Switch to Subutex. It's half the price. As long as you werent an intravenous addict, your Dr. should have a problem giving it to you. It's the same as Suboxone minus the Naloxone.

Hi there, I am a 22 year old female college student who has come to the realization that I need to face my demons now before I allow them too completely ruin me and what life I do have left. I have been in several car accidents, 3 within 6 month period. The last one I was t-boned and pinned in my car. The last 2+ years I have been prescribed any and every pain killer, narcotic in the book. I have been left witha L3/L4 herniated disc pressing against my sciatic nerve and spinal cord as well as the last three disc to my S1 are dehydrated and have annular fissuring along with facet joint syndrome and disc degeneration disease. I have weened down from opanaER, OxyContin, diluadid too now just Peres 10/325 and Ms Cotin 60mg daily. However after 2 years my body is tolerant and I'm going through a months perscription worth in 12 days. And lately I've really lost control of my life. I really don't know who i am now that these drugs are so firmly rooted in my body. Ive read that they alter and change things with your chemical makeup, behaviors, personality, emotions and moods. I'm not happy anymore. And despite the pain I'm in as it's chronic likely life long enduring issue, I want too be off pills all together. I have so much emotional taxation occurring that I want too free myself and not fall into a habit of using pills too numb my emotional pain. I can go cold turkey I've done it before but I get moody, headaches, throw up. And it's more like my head craves them then less of my back pain needing the pills. I need them too cope with my reality, Im overalls emotional as is. A Sagittarius if that gives insight into anything. My doctor is down too ween me off all pain killers, transfer me into cymbalta. And thinks suboxone would be a good choice. It sounds all fluffy and great, they say it makes you happy. And returns you into a state of normalcy. But that it's basically trading my current drugs of choice for another which I'll eventually have too ween off. And I've heard the withdraws suck too for that.my best friend who was way further into this drug habit thing, recreational as I have legit back pain and I'm trying NOT too abuse them. He said its hell, don't do suboxone, and I promoised I wouldn't. But can I please get some feedback? Ideas? Advice? Suggestions? I really want too be pill frees, they think I may have a mood disorder, I've taken lithium before. I'd like too rid all pain pills and focus on mood pills, going too therapy and for my backs issues take cymbalta, aquatic therapy and homopathic remediies. So anyone can you help me?? Thanks, -Kim

Getting off suboxone is not as difficult or as painful as some people maintain - here is a system that worked for me and subsequently many of my friends. The first rule is that you do it very very slowly - suboxone can linger in your system for months - yes months - so when you reduce dosages stay on that dosage for at least 1-2 months to allow you system to adjust. You have to fully adjust to each new dose before you reduce to the next lower dose e.g. Start at 8 mg ad go to 7.5mg stay there for 2 months and then go down to 7mg. It is going to take along time but this gradual adjustment will allow you to function and will reduce the temptation of a relapse - in my case to Heroin for 10 yrs so I did not want to go back. Once you get to 2mg reduce by .25 mg. From 1mg down you will then have to reduce by .125mg. To do this you will have to split the 2 mg tablets into 8 pieces (crumbs basically) and follow the 1-2 month adjustment plan. Finally when you have been on your last dosage (.125mg) for 1-2 months you can stop taking subs completely. If you follow this system the jump off is not that bad - I promise. I recommend then that you take a combination of advil, multi vitamins as well as milk thistle and st johns wort if you have budget for it. If you need help or have questions please post a response and I will notified by email that your question is waiting. Good luck good people and God be with you. The Subhelper helps.

Hi there, how many people have successfully completed this treatment? I'd like to know if you have an answer because this seems very intensive. If you have any information, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

I am doing exactly what you suggested. I'v been on Suboxone four 2 1/2 yrs and finally called my doctor Aug 1st and told him i know longer want to be on the program they have had me on 16 mg per day with no answers when it comes to tapering off. From day I i'v only took 4mg every other day(thankfully this has left me plenty left over to taper myself) and its kept me from being sick next week I am going down to 3mg every other day. My problem is in 2005 I was diagnosed with insomnia, cronic sleep disorder, sleep apnia, anxiety and panic disorder. I can only sleep maybe 3 hrs every 4 to 5 days and it sucks (always has) exspecially now going thre this. My regular med Dr (which I was with from 2005-2010) had me on so much pain med and xanax ( which I got off of about a yr ago) and about 10 other kinds of meds I lost all of them at once. I have bulging disks and several other med problems and for no reason dropped all patients with no warning. I had no idea the withdrawls that would come. I chose the sub over methadone and hv no desire 2 take opiates again and havent since the day i started suboxone. I just wish I could sleep. thanks 4 your post I think it will work for me. then maybe I can get a real DR to help me without opiates.

I can tell you how I got off subs after being on for only a couple months. I wasnt really a heavy opiate user back then but my method worked. Basically I just waited for withdrawl symptoms as long as I could take it forcing my brain to relearn and then only taking enough suboxone to get rid of the pain and get some sleep. 1 day turned into 2 days then 3 days then 4 and eventually after a couple weeks I didnt need it again. I still had a tab or two left when I was done and it was a huge relief having that monkey off my back. I wasnt in a position to white knuckle it, I had a job and bills and nobody to take care of me. Unfortunately a year later I got epstein barr and started using pills again to counter the pain and fatigue that was ruining my job and my life. I switched over to subutex because they gave me the same energy but didnt realize they were addictive. Honestly it didnt matter I needed to be able to get out of bed and work and believe me the symptoms of epstein barr are just as bad as withdrawl. In fact thats what i thought it was until I got tested. So anyway now I'm weaning off the subs in the same manner only taking about 1mg every 24 hours or so or when I'm feeling tired. If its anything like last time I should be able to start spreading it out farther and farther. I have never been a hardcore addict so I cant really say if its easier for me but I do believe the docs do keep you on longer than they should and maybe its to give you time to get your life together but for me I have dealt with this long enough. Its time.

Oh and I forgot to mention I had switched to suboxone about a year ago and ramped down to 2mgs a day in the morning when getting up and over the last month I have now ramped down to about 1mg or an 8th of a strip only when feeling crappy and by crappy I only mean tired I have yet to wait for the full onset of withdrawl. I will be letting my body go longer and longer with these last 10 strips and hopefully wont need nearly all of them. I have never seen anyone use this method of using only when needed and not as preventative to avoid withdrawl. Its not going to be entirely without pain and some sleep depravation but I believe it can be done comfortably. Just my experience and opinion and dont expect it to work for everyone. We are all different.

I have been addicted to Fentanyl, sucking on 2-3 100mcg patches each day. Checked myself to treatment center for few weeks and was given Suboxone for 7 days to help with withdrawals. It worked really well for me.

the way suboxone works makes your tapper off method impossible. the half life had not kicked in before your last dose according to your step down so the way you did it would not work for anyone else and you just have a high pain tolerance.

You will be fine. It's all in your head. You are messing your self up just worrying about it. You have 5 left. That's a lot! Your family is more important. For me I was on pain meds or subs for 10 years it took me 3 trips to rehab but I'm sick of worring about if I have meds. I weaned myself down to .25 of 8 mg film and I was sick for 3 weeks couldn't sleep, eat, stomach ach, bad for about 4 days but it took me 4 weeks till I felt halfway normal. Then a friend had some & I started up again. After all that hard work to get clean but this time I only used for 4 months so the WDs were not nearly as bad. I am on day 4 and I don't have much energy but I can get some sleep, I hope I don't have much longer but I did this to myself so here goes . Good luck pray a lot :)

I love this site, Im starting my detox, and Im actually excited to be coming off them to be rid of them.  I was taking 7 of the oxycodone 30mg's at a time, once a day, then 3-4 at a time the next day or that evening, depending on availability and the amount of cash I had at that time.  I just know I am going to have to be able to talk to others about what Im going through, and Im very glad I stumbled upon this site.

i hear im on subs. 2 years 5 years thats the docs fault. did you notice the docs. dont take insurance, they charge 125 to 175 some docs. charge initial visit 300, then monthly 125 up to 225,so they see you for 5 min. then around 16 to 24 patients per day 4 days a week, their not doctors their one step up from pharmacist, yes they will save your life, but, rehabcosts the same , do the math, rehab will detox you in 4 to 9 days,so its all up to you, subs, become a habbit but since their prescribed by a so called doctor, you legally get high if your on them for more than 3 months, you no by now if your asking the fun of the sub is turning into your old ways of being dependant on a chemical, now that you have this awareness to get off them, do it you can its tuff mentally if your not ready to surrender to subs, why ask us ,tell you doc. how you feel, and demand you get weened off them if you have to have someone give you you controlled dose recomended by a nutrial physician, good luck,

I too am a suboxone patient, having been addicted to opiates for well over ten years. Suboxone saved my life and ruined it at the same time. I have been on it for almost 4 years! My doc never told me the truth about this medicine and said the longer u take it, the better. When you say you are opiate free, well if your still using subs every day, you are far from opiate free. Subs are opiates that are 10 times stronger than morphine! The only difference is, subs have an antagonist in them that blocks ur receptors to keep u from getting high. I believe suboxone is a great drug to help addicts stop using, but only if you stay on them long enough to detox and then get off of them! Now I am just as addicted to the subs as I was the vicodin and because of the half life of subs and with me being on them for so long, my withdraws could last up to a year! I want off so bad, but I just can't stand the withdraws. So my advice, get off this med as soon as you can!

I have insomnia very bad also and had tried every med in the book! Finally in rehab my doc put me on seroquel. It's intended for depression, but a side effect is to induce sleep. I have taken 100mg every night for 4 years and I now sleep like a baby! 30 mins after the dose I fall asleep and wake up 8 or 9 hours later in the same position I fell asleep in! It's the only thing that has ever worked this well for me. The only down side is, I stay groggy for a while the next day. So ask ur doc about it and give it a try. Hope it helps!
