sharp head pain above and behind right ear

Hi, can anyone give me a clue as to why I am suffering from sudden sharp head pain above and behind my right ear? It has only occurred in the last couple of days. The pain is coming often, sometimes several times a minute, its very sharp, makes me wince and catch my breath and is then gone. There is no warning and is worrying me. The area is beginning to feel bruised, without being poked about. Sometimes, the pain shoots into the neck down behind my ear. Generally I am in good health, I am of average weight, 36 yrs old and I smoke about 5-10 cigarettes per day. I have been quite tired recently and have noticed in the last couple of weeks some muscle and joint soreness and stiffness (iv'e put down to arthritic or rheumatic pain), especially in my hands, back and neck - not dehabillitating, but quite sore. I hope someone can put my mind at rest that none of these symptoms are connected and the sudden onset of these sharp headache pains is just stress or something similarly normal? Oh, and I do have a cough from a nasty cold with fluish type symptoms which I got in China at the end of August - the cough never completely cleared up, but I guess that is down to the smoking.... I know the answer to that one, but anyone who wants to tell me to stop, please feel free!! Maybe it will help push me into it...! thanks to anyone who can help with the headaches!
trek78, what did you find out? As I'm reading everyone's posts, none of them were like my symptoms except for yours. I'm going to try to get my doctor to take an MRI. My pain is getting worse and worse, more painful and more often.

I'm also thinking its my sinus. Have it behind my left ear and head. Sharp pain that's been hanging around for a couple days. I've had the pain before with sinus infections but I don't have any other sinus issues at the moment just the pain.

I read in a post before yours, she stopped taking Vitamin B complex and figured out that's what was causing hers. Most of us take multivitamins so I'd start there.

I don't take a mulitvitamin, but have this intermittent stabbing pain like an electric shock behind my right ear. It disappears for months at a time, but I've been having it for 5 days now and going crazy./

I've been getting this pain for 7 years now, sharp pain right side of head above ear, I've had pregabalin, gabapebtin which put on 5 stone in weight, with pain if gets too intense I've had speech slurring like I'm drunk , n pain so intense I vomit water sumtimes every 10 minutes for up to an hour , I now have Botox injections along with anaesthetic injections into my head every three months this is working, or has been for up to 4 years but now I think I'm getting immune to them normally I'm pain free for 2 months out of 3 ' I take targinact for bad head pains , they do not know what it is , sum insurance companies won't insure me because I have no diagnosis , please help anyone , this is taking over my life n I'm getting to the end of my rope now ,,,, if you can help I appreciate it , shaz ,,,,, contact me thanx guys
