Honestly, this sounds more like you were allergic to something where you first lived.

Hey, I too suffer from this and havent really investigated because of my insurance issues. I do believe it is caused by too much phlegm, especially when it all seems to pile in your stomach while yoy sleep. This routine helps me: I wake up, and depending on the amount of nausea that morning, I either run to the bathroom or linger in bed. If my stomach just feels slightly uneasy, I eat crackers right away, no beverages. It feel like your stomach needs to soak up some of the mucus and bile. Toast is good as well. If I start to feel better, I proceed with my day, if not, I usually try to help throw it up, since I feel my stomach can't tolerate the amount of phlegm in it causing intense nausea. I also eat right before bed, and I dont drink many fluids before bed. Maybe a sandwich, toast, etc. I feel it leaves enough in my stomach so that when I wake up it's not so uneasy. I hope this helps ! :)

I'm sorry for everyone who is suffering from this problem, but glad there are others who understand how awful it is.  I'm in my early 50's and have had this problem for about 10 years. It doesn't happen every day but it is horrible when it does.  I do not smoke, I eat a pretty healthy diet and I get moderate exercise. I do have nasal allergies and more recently a nagging clogged feeling in one ear - not caused by wax. I take allergy meds and have an air purifier in my room. I want to rip out my carpet but can't afford to do it right now. I  also have an overwhelming amount of stress in my life, it's been one bad thing after another and now that I think of it, the mucus and throwing up problem started soon after the first event in the ongoing chain. I think the problem is a sign/symptom of all rhe other problems combined.  Unfortunately I can't escape the stress.  But after reading all these posts I know I need to make time for myself and try to manage the stress better.  Good luck to you all.

I have suffered from the same issue for months. I cleaned all the dust off my ceiling fan, cleaned all of the dust from under my bed and atop my furniture in the bedroom, and steamed my pillows and mattress. I took a Benadryl tablet before bed....woke up without this issue for the first time in quite a while. I did take digestive enzymes as well, before bed. I took advice from many replies. Will see if this continues to work.....

I have had the throwing up mucous/phlegm problem for over two years now. I usually have it most after eating. I eat small portions and don't throw up the food. I first start coughing and trying to swallow the phlegm build up. When I can't stand it anymore, I have to throw it up. Never any food. Only thick mucous. I take an allergy pill everyday. Nothing works. It gets better when I travel or go to different locations and I will get it again when I come back to Oklahoma. I guess I will try allergy testing. I have had an upper GI and all is well.

Exactly this, I always wake up with "a lump in my throat" and the first hack hits that gag button and I'm a vomit comet.

Hi. I've had this issue since the age of 15 (I'm now 40). I only feel sick after waking and generally, the earlier I have to get up the worse it is. If I lie in I often don't feel sick at all. It's been happening for so long now that I kind of have to do it to feel cleansed. I do sometimes have blood clots in the vomit or when I blow my nose but that's more when I have a cold too. I now suffer with acid reflux but did not have this when I was younger. Sometimes I'm wheezy at night, sometimes not. If I eat late at night I feel more sick in the morning. Sometimes I can feel the mucas dripping down the back of my throat at night but not all the time. Sometimes I have a frog in my throat for days that I cannot clear. The symptoms vary so much it is hard to determine a cause but I feel there are a variety of contributing factors.

I usually don't throw up, but gag and have to get rid of phlegm - my head is just full of mucous - I blow my nose constantly in the morning and often have a bunch of sneezing. Been to several docs but all they want to do is give you a script for something to dry you up, I want a cure no a cover up.

Some background, have had allergy tests done a while ago, some grasses and queen palm, nothing serious. Plus my husband and I now travel for about half the year, we have been all over the country and Europe, the problem goes with me. I use a Netti bottle XClear nasal spray - it helps some, but nothing stops the amount of c**p I produce each and every morning - there has to be a reason. Also at home I sleep with a pillow under the mattress so my head is not completely down. There has to be a reason for this. I went on a very strict diet for several years, no dairy etc. - no change.

I am at my wits end with this, I hope someone has some new ideas. I don't want to have to take pills for this. We also bought the hypo cover for our mattress, again no change. I thought being in dryer climates might help but it also did the opposite. I have always had to blow my nose a lot, even throughout the day I sneeze and blow my nose, but of course it is much, much worse in the morning and it does not seem to be what other people are like. I am never without tissues.

My 17 yr old son gets woke up around 4 am every morning by this. He doesn't usually eat right before bed, isn't overweight(he's quite thin), doesn't eat or drink the same things everyday, doesn't drink much milk, doesn't take any medicines, doesn't smoke cigarettes but does smoke marijuana before bed to help him sleep (but has for along time before this started) . Have you found out anything yet?
