Hi, I'm still numb after 10 months...and tight of course. Is anyone still tight and numb? I'm afraid I might have nerve damage... B

I agree I am 5 weeks post op and have numbness in both cheeks it is common sense to expect numbness after all he has to cut through nerve tissue to do the job.I also chose a surgeon who specialised in face lifts he was extremely approachable and attentive and did explain all the pros and cons and what to expect.I had a tummy tuck some years ago and endured numbness for a long time but it did eventually settle down.I had age related sagging of my lower face and neck and even though I am early post op I am delighted with his work and grateful for his expertise and care whilst operating.I feel very sorry for those people who are not happy with the outcome but every surgeon would have explained this pre op.I also read reviews so I knew there was a risk but because I was so unhappy with the sagging skin I went into surgery with hope that it would be ok.If you are considering a face lift do your home work and go to a specialisedin this field. With regards to the numbness it takes time I can tolerate this it can be a little uncomfortable but it does not stop me from applying my make up or going out.BE PATIENT it will settle down.
Was your surgeon in San Francisco by any chance?
I had a face lift (which includes the neck lift) and lower eyes done 2 months ago. I, too, feel numbness on my face and a discomforting tightness in my neck. I also feel and see lumpy scars under my chin. I came on this chat hoping to read that all of this, in time, will go away. Although, it's only been two months for me, I am concerned that this numbness could be indicative of permanent nerve damage. I have an appointment with my doctor next week. It's funny from all the comments that I have read that none of us were told about this recovery stage. I, like all of you, was told I would be fine in two/three weeks to go back to work. I will keep you posted. jc
Mine was. Timothy J Marten md performed an early maintenance facelift and temple lift. The experience is very sad since the doctor did not respect my will nearly at all. Due to that I have a lot of defects. Still 8 months after the procedure my neck feels overly tight and I feel like passing out when I try to do sports. There is a court case against him. I'm concidering one too... He has got to stop doing these surgeries without patients consent.
Did your issues end up resolving. I am five months out and am starting to see lots of banding and bumps. Doctor says skin needs to soften.
I had a face lift and lower and upper eyes done 3 years ago. For about 2 months, I felt that tightness around my neck and a couple of times like it would affect my breathing. However, after maybe 2 months, it loosened up to a comfortable level. Now I can't tell at all that it was ever tight. The numbness on my face subsided after a year. bm
I smiled when i read your comments, quite right i have numbness 4 months post op but I know it will improve over time if not completely but "wow" what an improvement i am 72yrs and would do it all over again, come on ladies think positive and cheer up this alone will make you feel better xxx
I had a neck lift almost 16 months ago about 6 months ago I felt a real thightness on left side of neck like somebody is strangeling me I can't smile and pronounce certain words everything moves to the left I can't move my lower lip much it seems to get worse waiting to see a neurologist does this sound like nerve damage
Thank you for putting things in perspective.
I had a neck lift over four years ago and was told the tightness would go away...I still feel like I have an uncomfortably tight strap around my neck. I have pretty much learned to live with it (really no other options), but some days are worse than others. I was told my chances of nerve damage were .01, and the Dr. Had never had this occur before. I took it for granted everything would go fine. It isn't worth the discomfort and stress.
I'm very sorry. My ps messed my neck even I never wanted any neck work done. Now I have been choking for a year soon.
Obviously you are not having the same level of pain as myself and others who complain of pain.. it's excruciating pain not just tightness.. hope your surgery is going great but don't belittle others who have serious side effects.
If it were only a bit of numbness or tightness that might be acceptable. But this is exhausting mentally as well as physically. I feel as if someone has a band around my neck pulling on it. The numbness is like you've been to the dentist except it covers such a large area of the neck, ears, and face and it doesn't wear off. If the Drs were more honest up front about all of this it would be more acceptable as well. I don't know what percentage of people experience this long term, but they should at least have told us there is the possibility of this before we made the decision of surgery.
