When I was 10, I was admitted into the hospital for 2 or 3 days but I can't remember what the doctor diagnosis was. Dr. Pasquirelli prescribed medicine for the pain and it worked within 30 minutes or so.
At that time I was given a list of foods I should not eat such as chocolate, bananas, whole milk, eggs, white bread, oranges etc. it was a lot more but I can't remember.
As an adult, I did go to the doctor and explained to the doctor what was going on and she said when my navel pain comes back, if it's during office hours to let the receptionist know so I can get in right away or go the the nearest ER. That will be impossible to do because I have to lay in a fetal position and sleep it off and hope it is gone by the time I go to the bathroom.
I am really interested in finding the answer.
IM SO GLAD IM NOT THE ONLY ONE!! i thought there was something wrong with me only
im a 15 year old female and the first few times i got this, i thought it was just a weird type of cramp and never really paid attention to it. I've been getting these pains for months and it would just come when it would please. Then i eventually noticed that it was something bigger. I recently just got one of these episodes. I had the same sharp pain like a string or hook behind my bellybutton. It would hurt so much but when i crouch it would somewhat relieve the pain. When i get this i cant stretch or stand straight without feeling like my stomach is about to tear apart. Just when i thought that was it, it only got worse. When i go to pee IT HURTS LIKE HELL. I literally had to stop peeing because i couldn't bare the pain. The pain in my stomach was so fricken bad i can not explain it to anyone. The only people who know what im talking about and know how i feel are you guys. After peeing the pain was still there and i couldnt even stand straight. I had to walk like an old man, holding my stomach. It felt like there was this string or hook that was in my stomach. i just cant get over how much it hurts!! Im just curious as to why this has to happen to me?!!? WHYY
I went to my laptop and searched up what it might be. I came across things like a UTI, appendicitis, adenomyosis, different types of hernia... THE INTERNET SCARED ME AND I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DYING OR SOMETHING. But then i calmed myself down because most of these have symptoms of nausea or fevers ... which i didnt have, only that stupid pain behind my bellybutton. And i didnt have appendicitis or else my appendix probably wouldve bursted by now. So i went to the walk in clinic asap (which was today because i had those pains again) I just had enough and wanted to be cured!! I explained my symptoms to the doctor and he said he wasnt sure about the pain in my stomach but suggested that i had an infection in my vagina. I peed in one of those cup things and i got tested. It came out......POSITIVE. So i have an infection now but he said he wasn't too sure about the stomach thing. My pee is right now going to a lab to see exactly what i have. He also gave my antibiotics for it. He said that if my pain doesn't go away in about 3 days then something else is wrong. I hope this stupid pain goes away!!! Another thing he told me was that i might have diabetes!!!!!! I HOPE TO GOD I DONT! i searched up symptoms of diabetes and a urinary infection was one. All the other symptoms apply to me expect i dont have numbness in any body parts or weight loss nor am i over weight. Although, i dont have a good diet. I made an actual doctor appointment to get tested and look further into this (because this was only a walk-in-clinic) The doctor still wasnt too sure about this bellybutton pain thing. When i go to my appointment on Thursday i hope they'll find out but im just so scared that its something really bad or diabetes! :(( I personally think its something different, something that doctors havent even diagnosed yet
Don't hesitate to go to the doctors, it wont hurt to get a checkup. To everyone else who said they went and got tested but everything was negative, i sure hope one day it will become discovered as to what it is! I still don't even know what i have for sure either..
all i can say is DONT GIVE UP "science is getting closer" IS WHAT THEY SAY BUT IF IT WAS TRUE THEN WE WOULD KNOW WHAT THIS PAINFUL STUPID THING IS BY NOW. SCIENCE NEEDS TO BE RIGHT HERE NOT CLOSE!
I'm so relieved to hear this.. somebody who has EXACTLY what I have. You described it perfectly. I'm an 18 year old boy, and this has been happening to me since about age 12 on and off.
I HAVE FOUND THE ANSWER!!! A few considerations: I only get this pain off/on for maybe 10-15 days a year, but it is certainly that debilitating string pain running from the navel and into my urethra (i'm a maaan, baby). I have never had surgery, I do not have a belly button piercing (if you do, take it out asap), and have never suffered a hernia. All said i'm 100% healthy and as a landscaper VERY active.
WHICH PART OF MY BODY IS ACTIN A FOOL?? It's called the "median umbilical ligament", and you can google it.
WHY IS THAT LIGAMENT TENSING UP?? One of four potential reasons: 1. Dehydration; 2. Potassium deficiency; 3. Too much sitting; 4. All of the above.
MY SOLUTION: The last few times it's happened I've been sweating like a banshee, sitting for a long time without hydrating, or both (I'm a landscaper). Each time I stopped at the grocery store and slammed 3 bananas and grazed a solid 10 servings of spinach in between meals through out the day, getting plenty of water. Pain gone within a couple hours every time.
That's right... IT'S A CHARLIE-HORSE IN THE MEDIAN UMBILICAL LIGAMENT!
Please keep in mind that everyone is different. Again, I only get this pain off/on for maybe 10-15 days a year. If you have it everyday, it's probably not as simple as increasing your potassium intake and drinking a bunch of water. I've heard though, that it is possible to get it (the MUL) removed or "snipped".
There is also a working theory that tying the off/knotting of the umbilical cord after birth is unnatural, much in the same way mutilation eRmMmm, I mean "circumcision" of a healthy baby boy is unnatural, and can cause more problems than it solves. Good luck and I hope what helped me can help you too.
I have experienced this for nearly 20 years now on and off. I have had many doctors check this. It is not stones kidney or bladder, urinary tract infection, gall bladder, yeast infection (for girls), any type of uterine infection or pancreas issues. I have been told its a possible hernia but I did have that checked as well and guess what.. Nothing! Like i said its an elusive joke of a pain. It comes on and off and as stated by a lot of people mostly when you urinate. The best way to describe my pain (not sure about others) is like a thin rope behind your belly button down to your bladder. When you urinate its like it goes from 5 inches long to 1/2 inch. So when you sit up unexpectedly you double over instantly. Its like tearing a ligament behind your belly button but there is nothing in your stomach muscles where this pain is associated. I deal with a lot of other pains and I can say this one will drop you when it hits. People all think your nuts because your holding yourself and it if you move when the pain is there its excruciating. I have also searched the internet to no avail if any doctor would like to take a serious look I would be happy to be a guinea pig because its tiresome and like many other people on this site you feel and are told your crazy (or physiological as doctors state = which is doctor speak your head is making up the pain) Hang in there I'm hoping one day some doctor will actually fulfill their oath as a doctor and actually help.
