white chunks on tonsils

I have been experiencing a recurrence of white chunks on my tonsils. They often cause discomfort to me. Also their texture resembles the white part of a popcorn kernel. I wonder what those white chunks are caused by. Do they maybe indicate some serious illness?

I get tons of those white things from my tonsils..it is so gross..and my breath has NEVER been so BAD....I am 40..and have had tonsil stones all my life..since I was in 2nd grade!!! Now they are so so bad and numerous, I know I will go to the doctor this week and work on getting approval for removing the tonsils! My kids won't even come near me..they say they can smell my breath when I walk by them! Tonight I kept prying into my tonsil and got over 30 of those white things out..until my tonsil bleed profusely...and then more white things came out when I poked a metal thing into my tonsil where there was a hole that I opened and dug out many more white tonsil stones! I need my tonsils..or at least the right side tonsil removed!
i have the white chunk things in my tonsils for years & my tonsils actually bleed when i remove them plus my tonsils swell up & my ears start to hurt until i pop them out.i went to the ent & he said i can try gargling with salt water or have my tonsils out so im having them out 2/23 & im scared! i only took a week off from work & i hope that is enough.
I use wooden skewers works great!
I didn't realize how many other people have this problem! I think it might be genetic because my sister, cousin, and I all get it. My cousin had her tonsils removed already. My sister gets the white spots once every 3 months or so, me, its all the time! But I think I get tonsillitis as well every time I get the spots. My throat is very sore right now, and it hurts to swallow. Not to mention the size of my tonsils! Their huge! I have an obsession with picking the spots out. Mine also bleed from me picking at them. Today when I saw a white spot in my tonsil, I used a Q-tip to pick it out like I usually do, and a light yellow puss just came out. I wasn't sure if this meant I have some sort of infection or something. Last time I went to the doctor because of tonsillitis, she just made me feel stupid saying that this is no big deal, and it will go away on its own. Well I have been getting these sore throats and those spots for over 4 years now. Not to mention, I have had really bad strep growing up. My problem is even if the doctor ok'd to have them removed, I don't know that I would want to. I'm not a fan of surgery, or medicine. I wish there was a natural way to stop this. Any advise?
I find that squeezing or pushing on the skin around the hole can help push the puss like stuff out. Kinda like a zit.
I had these in my left tonsil - suffered with bad taste in back of throat for 3 years but only discovered i had tonsil stones about 4 months ago when for some reason i opened my mouth to take a look. Never even heard of them until i googled it. Anyways i went straight to consultant and asked him to remove them which he agreed (im 30). That was almost four weeks ago and so far no bad taste so think/hope its cured bad breath. Definately worth removing tonsils if you suffer from stones - there is no other way of getting rid, you can push them out all you want but there will always be some left and the breath will always smell rancid because of them !
I have the same white chunks in my tonsils. When I went to the doctor he said that it could be snott deposits from post nasal drip.
Hi, I'm thirteen years old and I unfortunately have tonsil stones as well. I'm happy to know I'm not some type of freak, and that other people get them! This has ruined relationships of mine, i know this is probably stupid to some people, but the only solution to me was to get my tonsils removed. I would get everything i could to try to pick them out because it is very embarrassing!
Those "tonsil stones" are not a tonsil problem, per se, but the strange result of upper respiratory symptoms. They (the "stones") are officially called "exudate", I believe, and are essentially dried mucus from post-nasal drip that accumulates in the nooks and crannies of the tonsils. If you stop post-nasal drip (e.g., by avoiding food allergens, treating environmental allergies, using a neti pot to cleanse your nose regularly), then you can eliminate exudate and that nasty scratchy feeling in the back of your throat! using a syringe in the back of your throat like that is very dangerous as you could seriously injure yourself. I believe you were meaning a water pick. But please dont use a syringe to do this.
I had my tonsils out when i was 21 for this very reason. I am 37 now. I used to use my finger to pop out the nasty white clumps back then. There was no internet-so no one I knew had this problem, but my ent doctor suggested removing them as elective surgery. Best decision ever made. Now my daughter who is 10 is having the same issue. Have the tonsils removed while your young!! Having them out when you are older is extremely uncomfortable and painful. Finally nice to hear I wasnt the only only one with this bizarre problem.
i just found i had this problem, never realized it before today the best way i could find was just using my toothbrush it made me gag but it wasn't like trying to feel my way around with a small object like a toothpick or pair of tweezers
well, hot diddly..i have the same problem, i had a small white cottage cheese pebble looking object that was attached to the lower part of my tonsil - it was very uncomfortable, and i couldnt see it. i couldnt get it off, a few days passed and it finally came out while i was waterpicking my teeth. i grabbed the little weasel and squeezed it to a pulp between my fingers. what do you know? it smelled like a 4000 year old fecies aged inside of a brick of provolne cheese. i knew something was wrong, i brush my teeth twice a day everday .and waterpick all my teeth before bedtime. thank god for google search, i thought i had rabies is there a cure for this disease? my tonsils look like swiss cheese.
WATERPICK!!! guest, you are a genius!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i thought i was the only one with this problem!!! i thought i was dying...
apparently you can have your tonsils lazered to smooth out the holes, then you don't get the stones. I have them and HATE them too! I have started mixing up really salty water (1 teaspoon to about 20ml) and using that on a q tip, this helps kill off bacteria as well as remove them.
