The last October, I experimented the worst headache ever. I was in the toilet and suddenly I had throbbing headache that I felt I was going to die. I am always loose, no constipation.. No signs of that just pounding headache. I took ibuprofen but didn't work, even pm pills to relive after some hours. Next day I felt my stomach weird like a pressure and my head started to hurt again . So I decided to see my doctor, who didn't know what was wrong, he thought could be a stroke, no light problem, well no migraine, and send me to ER for a ST Scan, everything was normal. They just gave me a shot for my headache, that worked. My just gave me propranolol daily, that helped me for some months, but now even with the pills I am experimenting that problem again and my vision too. Like see small pieces of glasses for 20 minutes and then my eyes hurt, or at night I see lightning and open my eyes and hurt too. I was looking information about this and I found that could be the  VAGUS NERVE.

He said:  I have concluded that a more careful review is needed to evaluate the probability that the primary problem is irritation or inflammation of the vagus nerve, incident to strain in the lower abdomen during bowel movement. Once the nerve is over stimulated, excited, or inflamed it may send signals to the brain which are perceived as strong pain.

Now I need to find more information about it and ask my doctor to see if it could be my problem....

Hi all... I have had the same problem with pounding head aches with BM... I may very well have discovered the cause... well in my case I think it is an allergic reaction to certain foods for instance eggs.  I kept having this problem about a year ago over and over again very scary.  Then it stopped and I did not have another problem until last month and then it suddenly dawned on me I had eaten an eggs.  I love them they just dont agree with me anymore so I avoid them except every once in a while.   They used to just cause me stomache cramps etc, but hum I think now this is a new symptom of eating them... Well anyway worth a thought...

One usually performs the Valsalva maneuver upon doing the "number 2". Headache and pain upon performing the Valsalva maneuver is also one of the main symptoms in Arnold-Chiari Malformation. I'm just saying, try not to hold breath while pushing to see if you get haedache the same.

Sounds like it may be food alergies causing this condition...Try keeping a journal of what foods you eat over the course of a week. Food usually takes about a day to process (or 2) so its not the food you just ate thats makeing you sick normally. May be fermentation too. My recommendations: Limit intake of wheat, sugars & fructoses and chicken (salmanella). Also milk & dairy products give me fits.Peanuts may also cause problems. Long story short: Eliminate suspect foods one at a time , keep a journal of what you ate for at least the last 3 days. Note any other physical problems you may be having simultanious to the other problem.

I've had my share of problems, &  I have been praying for all of you.

God Bless, Jeff

I don't know if anyone is still on this blog, but i had the same thing happen four days ago after a bowel movement! I've never had a migraine, but I've given birth, and this was almost as bad! It felt like someone was hitting me in the head with an axe (I had been throwing up, too). I called an ambulance, couldn't even walk due to the pain; they were wonderful - quick CAT Scan, pain and nausea meds right away, the lumbar puncture. All came back normal. I have been having little twinges of headache all week; this morning when i had a bm, same headache! In one way, I'm happy to know that it's probably not a stroke! It was really bad, but i was able to manage it. I took 2mg Ativan (which I've been on for years) and 800 mg of Ibuprofen. Don't know if it will help but I was so freakin scared! Now at least I have some info to give my primary on Monday! Thank God for the internet! And all of you! Judy

Wow...this is the first time I have seen anyone mentioning this during sex! Whenever I get these headaches, the excruciating pain goes away within a half hour or so but the remaining headache can last a few days. Please let me know if you have any answers.

I've been having this problem for many years. I'm 34 next week and when it happens all i can think about is am i going to "c**p out on the john". meaning die on the toilet... like elvis presley... Look i can add a little comedy to anything but i've had a lot of severe health problems at an early age. Including losing a foot of my colon to cancer and diverticulitis at the age of 25 and having six different surgeries to the point where my abdomen is disfigured from scar tissue and actually had to be cut open once to heal from the inside out and change the dressing and packing myself twice a day! But this is no laughing matter when it happens... It comes on like a freight train and i can't find any relief. IT's so intense that i clutch my head and rock back and forth.... I used to have this same thing happen during sex when i was a younger but only when i would be in a standing position or upright on my knees behind my gf never happened laying down either prone or suppine.  I honestly think about calling out for help when it happens but i feel embarassed for anyone to know. I just really wish that i knew what it was.... And now upon talking to my brother.. he has also began having it recently on the toilet.... my father brought it up in coversation... said the neurologist cleared him and couldnt find a problem... so i dont know if it's hereditary or what but like i said i have a high pain thresh hold but these headaches honestly feel like someone is stickin a bicycle pump in my head and pumpin it up while another person is chiseling at the nerves with a sledgehammer and an ice pick. It's very painful and terrifying and i hope theres is found a solution to this or a root to this problem..... i'll be praying about it.

This is amazing to read of so many people having the same problem I am having. I am a 53 year old woman in realitively good health. Started with a vengence on March 8, 2013. 3 episodes, as I call them, happened that day and was left exhausted for 2 days. Went to ER 3 days later the headache was so intense. CT, blood work and nothing. Found out I have a family history of anuerysms and when I had the next sever episode a few days later went to the ER again. After CT, more blood work and a lumbar puncture/blood, I was sent to another hospital that had a neurosurgeon on staff. 6 days later, CT's, MRI's, another lumbar puncture, an angiogram and bloodwork, and of course no episodes, they found "nothing wrong". When I got home resumed my normal dosage of pills including Lovastatin and the next day had 2 episodes. Stopped taking it but then about 4 days later tried it again, 2 more episodes the next day. My Dr. has taken me off of Lovastatin and doing a liver cleanse but is not convinced that this is the problem. She is also sending me to a GI to rule out a neuroendocrine tumor, this I pray is not the answer, but at this point it would be an answer, which would be good. I will keep you posted.

I have many health problems & after years of thinking about this, I've concluded that my headaches are directly related to my intestinal/ Colon  health..Must be food alergies, or imballance of intestinal entities, such as enzymes & or bacteria.

I don't have the same symptoms as above cases, but can certainly identify with & am praying for you all.

My advice: try eliminating one food group at a time from your diet.

Maybe try yogurt(sugar free) for intestinal ballance. Try eliminating wheat, sugar, caffein (one at a time).

I'll continue praying for you all.

FYI: I suffer from severe cramps & have discovered that theyre contributable to TEA, COFFEE & COLA'S.(diuretics) And yes, keep a bar of soap with you in bed , it does help eliminate cramps!

Best wishes for you (I've suffered too...) Jeff B.

Has anyone found out anything?  45 year old male. Feel the cramps in my stomach that you have before a loose bowel movement, then the intense pressure in my head and eyes. No real pain, just major major pressure. I thought I was going to have a stroke.

There must be someone who has found something?

I've been having this issue going on a year now! The first time I experienced it was during the onset of a stomach bug. My stomach began cramping hard and rumbling at the same time! I ran to the bathroom and while having a bowel movement, I was doubled over with stomach pain, started feeling nauseous, then my head begins pounding hard as if its about to explode!!!! The more I poop, the more intense the pounding gets! I honestly thought I was going to pass out because I began to feel light headed and faint! The pain occurs right in the crown top of my head! It kinda feels like my brain is swelling! It just happened to me a few minutes ago which made me google the symptoms, which brought me to this site! This doesn't occur every single time I have a soft bowel movement, only when it feels like I've got a stomach bug! That's the only way I can described it because the pain in my stomach is excruciating at the time, like it is now! Just to give a brief history of myself, I'm a 34 year old black woman, I'm 285 lbs. I suffer from extremely high blood pressure due to developing eclampsia during pregnancy! I have a history of severe migraines, so bad that at one time my neurologists had me giving myself pain medicine injections upon onset of my migraines because if they weren't stopped at initial onset, they would last up to 7 days! I also have problems with spinal spasms and spine pain from having 3 c-sections, the pain is from the needles being injected in my spine prior to surgery! I have moderate to severe asthma. I also have severe acid reflux, and sleep apnea! I'm sharing my history because I've read a lot of the comments and it seems that we are all different sizes and ages with different health issues that are experiencing the same thing which is weird! I'm also seeing that a lot of you have had some pretty extensive testing done and all results returned negative. This is pretty scary because this can be an undiscovered illness that doctors are just not able to detect yet through their fancy testing! The huge question is, is this condition fatal??? Because it literally feels like your going to die when it occurs, at least it does for me! I plan on mentioning it to my Pcp, I won't be disappointed if he doesn't have any direct answers after reading all of your comments of y'all that actually have shared it. Hopefully someone will be able to give us answers soon!
