white chunks on tonsils

I have been experiencing a recurrence of white chunks on my tonsils. They often cause discomfort to me. Also their texture resembles the white part of a popcorn kernel. I wonder what those white chunks are caused by. Do they maybe indicate some serious illness?

this problem is widespread obviously and there has got to be an end all cure for it. my doctor told me like im sure he told everyone else here "that its normal for some people to have and that it is no big deal." but long behold it is a big deal, and frankly... i am sick and tired of these things. the breath issue can and will destroy your personal life. confidence is thrown out of the window with this problem and everyone here who reads and understands this knows what i am talking about. it seems like the only way to resolve this problem is to remove the tonsils where these things stem from. I want to hear from somebody who has suffered from this embarrassing problem, but got their tonsils removed for it. i wouldl ike to know if that solved the problem and under what condition did you get the ok from the doctor to do so? The gentlemen whose 15 year old had his tonsils removed hopefully recovered and successfully eliminated the problem.

8 Days ago, at age 34, I got my tonsils removed because of tonsil stones. I never had recurring tonsillitis but my doc said removal was the only true solution to stones. I started getting them about 13 years ago. Overtime I got more and more of them. My breath tasted bad to me and smelled bad to everyone else. When I had one I knew it, even if I couldn't see it. I'd become obsessed with trying to get them out whether I could or couldn't see them. I'd even pull away from my husband because I was so self concious. Chewing gum became a career and I just felt crappy about myself. I've been attractive my whole life; pay alot to get my hair and nails done and put alot of effort into my clothes etc. but what good is it if my breath stank like tonsil stones! I should mention that I am in sales and talk to people all day long. Right now I am in pain but this shall pass and I look forward to a life of not worrying about tonsil stones! I should mention that my ENT's assistant had her tonsil removed only because of tonsil stones too.

Im 17 years old and have the same problem. I have reoccuring tonsillitis and constantly have to miss school (I am supposed to go to school tomorrow but I have tonsillitis again!). I also get tonsil stones because my tonsils are huge and have tons of holes in them. I get the tonsil stones alot and it is terrible. I beleive I will be going to the doc tomorrow to set up and appointment to have my tonsils removed. That will stop my reoccuring tonsillitis and tonsil stones.

I have had white balls of plaque in my tonsils for almost 4 months now. I found that if i tape 2 tooth pics together i can push these plaque balls out. I feel them in there and they keep coming. I have also noticed ever since i saw that first ball of plaque my throat has been hurting non stop. Help please.
i use the welded end of tweezers to get them out. i agree it is very annoying
I too have the same problem with white particles being in one of my tonsils. I get as much out as I can and then put a q-tip in peroxide which I then put back into the pores of that tonsil. It fizzes which I guess means that it is killing whatever infection is in there. I heard that gargling with peroxide once a day eliminates this problem totally also although I just do the q-tip method every few days.
does it make a difference if you are a smoker?
Wow that's a great idea! I just had my wisdom teeth removed so I can just use the syringe I had from that surgery...Thanks! No wonder my husband always says my breath is kicking! I have to brush at work in the middle of the day just so I'm not offensive to my coworkers. :$ I wish they would just go away!
Wow, I for sure thought I was one of the few unlucky folks to be strickin with those nasty, smelly, tonsils stones! I'm 25 and have noticed them for about 6 months now. They stink so bad! Whenever I would taste one in there, I would take a toothpick and dig them out. In between gagging, it actually worked. But I am now sick and tired of them stinking up my breath and my life and will be getting my tonsils removed asap! Also hate the fact my doc said they are no big deal!? Probably why his breath smelled so bad!
I'm in my 30s, I've been getting these things for years. I have always wondered what the heck they were since nobody ever talks about them.
My experience with them has been very different. Yes they are gross and smell, but my breath is never bad. In fact I never have bad breath. Also I have noticed some link between tonsil stones and having a cold. Or perhaps it's experiencing cold like symptoms. When I work these things out, cold like symptoms seem to go away. So whenever I feel like I have a cold, I try to massage these things out with my FINGERS. They don't always come out right away but after a day or two usually they come out. You guys doing it with bowie knives or whatever are gonna hurt yourselves! lol
Yes I've had these too since I was a teenager. i find cocktail sticks and a bright light helps!! I usually know when I've got them because I can feel them scraching on the back of my tongue. I agree the smell vile and are a nuisence but if you can get of them by removal and keep them under control its not so bad - at least you can pick them out!!
I use a bobby pin to get them out... works like a charm. The loop hooks right around them so I can dig and pull them out easily.
I recently found these same white spots on my throat. When I googled it, the first thing I found was a forum of many others with this problem who believe they have the cause pinpointed. They believe the cause is MSG, and it totally makes sense if that is what caused mine. They showed up right after I bought a bunch of cheap foods (budgeting) such as Cambell's and Hamburger Helper - both have lots of MSG. So after I read this I cut those items high in MSG out of my diet and they have gone away.
One lady on the forum has written a book about the problems MSG causes.
Hope this helps!
man i thought i was the only person like this.. i dont have bad breath but the white stuff does smell really bad.. but man i dont wanna get my tonsils removed.. and i do NOT want to live with this..
I've had my tonsils out and this problem still occurs. It does drive you crazy. I've tried using hydrogen peroxide as a mouthwash which helps. I also brush and floss daily. I'm going to try adding fresh parsley to my diet because I've heard chewing that helps. If anyone has any more tips, please share!
