Wow great stuff on here but not really any answers. Same symptoms and haven't seen the doctor nor plan to. Mine started with swollen gums the top and bottom front4 teeth and a slight tingle in the back of my throat. By the end of the day I got extremely tired even bought a "RockStar" energy drink to try and give me a little boost. They usually do but this time nothing. By night I had a fever of 101.6 and was very cold. The next morning a very soar throat and 3 canker soars on the tip of my tongue as well as the fever now 102.8, swollen gums and a headache. At this point I have only taken 2 Tylenol for the fever which broke the fever every time exactly 1.5hours later but then the fever returned every 3-4hours. I also sprayed with Chloraseptic for the soar throat which is basically useless. If you can get it back there without your gag reflex kicking in you get about 3minutes of relief. So doing research online and being to stubborn and broke to see a doctor I decide to try Hydrogen Peroxide treatments. We all have that under our bathroom sinks. I have also started drinking Airborne and CranGrape juice to get the Zinc and Vitamin C. however it burns pretty bad drinking either. I read Online that a solution of Hydrogen Peroxide with a little water to gargle and swish with will safely and painlessly kill EVERYTHING in your mouth (Just don't swallow). So I started that treatment along with the peroxide at full strength in my ears yesterday. I'm in day 4 of this agony day two of the peroxide treatment and the fevers have gone away completely, surprising to me the canker soars have stopped hurting and have shrunk in half in just 24hours! I have suffered with canker soars my entire life and I am 34 never has a canker soar healed that much in 24hours! Several websites online stated that the Flu and cold virus can possibly enter thru the ear canal and that Hydrogen Peroxide is the best thing prevent or treat it. And you know peroxide is killing when it is bubbling. Best thing is it doesn't burn or sting like mouthwash. So last night I was determined to try the peroxide thing and I think there is something here to this and ya don't need a prescription or an expensive doctors visit. A simple little $.99 brown bottle of peroxide. Get a clean glass, pour some peroxide in the glass about the amount you would swish mouthwash with, then add a splash of water to it so the peroxide is not full strength. (A splash meaning about half the amount of the peroxide you added). Take a little bit and gargle first, then swish. Spit it out and you will see and feel a lot of foam. The peroxide is killing that bacteria, virus, flu, cold, canker soar on contact! Rinse, swish and gargle with plain water now and get all the foam out. Now repeat with the Peroxide again and again until the foam gets less and less, always rinsing and gargling with water in between and NEVER SWALLOW THE PEROXIDE. The little residue of bubbles left in your mouth after spitting it out wont hurt you to swallow but swallowing a large amount of straight hydrogen peroxide can. The interesting thing I noticed is my throat pain was reduced instantly and the swelling of my gums have all gone down after a few hours. Other positive side effects are your teeth will get a few shades whiter and your bad breath will be gone. On top of that it is a "Green" product for our pets and environment. So "Airborne", Juice, Hydrogen Peroxide, and Tylenol and of course lots of sleep and DVDs. Hope this helps some! I think i'll be 100% by day 6 with no doctor visits or prescriptions. Oh do drops in the ears 5min each 2-3times a day also. Not sure if it's helping but worth a shot and feels kinda soothing.

I have the same symptoms listed by most, and it was nice to see some of the potential solutions available. My only problem is that there is no definitive solution yet! Did everyone that post with their symptoms die? Lol. Someone who has HAD this please post if you see this, because I'm on day 4 and I'm ready to die now. It doesn't have to be a quick fix, but maybe even some information about the expected duration, home remedies for pain, ect?

Thanks!

Hi all! I'm glad I found this post. I've been suffering from the same thing, here is my remedy for it.

Mine started out with a lot of canker sores, swollen lip, then my lymph nodes started swelling and the next day I ended up having over 10 canker sores all over my mouth (tongue, inside lip, cheeks and even on my tonsils). I went to my dentist and she thought it might be an initial outbreak of herpes simplex (the one that causes cold sores). I didn't have cold sores ever before and there didn't appear to be any on my lips but my lips were very dry and cracked and what looked like a lot of holes. I kept getting more and more canker sores everyday (probably up to 40 by now). My tongue, lips, cheek and throat were very swollen. My throat hurt so much that swallowing water was even difficult, i didn't want to talk or eat.

The dentist put me on an antiviral medication, acyclovir, 200mg 5 times a day. I've been taking it for 4 days now, along with some home remedies. She also prescribed me 2% lidocaine rinse to numb your mouth for a little while. Additionally, I am rinsing my mouth 2-3 times with hydrogen peroxide (mixed one part peroxide with 2 parts water) and swishing it and gurgling it a few times then rinse with water. It stings a bit, but give it 5 minutes and your mouth feels better. I've found that the sores shrink in size and heel faster than most of my canker sores in the past do (when i've had one or two) and don't treat them at all. I'm also drinking a lot of water and milk. I find the milk soothing. I am also eating yogurt (with probiotics). First few bites sting but I also find this the most soothing thing to eat because its cold and it seems to make my sores not hurt for awhile. I'm also taking vitamin supplements (vitC, vitB complexes, zinc, folic acid) and also taking acidophilus pills to boost my probiotics (especially since i'm rinsing my mouth with peroxide which kills everything, even the good bacteria). I'm using a lot of lip balm just to keep my lips moist. I'm really stressed right now, which may have caused the onset of this break out or infection. I've been sleeping a lot in the past few days too. I don't know if it is anything alone that is helping but the sores have finally stopped forming and i'm finally feeling much better....i'm on day 6 of this and am praying it goes away very soon. This is by far one of the most painful things i've had to deal with. Best of luck!

I have all the same symptoms. It started off with a sore throat and my gums were a bit inflammed. Then it kept getting worse with a fever and body aches. My tongue also had a few canker sores and I couldn't brush or eat properly because of my swollen gums.

I went to the doctor who just took one quick look at my throat and said it was a bacterial infection and that everything else was related to it. He prescribed Amoxicillin that I have to take three times daily for ten days. I'm on day two of taking them and my throat is already feeling a lot better. My gums are still very swollen and a few of the canker sores have gone away. It's still very hard to eat and brush, so I'm still very worried about this. I have never had problems with my gums and I did have a routine checkup with my dentist 2 days before my symptoms showed up and everything was fine then. I just want this to go away, I have never hated brushing and eating so much in my life..

I got ulsa's forming on the top right of my lip, then another on my lip. My throat become very sore and my glands went up massively and are still swelling. It hurts for me to swollow and eat and recently i been dizzy, high temperature, feeling sick (but not being physically sick) and very weak. My Gums started swelling at the back of my teeth so they're hidden and started to increase, now my gums are red but not bleeding just very painful and are now noticeable. My tongue has formed a white layer and i cant taste anything, even though i brush everynight and even brush my tongue. I have just started taking Paracillin but i dont know if its working or not. I've lost my appitite to eat anything and force feed myself as i think its the cause of feeling sick but everything i eat is too painful to chew and swollow, so then i dont want to eat it. Any Answers on what i can do?

I have exactly the same symptoms. My 11 year old step son got it first, then my 14 month old son, now myself. we've all been tested for strep and all were negative. I'm waiting for a viral culture to come back. I did some google searching and I'm quite sure what I have is Hand Foot and Mouth Disease. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hand,_foot_and_mouth_disease

I am 16 years old and in april i was having all these syptomes as well so my dad took me to the doctors like ten times and then the last time i had to stay in the er for 2 weeks befor this i had gotton a herpies check and a Strep test they both came back negitve so befor i stayed in the er for two weeks i was not able to eat or drink so i ended up up dehydrated and morphone was not even affecting the pain and after that two weeks still no ideals of what it could be they suggessted it was (sjs) stevens johnson syndrome witch is a severre allergic reaction to somthing such as drugs or food but i was drug tested and it also came back negitive and now i am showing the same symptoms and all they gave me was magic mouth wash to deal with the pain.

i had sort of the same symptoms. I started feeling lightheaded last Monday, so I went to bed. The next day I woke up with canker sores on my tongue (towards the back) and one on my cheek. Also got a sore throat but it was more to the left side (were the canker sores was) which made it hard to eat and drink.

I also got a fever and a headache.

This lasted for about a week; I couldn't do anything, I basically just went to class and to bed everyday. And at one point I was so dehydrated that my lips god really dry and smiling made little cuts happen. My gums also ended up feeling really sensitive, so that eating food was even more painful.

Went to the health center on campus, and they said I had either strep or mono, and did tests for both but both were negative. So they say its a virus. Which basically means you gotta just deal with it. BUT if its not too painful, gargle a teaspoon (or spoonful?) of salt with a cup of water. The doctor said to do it - apparently what it does is it brings white blood cells to fight off the infection in the mouth - and it really helped make the canker sores go away. I'm guessing I had a canker sore in my throat as well, because when the one's in my mouth went away so did my sore throat.

I got better in a week. But still don't know what it was. :/

herpes. now you know why your parents told you not to grow up too fast. lesson learned?

Oral herpes can be passed as easily as sharing a drink with someone, so let's just ignore the slightly condescending tone of this post and try to actually help.
