Anyone, get this same thing happen to them after consuming evn small amounts of vinegar..? So I am an avid eater of vinergar and cucumbers or vinegar and lettuce, shortly afterward I get a stuffy nose and congested head. I associated this together a few months ago but was in denial of me having an allergy to vinegar, I noticed it happened every time after eating italian dressing. I soon narrowed it down to the vinegar. Wow what a deal. I have gone 30+ years without knowing I have this small allergy to vinegar, anyone else have the same thing, and what are your symptoms..?

I was awakened at 5AM this morning with my usual celiac reaction of stabbing heart/chest/upper abdomen pain, rushing then slowed heart rate, muscle convulsions/spasm/shakes mostly in the legs, numbness in my left arm, clenched jaw, and blurry vision with light headedness. Its scary, because these same symptoms landed me from my doctors office into the ER a couple of times with them thinking I was having a heart attack. After MANY tests and then given benedryl, the symptoms subsided in an hour. The only thing I can think it was this time was the bulsamic vinegar I had last night. I live by a STRICT gluten/corn/soy and other nut/seed free diet. I wonder if there was "caramel coloring" in there that was not on the label or maybe I reacted to the sulfites or grapes? Who knows, but I am now adding that onto the list of NO NOs!
I once started on a vinegar diet and my tongue and mouth got pretty bad. My tongue was all red and raw. it hurt a lot. I stop of course. After many months I have started to eat a lot of salads with Balsamic vinegar and my mouth and tongue are getting very sensitive and the inside of my mouth is a little swollen so I bite myself easily. I think I'm allergic to vinegar.
Malt has gluten in it. Try apple cider vinegar, preferably organic. Good luck!
Hello Martha,My girlfriend has been suffering with the very same problem for the past 2 years and we think we have finally narrowed it down to wine vinegar. Trying to get to the bottom of it with the doctors is a nightmare!! I was wondering if you had any success with cure/avoidance as it seems to be in all sauces!! Cheers

Vinegar is made from molds. People that have mold allergies can have a reaction to vinegar. The one vinegar that is different from others is apple cider vinegar which seems to be tolerated well. I am allergic to molds, lost a part of my jaw to a mold and break out in sores when I have oil/vinegar dressing. The exception ot apple cider vinegar which I seem to tolerate OK. If I remember correcetly, the mold aspergillus is part of the fermentation process to make vinegar. This mold can be found in soy sauce and other manufactured processes under the label "citric acid." You may think that citric acid is citric fruit based, but no....it's the mold aspergillus. You will be amazed the amount of molds that are re-configured and used in food manufacaturing process. We know about wines and cheeses, but prepared foods almost always has mold as part of its process to market.
Same here but also when I eat ketchup, any salty things, sour candy is the worst by faaaaar lol It starts on the top of my head getting really hot, then nose and face sweating, almost instantly.
that is what happens to me, I thought I was nuts because neither my allergist nor gastro doctor could understand why this would happen!
I love cucumbers, I love tomatoes. About 2 years ago I began a series of episodes of hives. I blamed it on everything from my fiancés dog, to my choice of shampoos or soaps; I even went through many sleepless nights, up, searching with a flashlight, in the middle of the night to make sure that I wasn’t being eaten alive by bedbugs. It sounds hilarious but, it is oh soooooo true. I even thought I might be allergic to my fiancés sweat. I was making EVERBODYS life miserable because I could not image what was wrong with me. Eventually I went to the allergist then the dermatologist and he took a biopsy of what appeared to be a lesion. When the test came back inconclusive they sent me a letter stating that I "must have" lupus and that they might determine if I did with further testing. My mom’s best friend died from lupus, I know a lot about it and I DON'T HAVE LUPUS. I am still playing this guessing game, it is a ridiculous nightmare. I have stopped eating tomatoes, cucumbers (which I eat with vinegar), and anything else that seems to have vinegar in it. Yesterday, my fiancé and I left the house early and we were gone most of the day. For some reason I was extremely thirsty and asked him to stop at the store and get me the largest bottle of water he could find. Instead, he came out with the largest cup of soda (sprite) that he could find. Throughout the day I gulped down the sprite in attempts to quench my thirst. Last night I began to itch fiercely. I awoke this morning to find so many hives in one area that they are all piled on top of each other and they are fiery red, (and I am a medium brown skinned black woman). Sooooooo, here I am again, back on the internet looking for what the blip could be going on with me. It seems recently though that whenever I get too much acid in my body, this happens. That means, no soda, no orange juice, no ketchup, no pickles, no this, no that, yada, yada, yada. Could the acid such as the acid in the vinegar or the soda be the culprit? Does any of this sound familiar to ANYBODY?
I almost died tonight from balsamic vinegar!
After eating and loving it for years, I opened a new bottle, and licked a taste to judge this new brand. Instantaneously my throat completely closed. I couldn't draw any breath at all. Could not swallow. I knew I had to try something so although I didn't know how I could swallow it - I took a mouthful of honey iced tea I had sitting there -- and was amazed I was able to swallow it and got some air through right after. I was wheezing and gagging but at least getting air. It took about 10 min before I could get any sound out and now, hours later, still feel like I have a lump in my throat. And I'm scared to death. It was the most frightening experience ever.
