I'm glad to see that i am not the only one with this problem. Just wish i new if the magnesium really worked...i really don't wanna have to go to the doctor over this. $20 exam just for the doctor to shrug and turn you away just doesn't seem worth it sometimes. The twitch is in my upper rib cage and yes it does feel like a baby is kicking. I just don't understand...?
I am so glad I am not alone! I think my doctor thinks i am crazy. Mine started 2 months ago on the left side of my stomach about equal to my belly button. As time has gone on it has moved around my abdomin to different areas. It is not painful just annoying! My doctor asked me to discribe the pain. When I explained that it wasn't painful it was more like a baby kicking he just looked at me and said well you aren't pregnant. I know that! I just want to know what it is! After a CT scan and an abdominal ultrasound still no answers. But after reading all of the posts on here it makes me feel a little better. I am going to try the vitamins and get in better shape and see how it goes.
I have the same symptoms and it DOES feel like a baby kicking LOL. Very annoying. I've had digestive problems (IBS) for a couple of years and take Previcid for acid reflux. I think the twitching is attributed to this as well. I've gone to the emergency room for abdominal pains before and blood tests showed low potassium. The doctor attributed this to chronic diarreha (spelling??) due to the IBS. Take care everyone.
Listen to me please, this is not normal. These twitches are called fasciculations, and shouldn't happen in a normal, healthy person. It is not trapped gas. It is a neurological problem that only happens in advanced neuromuscular diseases like ALS or MS. The fact that they are in the abdomen as well, is especially worrying. Get a neurologist, especially if you have these twitches in your arms, legs and tongue. Not good, and please ignore doctors who don't know what they are talking about.
Yes, I agree with the last post by Guest. It cannot be pushed off as simple trapped gas. It could in fact be a neurological problem The abdomen is not a normal area that twitches, like your eye ;-)
Some tests will be done to rule out MS, if need be, but it is not something you want to put off or avoid. Best to be safe than sorry.

I think I've felt this before, but it doesn't really bother me, it's just strange.
im 18 yrs old and Ive had the muscle spasms and twitching for about 2 months now..it would start on the left side of my stomach and sometimes right under my belly button. when laying flat down i can see the muscles moving around on that left side (which does resemble a baby kicking) there is no pain associated with the twitching but it gets verrrrryyyy annoying. sometimes when i lay in other positions the muscles twitch worse. there is a slight protruding of the stomach when i stand but i'm 100% sure i'm not pregnant...it feels hard and i feel full at the area of the spasms... they come and go...ive tried acid related medicines and they havent worked...i will give the potassium and magnesium a try. this forum is very helpful. thanks.
Wow... I had no idea so many other people experienced this.. I have only had these symptoms for a few days and can't imagine putting up with for months.. it is a slight twitching in my upper abdomen / mid-left.. no pain.. just a fluttery annoyance. I am mid 30's, thin, I exercise a couple times a week, but by no means am I an exercise freak. I feel good when I make it to Zumba twice a week. ;-) .. I think I will make an appointment with the Dr. just to be safe, but in the meantime I will start taking my daily multivitamin.. pretty sure it has magnesium. Thanks everyone.
Have any of you dealt with consipation? The "baby kicking" feeling can be due to spasms from constipation. Try eating more fiber, drinking more water, and be careful not to over eat (especially starches).
I've started experiencing this a few months ago, same spot, and yes it def. feels like baby kicking. Havnt worried about it to much but the past couple of days it will go all day long, then the next day not at all, then next day all day long....like every 20 seconds it does a lil twitch/spasm...non painful. Father has MS so I'm making an appointment to get checked out, hopefully that is not it because the past few months have been the most stressful of my life, so i'd like to say its nerves/stress, because thinkin about it even seems to make it worse...I'll post back here once i see the doc.
I appreciate the original question and all of the replies - I started having this condition recently and all of the "medical" information listed conditions with dire consequences! What I'm experiencing seems very much like what the rest of the responders here have described and your information provides a more realistic and benign answer. Thanks.
PS - As a father of 3 I now have a much better understanding of what a kicking baby might feel like!

I am so glad to hear I am not the only one with a twitching stomach !! I am also over weight and have had a very stressful couple of months. I think it is stress but I don't know what to do about it, stress just doesn't go away... %-)
I also have had this symptom for a while now. It seems that it all started after having gall bladder surgery. At first it was only in that area and felt like when you twist a towel and let it go. Was in the area of my gall bladder. This is no longer the case and is more like a baby kicking as you said. Yes I am over weight, but dont see how this can be related.
I have the same issue. Always in my stomach on the right side almost to my ribs. I spoke with a gastro and a neuro. They both were not that concerned. First off, It isn't MS or ALS because those are most often associated with weakness in the extremities and numbness. SO DON'T FREAK OUT! Your probably fine and the number 1 cause of fasciculations is anxiety/stress and if it is a disease, then it is more common to be BFS (Benign Fasciculation Syndrom) which is completely Benign and posses no more risk of turning into a serious neuro condition that not having BFS. The thing is, you probably have a vitamin deficiency somewhere along the line, so the trapped gas is causing you to have fasciculations in the stomach easier than anywhere else and is compounded by your anxiety. Eat Yogurt daily for the gas and the vitamins, take a multi-vitamin with calcium and magnesium, and don't stress. It is a good idea to see your docs as always and if your sexually active, get tested as some STD's can cause twitching or fasciculations, even though not generally for years after infected. Take a deep breath and know it is more than likely anxiety and nutrition. Cheers :-)
I'm having this feeling as we speak lol but its normal. Well not exactly normal, but it started today, a day after i did some hardcore ab exercises. It's just the muscles spasming. From hat I've researched Magnesium will cure it.
