sharp head pain above and behind right ear

Hi, can anyone give me a clue as to why I am suffering from sudden sharp head pain above and behind my right ear? It has only occurred in the last couple of days. The pain is coming often, sometimes several times a minute, its very sharp, makes me wince and catch my breath and is then gone. There is no warning and is worrying me. The area is beginning to feel bruised, without being poked about. Sometimes, the pain shoots into the neck down behind my ear. Generally I am in good health, I am of average weight, 36 yrs old and I smoke about 5-10 cigarettes per day. I have been quite tired recently and have noticed in the last couple of weeks some muscle and joint soreness and stiffness (iv'e put down to arthritic or rheumatic pain), especially in my hands, back and neck - not dehabillitating, but quite sore. I hope someone can put my mind at rest that none of these symptoms are connected and the sudden onset of these sharp headache pains is just stress or something similarly normal? Oh, and I do have a cough from a nasty cold with fluish type symptoms which I got in China at the end of August - the cough never completely cleared up, but I guess that is down to the smoking.... I know the answer to that one, but anyone who wants to tell me to stop, please feel free!! Maybe it will help push me into it...! thanks to anyone who can help with the headaches!
It is behind Left ear.

Did you ask any doctor if it's tuberculosis? Your symptoms are very close to cervical tuberculosis.
I will suggest you to go for MRI of upper cervicals.
Cervical is the upper portion of Back bone.

After reading all these problems concerning nerve pain above the ear, I thought I would tell you that I have the same problem on my left side. I have just reached my 80th birthday and this started shortly after I was in my middle 20's. It started as a neuralgia like pain, I would only get it for a day or so after I went out in the cold w/o a head covering. I remember the nights, how it would stab me and was painful and scary. Over the years it has grown a lot worse and is just about unbearable. Night time seems to be okay. Have been diagnosed with a deteriorating cervical spine on X-Ray Not much can be done because of all the nerves involved in the neck and would be a very dangerous. Using the phone is also very painful on my left ear. I was checked and it's not TMJ but am taking sinus meds for sinus blockage. I wouldn't mind checking Vit B-12. shots.
Complete bullshit! The radiation is FAR too weak to cause a problem.
I am experiencing these exact symptoms, only over my left ear. I am 68 years old. These sharp shooting pains are excruciating! Nothing I have read so far has addressed what can be done to lessen or aleviate thi pain. I had this about 14 years ago.anc it just stopped after a while. And back then, the Dr mentioned Trigeminal neurologa..
When I was much younger I snorted cocaine occasionally. The snorting activity caused this kind of feeling of a nerve being stressed above and/or behind my left ear. And it wasn't a hit and run feeling. I think it could be brought on again by simply holding my nose and trying to inhale through it. I'm 60 now and it's been 32 years since I last used coke. Today, for the first time, I got a searing "hit and run" jolt of pain behind my right ear. It was alarmingly intense. I already take gabapentin for diabetic neuropathy so one would think I would not get that kind of thing but whoa, that's why I'm here and trying to get to the bottom of what these odd just-below-the-surface pains are that are obviously outside of the skull between the skin and skull.
Tried the "holding my nose and trying to inhale through it" test: Heard lots of squishy, juicy sounds. This reminded me of a homeopathic remedy someone told me about once: To help clear the Eustachian tubes run thumbs along jawline from bottom of ears to chin. I had a sinus infection, maybe brought on by Spring allergies, but there's still lots of drainage going it. Might also look into B-12 injections, as someone suggested here.
I got first time this pain the next day after my hepatitis vaccine. it was like electric shock behind my left ear. I had that 3 times but it was so strong that i felt dizzy. Then it disappeared. Then after two months i got earache and my dr. said that my Eustachian tube is clogged. But i did,t feel that. And then the electric shocks in my head behind my left ear came back. Unfortunately this time they were every few minutes and from morning till evening. Tylenol was helpful every few hrs. And at night i didn't need any painkillers. In the morning i was waking up sure that the pain is over but it was coming back after an hour. Half of my head was so painful to touch that i couldn't wash or brush my hair. The nerve behind my ear attacked me so much in different points each time that sometimes i had feeling that the nerve jumps. I could easily located that place and sometimes when i pressed it hurt little bit less. I felt that nerve under the skin. Worst 7 days of my life. Now i have ear ringing and probably sinusitis that is chronic. Ear still sometimes hurt just a bit and head behind the ear sometimes hurts. I don't know what causes that but for sure not trigeminal neuralgia because the pain starts behind the ear and ends exactly in the middle of my head. Never hurts in my face area. Nobody can help me with that. I use neti pot, nasal steroids, antibiotics, ear drops. Good luck for all of u!
I am not taking any multivitamins and have these symptoms.
I'm a 36 year old female. I also get this and take multivitamins. Also I've noticed that I get it when my immune system is weak and I've been sick or about to start my cycle.
I'm experiencing the same symptoms
I get sudden head aches on the right side of my head ear and neck. I feel like my ear is clog and I can't clear it. I was reading about ice pick head aches but my headaches last hours not seconds
If anyone has gotten relieve with something please share
This happen to me but I never take multi vitamins and I rarely take any medicine because I dont like taking medicine at all.
My doctor told me its a lymph node that swells from allergies. I hardly ever get a runny or stuffy nose so i think the congestion settles in that lymph node.
