THIS IS A STORY ABOUT ME AND MY RASH: My rash started out two years ago when I would get upset or stressed. It happened on my neck and jaw only at first. Then I noticed if i used anything with harsh chemicals, ( ie. benzol peroxide, hydroquinonin, Retin-A, or anything like Lumigon for lash growth) I would develop a red and highly itchy rash underneath my lower lashes and tops of eyelids. So I stopped using anything that had chemicals or perfumes to wash or treat my skin. But it has been consistent on my eyes for almost 4 months. Grrrr!!!! I am drinking alkaline water and am on a cleanse to try to see if that works. The doctors  prescribed celestemine. It works temporarily, but I think its a steroid and therefore i would just be perpetuating the problem by taking it. I am a make-up artist by trade and need help solving this frustrating mystery. How many of these other cases have used lumigon or eyelash growth enhancing products??? Any advise would be helpful.

I am in my early 40's and developed this eye rash in July and still have it now (November). It started to go away until I went to a pumpkin farm and walked through corn fields.  It flared up again and I am very frustrated.  I've tried steroid creams, mild face wash, expensive face creams and nothing works.  Seems I'm fine when I first wake up in the morning, but as soon as I get ready in the bathroom my eyes are red (upper and lower lids).  I tried washing with the baby soap the person mentioned who used Huggies.  It WORKED!  Immediately my eyes are not rashy or red.  I did put some Vaseline on it for moisture since it was dry.  I happened to use the Target brand baby hair and body wash.

I've been having that itchy rash too.  It was around my eyes and extended to my eyebrows.  I used a medicated cream which worked at the beginning but the rash appeared again.  I have used different type of creams such as benadryl, antibiotics and I even tried vinegar! And none of it worked.  I discontinue some foods thinking it was an allergy and it didn't work.  After reading all what you guys wrote here I started to think what could caused that... maybe the stress! I was under a lot of stress so I decided to take things more easily and not being that stressful in addition I started to use oatmeal! Yes, oatmeal I put some on a coffee grounder and mix it with water making a paste.  I used it as a mask around the eyes for around 20 min. several times a day.  In the first two days I notice a difference in the texture of the skin around the eyes, it didn't itch that much I used it along with Visine Allergy eye drops and Avenno cream to moisture that area.  After a week using it the wrinkles around my eyes that were caused by the rash disappeared.  I've been using it for two weeks now and my left eye almost don't have the rash, the right eye which was the worst one is healing slowly and it don't itch.  I don't know if it will come back I HOPE IT DON'T. But at least it has worked like nothing before.  I wanted to share this with you because I know the frustration all of you are having right now.  Hope this can help!

I had the same condition for years.  Many of medicines given to me by my doctors and the dermatologists had harsh side effects and made me more ill and depressed.  Some medicines worked temporarily and other not at all.  I spent lots and lots of money trying to figure this out.  On my quest I visited a THYROID specialist. He told me that many skin conditions are thyroid related.  Once he put me on thyroid medicine and balanced out my hormone levels the rash as well as the depression went away.  Believe me I know how much you are all suffering, so  please give this a try and let me know if it works for any of you.  <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Hello I am Ritz Kay and I am a nursing student at Mt. Sac in California. I recently ran into your post because I was trying to find some help for my younger sister who also had a red rash on her eyelids and below her brows. She has also tried corticosteroids thinking it was just eczema. Long story short the corticosteroids just made it worse, and in two weeks it began to travel onto her cheek bones.
I was sad that this was happening to her as she grew more irritated and frustrated with her skin condition. I did some poking around and gave her some suggestions to try, which to our surprise did work!
You'll need five things 1)some tear free Johnson & Johnson's baby shampoo. 2)100% Natural witch hazel astringent (toner) 3) cotton rounds (I suggest the flat cotton pads because cotton balls do not cover a large surface evenly) 4)Aloe Vera gel (luckily we have a plant growing in the backyard. If you don't have one you can purcahse one at a local plant nursery. The lager and older the aloe vera plant the better, as you'll have more gel with each stem). 5)yu-be skin cream it's a natural glycerine cream it's medicated but not formualted with any steroids or paraffins etc. It's a natural moisturizing cream that my sister and I have been using for years. It's made in Japan.  ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed***
The skin care routine that helped my sisters eyes:
1) wash eyes and face with Johnson & johnson's baby shampoo use cold water. Cool water will help soothe hot inflamed eyes.
2) use witch hazel toner rub eyes and face gently. This will sting a bit as there is some alcohol in the toner.
3) apply aloe Vera gel onto entire face concentrating on eyes and more irritated areas. Let the gel dry on your eyes and face. you can also eat the left over gel if it's not contaminated.
4) apply witch hazel toner again. To wipe off dried aloe Vera gel.
5) apply a dime size amount of yu-be skin cream.

Repeat this every night until your eyes heal and the rashes subsides. My sister felt an immediate difference and saw the rash die down by the next morning. She repeated this every day before bed for a week and her eyes were back to normal again. Hope this helps you.

I am not a professional dermatologist just a nursin student hoping to become a nurse practitioner one day.

Fact about the heal properties of aloe vera:
it is a plant that has anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial properties. As well as a natural cooling, soothing, and moisturizing effect.

How to de-gel an aloe Vera stem:
cut one or two stems. One if the plant is quite large. Wash with water avoiding the open part from cuting. Use a chopping board and a medium size knife. Cut the thorny edges off first. Make the cut as slim a possible so you'll have the bulk of the stem to de-gel. Then fillet the top portion off. Opening the stem in two equal lower and upper halves. Revealing the gel. Taking a teaspoon scrape the gel out into a bowl. You should inculde all the chuncks. Stick into your freezer for a minute or two. To make it more cool. You shouldn't leave it longer then 5 minutes in the freezer as it will freeze quickly. You still want the consistency to be tacky.
Take your clean finger tips and apply on a newly washed and toned face.

Follow the rest of the routine. I hope this helps you. I don't know excatly what it's like to suffer from this nor do I know the cause. My sister had it for a month it came out of no where. She tried many things within that month because she was dessperate to have it be gone. She didn't tell me about it until it got pretty bad looking. We don't live together so I didn't know. After I suggested this routine her eyes looked as if nothing ever bothered them. I read your eye condition is going on for a year now, and I sincerely hope this post helps you as much as it did my sister.

I did not read through all of the posts but it appears you are all seaking the same info.  I forget the name, just found out I have it.  My doctor said you need to go on antibiotics for 3-4 months.  They do not know the cause and creams will not work.  Fingers crossed these antibiotics are not too epensive! :)

I know this sounds ridiculous but I have had the same rash around my eyes, and I think I have narrowed it down to my colgate whitening toothpaste. Ever time I start using it, in about a week I have a problem with my eyes and the only thing I have in common is the starting and stoping of the toothpaste. The only thing, before I thought of the toothpaste, was the steriod cream from the dermotologist that would even begin to clear it up. I also thought it might be stress related. I was a regular user of crest and thats what i'm going back to.....

I have the same thing. My doctor thought it was my blood pressure meds but was not. I am now thinking I am allergic to shellfish. Not sure but going to try to stay away from it and see what happens. I am guessing nothing.

I am 54 and I need some kind of cream so that my eyes don't look older than they are. Please help...it looks like I have red eyeshadow on.

I thought it was the toothpaste but it isn't. Dermo said its a dermatitis, that narrows it down. Ha Ha  I'm on HCTZ and was told to stay out of direct sunlight. Now I have found a thought that states that the sun might cause a allergic reaction with this medication.  I wonder if it could just be a reaction around my eyes.  Meanwhile I stumbled accross a site that sells Blue Emu Oil. This is recommended for skin problems, a mixture of omega's. I will give it a try.
