white chunks on tonsils

I have been experiencing a recurrence of white chunks on my tonsils. They often cause discomfort to me. Also their texture resembles the white part of a popcorn kernel. I wonder what those white chunks are caused by. Do they maybe indicate some serious illness?

A syringe does not have the needle on it. You can buy syringes at any drug store. It won't hurt you to use it.

I have these chunks also and I have been getting them more and more often. It only makes sense that the tonsil would be deteriorating by itself since the holes seem to be getting bigger. They are not painful. I have gotten very good at maneuvering them out by moving the back of my tongue in and up and forward fashion. Also, sometimes I just grab a toothpick or Q-tip.

I'm 24 and I've had this same problem since I was like 12. I liken them to the inside of a kernel of corn and they do smell horrible, yes. They used to be bothersome to me when I was younger and I seemed to get them a lot more often than I do now. I only get them once in a great while and the only reason I notice them is that it feels funny when I swallow sometimes. They usually get knocked out when I eat something. When I was younger, it was a lot harder to get them to come out. I found that using a straw worked because the plastic was thin and the end of the straw had a hole in it that was usually the right diameter to fit around the "chunk". It also worked to bite the end of the straw and use it flattened as well. You have to be careful, though, because you can hurt yourself. Don't dig too deep! Sometimes when I dug at it, it'd disappear back in its hole (God this sounds gross). If you swallow a couple times, it'll pop back up to the surface.
My doctor didn't think it was worth getting my tonsils taken out. She was right. Over the years, the problem practically went away.
Good luck!

I too keep getting these little things. They're annoying! I get 'em every once in a while. I've tried & tried to remove them. Here's what's worked & what hasn't: Poking 'em doesn't work. They just scoot further back into the hole. Stabbing 'em doesn't work either. Being gentle-doesn't work either. What DOES work is this: A "scraping" action.
I use something long & slender-the other day a rolled up magazine cover rolled veeery very thin. Prior to that I used a straw, but I had cut the end of the straw w/a pair of scissors so the end of the straw was beveled (like a blood drawing needle), and then I used the scissors to trim the point down to a bit of a curve (so I wouldn't poke myself). Then I used a scraping motion and a little bit rough, and this usually causes the little thing to pop out & then one can simply hack it up like a cat w/a furball. Lol. Gross, but functional. I vote for the straw.
I'mmmm not so suuure that the chunks are food actually. I'mmm thinking that this is the lymphatic system dumping out gunk. The white mass may very well be old white blood cells that have "dogpiled" a bacteria?
I just got rid of one the other day and a 2nd popped right up. Now there's a 3rd. Then again, I've been feeling sick a lot lately (I pick up every cold which goes around, and additionally I work in hospitals w/a LOT of patients & on a LOT of Floors). Perhaps my body's getting rid of the last of the gunk that's inside me. I've got a feeling that they coincide with my colds. I'm feeling better & now they start to appear, hence the gunks getting out of me.
I'm not going to get rid of my tonsils. I'm very attached to them-or they to me!

Gargle with straight apple cider vinegar for a few days.
I use a waterpik, it works good
I get these nasty white things too, I thought it was just me, but ahh, support. I want my tonsils taken out because of it, they don't hurt but I'm easily grossed out to the point where I gag and I can feel them, which grosses me out. I started getting them when I throat hurt a few months ago, I thought they were just puss pockets like you get on your throat when you have step- throat. I got another one last night and removed it nicely. But now I have another one, and I'm not sure where it is, I just know if feels really disgusting. My gag reflex is only really bad when I'm grossed out or brushing the back of my tongue so it's easy to get them out but they are so disgusting! I want them gone so bad. I also thought it was just like my body getting out gunk, my tonsils are also becoming very hole-y. That doesn't bother me though, just what they fill up with is soo gross!
This is called cryptic tonsils.. I had mine removed because of this reason...not because of bed breath or taste, but because your tonsils are holding bacteria. And regardless of how many antibiotics you are on the bacteria never goes away (think of you tonsils like a sponge filter) Finally after years of Sore (not severely) throat, the ENT removed my tonsils. I RECOMMEND HAVING THIS DONE!!! I have had very few sore throats since they removed those germ holders from me....
I pick them off of my tonsils with my tongue.
what if you have tried all these options, but still have no luck getting the food out?
And everytime i get sick, both or one of my tonsils end up swollen?
but yet they wont take them out?
i dont believe for one second that its just food. im 18 and ive had this issue for a while now. and in my case im starting to think its either an allergy or a bbacteria that i just happen to pick up in A LOT of places. but it started sometime when i was way younger and its been the reason of alot of absent days. because when i get those annoying white chunks that i can feel and taste, its followed by(a minimum of) a sore throat...on my good days. sometimes its the start of pneumonia(who is also a frequent visitor). im deathly scared of having my tonsils removed esp. bcuz f the story of my bf's exp w/it. so, ill just deal. but its not a build-up of food caught in those craters. you would notice if these built up over time. idk abt yall, but mine show up overnight and can be rather large. so, tell that to your moronic doctors. you know why docs hav bettr docs? cuzz if they listened to themselves, theyd be dead. im in louisiana and the docs here prove their stupidity daily. smh.
