove tissue isnt going to be pain free.
And i bet shes better in bed.

I used proactiv for many years.... over 5. I never had a problem and never heard of any problems. Then all of a sudden, my eyes started swelling up randomly. Then they would be itchy and peel. THey would eventually get better and then worse again. At least once my lips swelled up. I didn't know what it was but my wedding was coming up and I had to do something bc I didn't want swollen eyes the day of and it was happening more increasingly. I went to a dermatologist who did a strip test and I was allergic to benzoyl peroxide... which I had never been allergic to in my life... I was 28 at the time the swelling began. I later learned that aluminum creates allergies. In lab rats they inject aluminum with desired allergen to CREATE allergies in the lab animas so they can test allergy meds on them. I check Proactiv and it has aluminum in it plus benzoyl peroxide. my dr and I both fully believe proactiv created the allergy in my body. I called proactiv and did a full extensive interview with them to note everything. They don't tell you this is possible and it seems it's common. They should have a warning about it on the bottle... let people know this can happen bc I kept using it not knowing that was causing the allergy and I was reacting worse and worse. Also my eyes were swelling up, and the proactiv wasn't being put on my eyes so I just didn't think to link it to the proactiv esp since I had used it for so many years prior with no issue. I don't think these type of treatments are safe or meant to be used daily for the long term.
stop using it. you are allergic. you are probably allergic to benzoyl peroxide. go to a dermatologist and get a strip test on your back for allergies.
this is not true. you should not be swelling and itchy and red from it. t hat's an allergic reaction and the product should be stopped or it will only get worse. your girlfriend should go to a dermatologist to get allergy testing done.. they do a strip test on the back. she is probably allergic to the benzoyl peroxide in the proactive.
I don't see any resentment to her ex and his gf at all. but I do see you sounding like a douche. and your gf needs to stop using things she's allergic to. redness swelling and burning is NOT supposed to happen with proactiv. get a clue dude.
How about an ER visit? My daughter used it off and on for 2 months. During that time she would have a one eye flare up, then eventually both closed shut. Went to the doctor and they prescribed many things, mostly Benadryl at night, Zyrtec and cortisoze cream. These worked within 2 days. She hadnt used it for a week and then again. This time it was a call from the school, and EpiPen, 911 and the ER. Her throat was closing before our eyes! All is well now but we are keeping a close eye even though she is on prednizone and several others meds.
She was apparently building antibodies to it and then enough was enough! Very scary!

This make sense. My daughter is known to be allergic to sulfa based antibiotics. She broke out in hives when she was a toddler after using a sulfa antibiotic. She used this one day and her face became red, puffy, itchy and bumpy.
I am currently experiencing a very mild condition that I believe was caused by using proactive. I first bought the product 8 or so months ago and used it religiously for 5 months. As with many others, I thought nothing of the tight feeling in my skin, the slight itching was drying, which I thought was good because I have somewhat oily skin anyways.... long story short, my face developed an extreme sensitivity to sunlight and temperature changes make my skin bright red and hot to the touch which usually lasts for three to four hours at a time. I am very sorry to hear how drastically you've been affected by this junk product, and I was curious about any advice you've received regarding managing your skin. I'm concerned my problems are only going to get worse, like yours did. Thoughts?
I've used proactiv for years and never had any issues but that last couple of times I've woken up with my eyes almost swollen shut.
Oh my God same thing happened to me 2 days in and I have a patch of white liquid filled bumps above my top lip I'm the crevice between nose and lip then some on my chin and my skin feels so sensitive. Never again. I heard some things like this can happen and to keep using it but why would we continue to use it if that's what its doing?
