If you find out any thing that will help use let me know...Shirley
I read through all of the posts and I was getting seriously worried. I had a root canal yesterday and after the numbness wore off, so did my sense of taste. I found that out when I started eating some yogurt. I was in a little pain, but I hadn't eaten all day so I wanted something substantive, but soft. I thought the yogurt had gone bad because it tasted bland and tinny. I checked the expiration date and it was fine, but I threw it out just in case. I decided to try a PB&J sandwich. The peanut butter had no taste and the jelly tasted sour and bitter. It was beginning to dawn on me that something was wrong. I opened a piece of chocolate and when that had a sour and bitter taste, I was really worried...and a little miffed too! I got online to see if anyone had any answers, and ran across this message board and several similar ones. Unfortunately everyone posting had the same or a similar problem, but no answers. What was really scary is that some were posting that the problem persisted for weeks, even months. The thought of not being able to taste sweet or salty for another day had me depressed, so going for another week or month was out of the question!
I decided I'd better try something. The first thing I did was pray. The second thing I did was go to my kitchen and pour a little sea salt into the palm of my hand. I stuck the tip of my tongue in the sea salt...nothing. I did it again and I got a faint salty taste. I decided to just go for it and lick the remaining salt in my hand. In about 10 minutes I popped another small piece of chocolate into my mouth and I could taste the sweet again. Just to be sure I opened up another container of yogurt and it tasted just fine. I think that was the best yogurt I've ever had!
I'm not sure if the sea salt will work for you, but I decided to post because I know if anyone else is out there experiencing the same thing, you'd probably be willing to try a few silly remedies before giving up. Oh yeah...it might have been the prayer too. It's certainly worth a try! :)
Hello everyone, it’s been a while since I last posted and reported here. I have had some ups and downs with tasting foods in general lately. Some days all I get is a bad chemical taste when I eat food. Most foods all taste the same and I also have that bad metal taste in my mouth at some intervals like others have shared with us here. It’s a terrible situation to be faced with when you can't smell or taste ones food. I have taken many tests for months and months. There is nothing physically wrong with me. The most recent changes I have had were a root treatment on my upper back chewing molar. I also have many old silver amalgam fillings on my bottom lower bite. I have recently seen some pretty horrifying footage of what happens when you bite on silver amalgam fillings as the mercury in them leach’s out vapours into your tissues. If you heat them up eating or drinking something hot, they leach for periods of up to one and a half hours. ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed***
Check out this link and see the gas vapours leaching from this old mercury filling. It’s shocking and very scary to say the least.
I'm pretty sure if we taste a metal taste, then we should be looking to see if we have these type fillings in our mouths? I can't believe that any health department worldwide would put this type of a leaching bomb that can cause multiple health issues further down the track in our lives. Just to inform you all, I have inquired to remove the silver amalgam fillings from my mouth and spoken to several dentists about it. I was horrified that most said they wouldn't remove them as they had to be removed by specialist in a specialist clinic. I spoke with one of these specialist clinics to be told they would only remove two fillings at a time and replace with new white fillings. I asked why, and I was told that some people have strong reactions when all are removed at the same visit. Some of my teeth would not take another drilling out, repacing a new white filling; therefore it would have to be extracted, or go for multiple root treatments costing thousands and thousands in order to remove the silver mercury filling. This reaction has now informed me of how toxic this material actually is, and it’s in our mouths close to our brains. This news to me has been shocking and very alarming!
usually your taste buds will regenerate within 4 to 6 weeks. Suck some ice for the first few days and keep off the hot fluids as it will take longer for them to regenerate. Take some lemmon and squeeze that into your water for a few days as thats great for creating a good Ph- level in the mouth. Hope y0ou find this useful. Cheers for now.
