sharp head pain above and behind right ear

Hi, can anyone give me a clue as to why I am suffering from sudden sharp head pain above and behind my right ear? It has only occurred in the last couple of days. The pain is coming often, sometimes several times a minute, its very sharp, makes me wince and catch my breath and is then gone. There is no warning and is worrying me. The area is beginning to feel bruised, without being poked about. Sometimes, the pain shoots into the neck down behind my ear. Generally I am in good health, I am of average weight, 36 yrs old and I smoke about 5-10 cigarettes per day. I have been quite tired recently and have noticed in the last couple of weeks some muscle and joint soreness and stiffness (iv'e put down to arthritic or rheumatic pain), especially in my hands, back and neck - not dehabillitating, but quite sore. I hope someone can put my mind at rest that none of these symptoms are connected and the sudden onset of these sharp headache pains is just stress or something similarly normal? Oh, and I do have a cough from a nasty cold with fluish type symptoms which I got in China at the end of August - the cough never completely cleared up, but I guess that is down to the smoking.... I know the answer to that one, but anyone who wants to tell me to stop, please feel free!! Maybe it will help push me into it...! thanks to anyone who can help with the headaches!
Amen!! Thank you for that! I even think we go through pain to be reminded that the only thing that can help/relieve/heal us is God so we need to call on Him by prayer as Believers in Christ or by repentance and recognizing Him as our Savoir. In other words sometimes he just wants to remind us or He's calling us through the pain. God bless you!

I have the same thing. I’m 16, and I’m not sure what this is. A sharp pulse behind my upper right ear every 20 seconds or so. It started last night & has been present since. I winced at first but have since stopped because it happens so often.

I don't take vitamins however I do drink rock stars. The last drink I had was on Friday and I started getting this on Saturday and I have not had a rockstar since. I am still experiencing the sharp intense pain behind my right ear yet still no rockstar or never vitamins. Monday I went to the doctors and she suggested I had beginning stages of shingles do to the symptoms. She said to expect to break out in a rash in the next couple days and I did not so I felt she diagnosed me wrong and demanded an MRI. Today is Thursday waiting for the insurance approval for the MRI and we'll have it done ASAP. and once I get the results I will follow up with everybody on this site. I've never had this happen to me before I am 52 years old and very active

I too am having this sharp stabbing pain behind my right ear. I have had it before and it came and went so fast that I forget about it. Today though it has been going off and on all day. Looked it up. This is the only symptom I have. It appears to be occipital neuralgia. I may need to see my doctor to confirm this and get it treated.
I have the same pain, but on the left side. I do take several B Vitamins, including B-Complex. I will investigate !!! Thanks.

I would like to see some resolution on this, I would like to help with any kind of research to help.
I work out every single day (usually an hour), I watch what I eat for the most part, & I'm in shape - basically a fitness enthusiast. Yet, I have had this same pain off & on for several years now (37 year old female). Comes & goes so I've thought nothing of it, but it's been acting up again. Mine is described as a dull ache that intensifies for a split second, then subsides (but I still feel the ache until it eventually goes away on it's own within a few days to a week). Its at the base of my skull, on the right side, behind the ear. So I don't think physical fitness has anything to do with it TBH. & I don't take a multivitamin (which I should).
