sharp head pain above and behind right ear

Hi, can anyone give me a clue as to why I am suffering from sudden sharp head pain above and behind my right ear? It has only occurred in the last couple of days. The pain is coming often, sometimes several times a minute, its very sharp, makes me wince and catch my breath and is then gone. There is no warning and is worrying me. The area is beginning to feel bruised, without being poked about. Sometimes, the pain shoots into the neck down behind my ear. Generally I am in good health, I am of average weight, 36 yrs old and I smoke about 5-10 cigarettes per day. I have been quite tired recently and have noticed in the last couple of weeks some muscle and joint soreness and stiffness (iv'e put down to arthritic or rheumatic pain), especially in my hands, back and neck - not dehabillitating, but quite sore. I hope someone can put my mind at rest that none of these symptoms are connected and the sudden onset of these sharp headache pains is just stress or something similarly normal? Oh, and I do have a cough from a nasty cold with fluish type symptoms which I got in China at the end of August - the cough never completely cleared up, but I guess that is down to the smoking.... I know the answer to that one, but anyone who wants to tell me to stop, please feel free!! Maybe it will help push me into it...! thanks to anyone who can help with the headaches!

I would take a survey. No answer from doctor - Aleve helps. Strangely I have recently been taking a lot of B vitamins.
I've suffered for a few years with this problem and doctors told me it was in my head. Stabbing pains shooting pains and dizziness I ended up in hospitals thinking I was having a brain hemerage they gave me paracetamol and left me sitting for 10 hrs. I went home the dizziness got so bad I couldn't lift my head off my pillow. . So I made an appointment to see an ENT it turned out to be sinusitis and vertigo it comes and goes. But I'll never get rid of it only learn to live with it.
Hi. I know this sounds crazy but I suffered with this same stuff for months about 8 years ago. I was ready to kill myself. Because it would just come out of nowhere and I was bedridden for days . I used to think it was a sinus infection but my doctor said no. But one day my Latter Day Saint neighbor asked if I would like to try having a blessing. I didn't believe that would do anything but I figured I had nothing to lose. Well I was shocked. They went away and I have not had one since. I eventually joined the church and feel so grateful and blessed to be healed! I truly hope you find help. I remember the pain. All the best to you.
Could be MS. Go get an MRI
Me too. I'm 53 years old and have had episodes off and on for decades. My mother died at age 44 from a "cerebral infarct." So a few years ago I thought it best to have my issue checked out. Had a MRI and MRE. Neither showed any problems, which gave me some peace of mind about the thoughts of anything terminal. I can go months without having an episode. But JESUS, when the pain hits, it certainly gets your attention! I am currently in day three of periodic episodes, which is much longer than normal. After researching, I am convinced mine is just occipital neuralgia. But if it doesn't subside soon, I'm going back to the doc.
Can you explain more ?
Sharp stabbing pains just above and behind my left ear. Third day now. They make me wince. Come and go, sometimes every few seconds, sometimes further between. Started after a day of flu/allergy-like symptoms of stuffy head, headache, inflamed ears and runny nose cleared up. I'm generally healthy otherwise, except for two teeth whose nerves are still sensitive after being crowned three months ago.
Your symptoms sound the most like mine. It started for me when i was about 18 and in college. I also have anxiety and also a female. Im 27 now and i still deal with it exactly how you described. Sometimes a couple times a day and sometimes not for days. Idk whatthe heck it is. I stress so much had me thinking about brain tumors. But i know i tend to exaggerate.
Hi. Im a 34 year old male. I've had this for over 2 weeks now. Did you ever find any answers?
