I have been taking benadryl and it helped take away the redness. I am very disapointed, i will never use it again!
I dont understand how they can still sell this after this has happened to many people!!
So ,who ever wants to try proactive , be careful! i dont want this to happen to anyone else!
My skin is better off without it!!
P.S. I do have somewhat sensitive skin.
Hi- I had a similar experience. I used proactiv with very good results for about 3-4 years. I started getting little red marks that looked like acne scars all over my jaw line. So I stopped using it. Later- I found out that my acne was food allergy related. First I eliminated gluten. My skin cleared up right away. The following year I was having some stress and living in a very polluted city. I started to break out very badly. I tried the proactiv again just occasionally but again had an allergy to it- little red marks and also the blisters but not as many as some of the people on here have experienced. I recently found out that not only am I allergic to gluten but also dairy. These are two of the most common allergies and dairy is the most common leading to acne. Its not easy to give up- but if you are an acne sufferer like me, nothing is worth having a break out. I also checked out safecosmetics.org. Many of the products we use- especially for acne- have things in them that cause skin sensitivities and allergies. Proactiv is one of these. I've completely stopped using proactiv. I am using a pure handmade goats milk soap that is helping my skin to heal. I also use benzegel when I break out. It is the same medical ingredient that is in proactiv but it does not have any other ingredients like parfum and oil- plus it is SO much cheaper and you can buy it at the drug store. This would not be good to use though if you are allergic to benzyol peroxide- the main ingredient. I hope this helps. For me this has been trial and error. I am now staying away from chemical products as I now know they can lead to more skin problems and allergies. I am trying to go natural. safecosmetics.org is a place where you can check what is in your products.
I'm a 27 year old female, used proactiv for about 5 months with no reaction, however i did notice a little burning and some itching, but it wasn't all the time. My skin was not that bad, so I only used the products about 1-2 a week. On Friday, I used the cleanser and the lotion, and went to work like normal. By the end of the day, my face was very red and felt hot. So, that night, by 8pm my face was totally swollen and both eyes were also swollen. I had had a reaction 2 times before, in the previous two weeks, with one eye being swollen 4-5 days apart, but it went away in 1 day. At the time, I thought it was a food allergy.
I did some research here on the internet, and found many, many posts of people having reactions to this product. I called proactiv and complained, so they are refunding my money and they did say it sounded like an allergic reaction. The "Allergy Specialist" was a very rude guy who didn't seem to care about me at all, and did not have any advice for me, which is what I was hoping for.
So, after 2 days of swelling, my whole face is now peeling and it looks like I have a chemical burn. I honestly think there should be a class action suit against them, because just refunding my $66 is not going to fix what this product has done to my face.
It annoyed me so much because on the commercial they emphasized how it was safe for sensitive skin. Yeah, not really@ It was totally misleading.
