white chunks on tonsils

I have been experiencing a recurrence of white chunks on my tonsils. They often cause discomfort to me. Also their texture resembles the white part of a popcorn kernel. I wonder what those white chunks are caused by. Do they maybe indicate some serious illness?

I've found that removal of the white chunks can be accomplished by using the handle-end of a tooth brush and pressing it gently at the base of the tonsil and sliding it towards the opening or hole at the top of the tonsil while applying gently to moderate pressure. This may cause some temporary discomfort even after the tooth brush is removed, but it does help remove a great deal of the chunky discharge.
i used to have this problem but after every meal i brush my teeth and gargle with moth wash at the back of my throat this way your breath is fresh and you prevent cavities and you get rid of those white rotten food bit ( washing them away with the mouth was before they get big and rotten ) the reason your breath is bad is because it is rotten food so of course u r gonna be a little stinky if you cant brush your teeth or go to school and are embarrassed to then chew very minty gum and just gargle with water in the restroom.
I get these too. I have found the back end of a thin bobby pin is perfect for catching them out. I get strep once a year AT LEAST (started when i was in college, gotta love dorms!) and the craters get worse and bigger. One of them is so big I can stick a bobby pin in about a centimeter.
I have recently had this, basically, I know that my tonsil is full of this white stuff (which I assume was pus) and every so often I would get the end of a long spoon and push underneath this cut and then sploj, it all comes out bit by bit causing me to nearly puke everywhere, it makes my breath absolutely stink too, I think this has been the cause of my bad breath.
I just found out I had them today. I have a super strong gag reflex so I spent an hour or so flexing my throat so that it basically squeezed the stuff out of my tonsil. I'm now left with a slightly sore throat from all the work I put into flexing them and a nice big old hole. I was amazed by how much junk was in that one whole. I had at least two fairly large pieces (looked big to me anyways.) Couple medium sized ones and there is still one tiny piece still stuck in that I can't get out right now because it's too small to be pushed out. Going to try gurgling salt water tomorrow. I'm just worried about how often these show up? I'm 19 years old and only saw that I had this today when it felt like a popcorn kernel stuck in my throat, looked up what it was on the net and spent hours trying to get the crap out. I have noticed that in the past year I have been getting a lot more colds than I did before so I'm wondering if this may be the reason?Anyways I have a really good sized hole on my one tonsil now. As in it is almost as wide as the tonsil itself and I have no idea how deep it is. Looked like it was pretty far in. How often do you guys get these? I don't want my tonsils removed but I saw that some said they got this everyday. I don't think I could take forcing my tonsils to flex up like that every single day. I also don't know if I can afford surgery right now or the healing time since I'm a college student. Plus never in my life have I done under the knife and I've heard stories about how simple surgeries like a tonsil removal went bad. I'm pretty healthy besides the recent onset of the colds thing. I'm a dancer so I get exercise often but don't take medicine that well as I just learned. One dose of Nyquil left me hanging over a toilet all night long so I don't think I would take all the meds required for surgery and recovery very well. Don't know though, if anyone has any tips I'm all ears. Thanks :)
I just finished at the doctor because I decided to go and get it checke out. My doctor said their pretty much harmless just annoying. They won't really go away because they'll keep forming and coming back. Gargle with warm salt water can help or have your tonsils removed. My doctor recommended that I don't mess with them to much. Blood could come from your tonsils while playing with them but don't be to concerned. So other than being stupid and annoying it seems these "white chunks" are just something we will have to deal with.
I have been having this issue for years as well. Not to mention, my tonsils are enormous (almost touch my uvula) and my crypts (pockets) are very large and deep. I am also prone to severe cases of strep which causes my tonsils to swell and stay a little larger than they were pre-strep. So...I have opted to have them removed at nearly 34 years old. Surgery is in 2 weeks and while I hear recovery is awful (and pain meds don't work for me), I also hear it's worth it. So...if you're healthy and the issue is very bothersome, go see an ENT. Best of luck to all!
I had the same things. They were called tonsil stones, I went to the doctor constantly and she said that they'd go away by themselves but after six more months I saw an ENT and he said the only way to get rid of them is to get your tonsils removed, so mine were removed yesterday.
I have been getting these things constantly for the last several weeks. Each time I get a floss pick and scoop them out.
I had this same thing when I was younger.  I wound up having my tonsils removed at 30 because I was developing rheumatoid arthritis (I hope I spelled that correctly.)  I found prior to that the best thing to do for it is to mix 1 teaspoon of salt in some hot water, add some hydrogen peroxide, and some chloreseptic.  If you gargle with this several times a day, you will get rid of the white stuff, kill germs, ease any pain you maybe experiencing from it and help heal it up.  If you continually have tonsil issues though, please have them removed.  It's no biggie and you will feel so much better and be healthier to boot!  Hope this helps.
you are so funny I am dying reading this, finally some one who understands. Its just awful.
I use a q-tip. Sometimes it makes me gag, but I'm getting better at not making myself gag. I used to have it just on my right tonsil. Now it's on my left as well. If it is in fact bacteria collecting, then using some natural remedies that gets rid of bacteria should help. I bet gargling with colloidal silver, which is a antibacterial would help.
go to a ENT...Tonsillectomy done!
Lmao. I have it too and when i was a kid i had ear infections here and there, i never had strep though. And i've gotten used to it and i just chew gum a lot for the breath. I remember i was doing my makeup once and i felt this weird feeling in the side of my throat so i looked with a mini flashlight and i noticed a small bump, so i pressed the side and it was like seeing cottage cheese gush out i was DISGUSTED! But it doesn't happen that much anymore. And yes it does smell like poop.
I've been having these tonsil stones for more than ten years, since I was 17. Luckily, I don't experience severely bad breath. My method of removing them is Q-tip + flashlight. But sometimes, when I get too keen to get it all out, my tonsil hurts for a few days afterwards, it's red, it's hurts to swallow, and the pain goes towards the ear too. Right now I'm having these symptoms plus fever, and I wonder if I got myself some nasty microbe over there.About food that might cause this: I've tried to avoid food with MSG since I was a teenager, so that's not it. I'm avoiding dairy products for about 18 months. And finally I became a nearly-vegan (I still eat some fish) 6 months ago. (All that diet has nothing to do with the tonsil stones...) They still occur.Good thing I googled in English and found this forum; In my language there's no information about it over the internet.
