Anyone, get this same thing happen to them after consuming evn small amounts of vinegar..? So I am an avid eater of vinergar and cucumbers or vinegar and lettuce, shortly afterward I get a stuffy nose and congested head. I associated this together a few months ago but was in denial of me having an allergy to vinegar, I noticed it happened every time after eating italian dressing. I soon narrowed it down to the vinegar. Wow what a deal. I have gone 30+ years without knowing I have this small allergy to vinegar, anyone else have the same thing, and what are your symptoms..?

I seem to have an allergy to vinegar.  Whenever I eat vinegar or salad dressing or even mayonaise my tongue will ache like a tooth ache for days.  started choking when I ate dressing.  Now its worse with this aching tongue.  Also my tongue fells fuzzy and I cant get it to go away.
Yes I have allergies and think I am allergic or have a reaction to vinegar, it causes a very dry chest cough and stuffed nose am finding out, I also have a reaction(not an allergy) to wheat flour it causes what you are getting a stuffy nose and blocked sinuses and flem in my throat so have gone gluten free for three years now.
i find that even thinking about viniger makes me sweat. my reaction to viniger is never so bad - just sweating which passes within minutes. But i find it incredible that just looking at a pickle jar will make me sweat. i have beads all over my nose and my forehead just typing this. It's all rather strange. I love pickled beatroot as well, will still keep eating it and putting up with the sweats - it's a mild price to pay. Do feelsorry for others who get really sick though.
Hi, I thought I was the only one in the world who suffered with these symptoms. I am finding that lately I am also breaking out into hot sweats and this feeling like I am overheating on a more frequent basis. It used to only happen when I would eat anything that seemed to contain vinegar, but now just the thought of it seems to cause the same reaction...And as strange as this sounds... I am not currently sitting with the fan blasting on my face to keep the temperature down, as it is just very uncomfortable.
I think i might have the same thing. Ate at the pub last night. First the burger then the chips then the salad. As soon as i ate the first tomato my stomach started to hurt then the rest of my chest and then i felt hot and dizzy. I made it to the front door of the pub and passed out cold on the footpath. Lucky my friends were there to help me. I drank one beer only for those who might be synical. I have never experienced this before when eating dressings or the likes but im a bit worried now. My friend reckon i should get a check up.... hmmm?
I am just having a reaction after eating vinegar. I can eat it at dinner and be fine, but about 12 hours later my lips swell up and get very dry. The reaction also makes my mouth extremely sensitive. I can only consume very bland items after this reaction starts, because my mouth is so sensitive. It is almost like my mouth had been scrubbed raw. Soda, fruit, spicy foods, especially more vinegar sets my mouth on fire. I'm just figuring this out because 2 of the last 3 times I've eaten balsamic vinegar this lip swelling and raw mouth happens. It does seem to lessen or eliminate the reaction if the vinegar it's well mixed with oil (like for a salad). The oil must reduce the acidity of the vinegar...only part that makes much sense. Glad to know I'm not alone in this allergy!! Thanks for posting everybody. Please be safe with your allergies and get yourself an epipen, it may just save your life!!! Take care everybody! P.S. I do not work for the epipen manufacturer.
The same exact thing happens to me. I eat it, it touches my tounge and an instant reaction of heat runs through my face, its only the surface. Its amazing that vinegar can have that kind of reaction. Itd be interesting to know, your ancestry and your features (for example I am Irish and I have red hair). Ive often been told I am hypersensitive, and that might be hightened with certain foods that contain high levels of certain things, vinegar based dressings, sulfites in nuts and various peanut mixes.
I have been suffering with this as well. Although I never been professionally diagnosed, I did visit a G.P. some years back who sluffed it off IMO. It started after eating mexican food 15 years ago. A torta to be exact. 20 to 30 minutes after eating, I swallowed and immediately felt like a thousand bees were stinging the back and sides of my throat. It got worse every swallow and peaked at about 20 minutes, began subsiding and was gone in about 30 minutes. This happened nearly daily for months and then off and on for the last 15 years. Now, it mostly happens when I eat BBQ sauce or any kind of sauce i guess. Sometimes in things I never expect but I have found that it happens every time I eat a certain chains, I want my baby back ribs. Within the last year the symptoms have worsened and the effected area has expanded to swelling and severe itching of the ears along with the previous symptom of stinging in the throat and a feeling of swelling throughout the throat and nasal canal. Scary, I plan to see a doctor soon. I have not had breathing issues which would be the end all be all I suppose in one way or the other. I wonder if there is anything that can be taken for such an allergy. For instance, Lactose intolerant sufferers can take lactaid during and prior to consuming problematic foods, because I sure do love them baby back wibs and don't want to give em up.
I found that Mouthwash gargled gets rid of the stinging throat. Sometimes it takes a couple gargles but it relieves the pain. Hope this helps.
I get a very hot tingling head when i eat salt and vinegar crisps
Thank you for your post!! Ate some sliced cucumbers with white vinegar added the other night and I had the same reaction of feeling suffocated. My sinuses closed up first until I was mouth breathing then it got worse where it was like trying to suck air in through a wet bath cloth being held over my mouth. That lasted about six hours. Never again.
Yes, this has happened to me after having vinegar and also after having a sip of red wine. It felt like my throat closed, couldn't take in a breathe for about 5 seconds
My son is 20 and has recently identified that when he eats anything with vinegar such as salt an vinegar / pickled onion crisps he sweats on his head almost instantly. It goes away and isn't a worry as such, however I was curious and decided to search the internet and cannot find anything other than many blogs of others similar experiences. Now I have a bee in my bonnet and wish to know why.
This is so strange..lately whenever I eat things with lots of vinegar, ie. mustard-my head gets totally flushed...resulting in erect nipples! No joke. I'm a 42 year old woman and I've noticed this very odd thing only recently. It's like a hotness that starts at the top of my head and travels down...to my nipples! So strange..
I have an allergy to vinegar-- but in reality-- it's to grapes. I'm totally fine with potatoe or apple cider vinegar but red and white wine vinegar no good. I don't have an allergy, per se, but i get a rash on my chin and it is also know as psoriasis of the pustule variety. I can't have dressings or salsa or those lovely white wine sauces. miserable. Good luck.
