sharp head pain above and behind right ear

Hi, can anyone give me a clue as to why I am suffering from sudden sharp head pain above and behind my right ear? It has only occurred in the last couple of days. The pain is coming often, sometimes several times a minute, its very sharp, makes me wince and catch my breath and is then gone. There is no warning and is worrying me. The area is beginning to feel bruised, without being poked about. Sometimes, the pain shoots into the neck down behind my ear. Generally I am in good health, I am of average weight, 36 yrs old and I smoke about 5-10 cigarettes per day. I have been quite tired recently and have noticed in the last couple of weeks some muscle and joint soreness and stiffness (iv'e put down to arthritic or rheumatic pain), especially in my hands, back and neck - not dehabillitating, but quite sore. I hope someone can put my mind at rest that none of these symptoms are connected and the sudden onset of these sharp headache pains is just stress or something similarly normal? Oh, and I do have a cough from a nasty cold with fluish type symptoms which I got in China at the end of August - the cough never completely cleared up, but I guess that is down to the smoking.... I know the answer to that one, but anyone who wants to tell me to stop, please feel free!! Maybe it will help push me into it...! thanks to anyone who can help with the headaches!

Idiopathic pain behind right ear. Did you get a website launched for this purpose? I have lived with the right stabbing electric shock pain on the right side back of neck/head for at least 39 years.  ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** private e-mails not allowed*** Please read our Terms of Use
I am 54 and this sharp, stabbing pain started 4 days ago and the only way I can get it to let up is to take 4 Ibuprofen at a time. That kills it for a few hours and then it's back. The stabbing happens every 3-20 seconds and makes me wince and I've about had it! I have started putting Frankincense oil on that area too to see if it helps. Am going to start taking the vit B12 and see if that will help. I cannot function like this!
hi, i have tis reguarly after a flu with cold. my doctor says blowing your nose cold outward has pull back in opposite reaction (equal and opposite reaction theory). so cold droplets are pulled back into your nose and deposited in a sinus above the right ear. it rots there and that is what causes the pain. he gave me antibiotics which give me relief after a day.. i am careful to slowly reopen my nostril after blowing nosecold out, but when i am careless...BAM.
Ouch! Sounds painful i dont suffer from it but my dad does. Thanks

(Family history). I have Been trying to discover the problem hence reading this site and came across a site I think it was a migraine organisations literature look it up see what you think look up ice pick headaches this is the common name used but the site uses its medical term too. Yes. Just a few moments ago. Like the other guy mentioned I too have had it off and on since I was kid though along with what I refer to as shivers. I never thought to ask anyone about it or mention it to a doctor. I didn't have a cell phone as a kid though.
Praise be the Lord
Have you figured out what the problem is my wife is 33 and also has this same problem
I have been having a similar problem but for some reason when i look to the left or stretch my neck to the left a pain will happen behind my ear except it only hurts when i stretch my neck and the harder i try to stretch it, it feels like my muscle or something is going to rip. But the when i just look to the right it feels like my ear is being pulled or almost ripped out and i was wondering if anyone knows what the problem is.
I've been told from a couple of doctors that it might be due to high blood pressure- whether it's constant, or only happens at certain times like me like if I'm stressed or hungover- and when the artery swells up it pushes on the nerves that are right next to it, hence the immediate sharpness of the pain
Is there anyone that could actually give a response to the question instead,of talking about having the same problem over and over
Hi please let me know as I have the same symptoms.
Interesting. Ive been researchig the net today I got a scare because I had these sharp pains up the right back of my neck ear then up to the top of my head. My first day and it worries me. I have read about brain zaps and apparently they wont kill you. I But I want to know more so I will read as much as i can about what is happening to me. I have just started wearing reading glasses and also I have been taking Gingko. Also Redseal pills with garlic, echinaecea, zinc and vit c. Ill give it a couple more days and if it doesnt stop then off to the doctors for me.
I think so i am all of the above. I was a strong healthy young woman right up to my late 40s then started putting on weight, low exercise and sluggish. Time to make some changes as I am now in my late 50s.
If you have been to a doctor and the diagnosis declares you normal and healthy, then you are experiencing DNA activation symptoms. Try to work through the pain by meditating, applying cool compress to the affected area, keep hydrated and avoid caffeine. Treat your body like the temple it is and STOP smoking!
