Getting off suboxone is not as difficult or as painful as some people maintain - here is a system that worked for me and subsequently many of my friends. The first rule is that you do it very very slowly - suboxone can linger in your system for months - yes months - so when you reduce dosages stay on that dosage for at least 1-2 months to allow you system to adjust. You have to fully adjust to each new dose before you reduce to the next lower dose e.g. Start at 8 mg ad go to 7.5mg stay there for 2 months and then go down to 7mg. It is going to take along time but this gradual adjustment will allow you to function and will reduce the temptation of a relapse - in my case to Heroin for 10 yrs so I did not want to go back. Once you get to 2mg reduce by .25 mg. From 1mg down you will then have to reduce by .125mg. To do this you will have to split the 2 mg tablets into 8 pieces (crumbs basically) and follow the 1-2 month adjustment plan. Finally when you have been on your last dosage (.125mg) for 1-2 months you can stop taking subs completely. If you follow this system the jump off is not that bad - I promise. I recommend then that you take a combination of advil, multi vitamins as well as milk thistle and st johns wort if you have budget for it. If you need help or have questions please post a response and I will notified by email that your question is waiting. Good luck good people and God be with you. The Subhelper helps.
Hi there, how many people have successfully completed this treatment? I'd like to know if you have an answer because this seems very intensive. If you have any information, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
I am doing exactly what you suggested. I'v been on Suboxone four 2 1/2 yrs and finally called my doctor Aug 1st and told him i know longer want to be on the program they have had me on 16 mg per day with no answers when it comes to tapering off. From day I i'v only took 4mg every other day(thankfully this has left me plenty left over to taper myself) and its kept me from being sick next week I am going down to 3mg every other day. My problem is in 2005 I was diagnosed with insomnia, cronic sleep disorder, sleep apnia, anxiety and panic disorder. I can only sleep maybe 3 hrs every 4 to 5 days and it sucks (always has) exspecially now going thre this. My regular med Dr (which I was with from 2005-2010) had me on so much pain med and xanax ( which I got off of about a yr ago) and about 10 other kinds of meds I lost all of them at once. I have bulging disks and several other med problems and for no reason dropped all patients with no warning. I had no idea the withdrawls that would come. I chose the sub over methadone and hv no desire 2 take opiates again and havent since the day i started suboxone. I just wish I could sleep. thanks 4 your post I think it will work for me. then maybe I can get a real DR to help me without opiates.

I love this site, Im starting my detox, and Im actually excited to be coming off them to be rid of them. I was taking 7 of the oxycodone 30mg's at a time, once a day, then 3-4 at a time the next day or that evening, depending on availability and the amount of cash I had at that time. I just know I am going to have to be able to talk to others about what Im going through, and Im very glad I stumbled upon this site.

i hear im on subs. 2 years 5 years thats the docs fault. did you notice the docs. dont take insurance, they charge 125 to 175 some docs. charge initial visit 300, then monthly 125 up to 225,so they see you for 5 min. then around 16 to 24 patients per day 4 days a week, their not doctors their one step up from pharmacist, yes they will save your life, but, rehabcosts the same , do the math, rehab will detox you in 4 to 9 days,so its all up to you, subs, become a habbit but since their prescribed by a so called doctor, you legally get high if your on them for more than 3 months, you no by now if your asking the fun of the sub is turning into your old ways of being dependant on a chemical, now that you have this awareness to get off them, do it you can its tuff mentally if your not ready to surrender to subs, why ask us ,tell you doc. how you feel, and demand you get weened off them if you have to have someone give you you controlled dose recomended by a nutrial physician, good luck,

I have insomnia very bad also and had tried every med in the book! Finally in rehab my doc put me on seroquel. It's intended for depression, but a side effect is to induce sleep. I have taken 100mg every night for 4 years and I now sleep like a baby! 30 mins after the dose I fall asleep and wake up 8 or 9 hours later in the same position I fell asleep in! It's the only thing that has ever worked this well for me. The only down side is, I stay groggy for a while the next day. So ask ur doc about it and give it a try. Hope it helps!
