Guys, I came here looking to see about getting corrective hip surgery. It's really easy for me to say, because I actually went to an orthopedic surgeon for this. All of you might have what I have had, especially if you are any of the following: overweight, played contact sports, excessive bike riding etc... The ball of your femur could be slowly coming out of your pelvis. It works its way out, touching the pelvis socket that holds the ball of your femur, which causes sharp shooting pains, almost like arthritis but worse. It could very well be your bones touching, which really hurts. I got a pin in my hip about 15 years ago. Had crutches for 6 weeks. But after the surgery, the pain went away for about 15 years. Now its coming back because I haven't really got into yoga or anything that promotes health (lol) so I am having pain again, and may need surgery, again. It's about a $20,000 surgery (well that was 15 years ago). Good luck.

I definitely recommend looking into the BFST. It is designed to help heal any soft tissue damage. Lots of great things on the testimonial page.

Hi everyone!
I found this site searching for possible causes tony joint pain. Mine just started. 2 nights ago a sharp burning pain woke me from a deep sleep. My left hip joint felt like it was on fire! It lasted about 2 minutes but dear lord so intense! I can't imagine having this pain constant. I would t be able to speak.
So I was just sitting here having coffee and it started again. It's definitely my hip joint, but I have arthritis in my knees and it doesn't feel like this. It's my outer joint, left side.
Now I do lean right a lot due to my job but it really doesn't feel like it's in my back. I'm hypothesising but I think I may have a tear in my left hip or a hyperextended muscle there from leaning right all of the time. I just don't understand the sporadic
Nature of the pain or the intensity. I'm hoping maybe somebody out there knows something about this.

Having the same problem as the people on this site, I have been putting heat pads where the pain is and it helps very quickly, not a cure, but the pain is shorter.

As much as we all love heat treatments such as warm baths ( i love love love them), hot water bottles, etc. they won't actually help heal any soft tissue damage you may have (ie. torn tendon, torn ligament, pulled muscle, etc.). Heat does relax the muscles; however, in order to heal, heat must be promoted from below the dermal layer. Our bodies work really hard to maintain a constant internal temperature. Picture for instance being outside in +30C or -30C temperatures, you will feel cold or hot on the surface, but your internal temperature if checked with a thermometer, hasn't changed. Same goes for when you put a heating pad on your skin and expect a change in blood flow below the dermal layer. What you need, in order to heal, is blood to circulate where the injury is....below the dermal layer, within the soft tissue. This is the nourishing circulation you get from physical activity (which usually isn't an option when you are in pain). To help reduce the risk factor of hard physical activity, focus on treatments such as massage therapy, ultrasound or bfst. Our bodies have a natural ability to heal by bringing any injured area blood flow, however, the rate at which it does so is very slow. Increasing the circulation increases the amount of nutrients and oxygen and thus helps you heal at an accelerated rate. The increased blood flow also lubricates the area, helping prevent further damage during movements.

After an injury...even days/weeks after an injury, cold therapy is always the best thing you can do before focusing on treatments for blood flow. It will reduce the swelling and any internal inflammation you may have, and will relieve the pain you are experiencing. Inflammation forms a barrier and blocks the bodies natural ability to bring blood flow to the area along with the additional efforts to increase the blood flow to the area.

For a those of you getting sharp pain in your hip joint area or the muscles around, you need to get a hip xray. Go to an orthopedist! It's probably the beginning stages of hip osteoarthritis. I had the same and waited 3 yrs until it was unbearable before checking it out. At that point all they could do was a hip replacement. If I'd gone in earlier, PT might have helped. Don't put off having it checked out.
