Audible noise when moving my eyes

This doesn't happen always, but between 5-10 times a week I will hear (or appear to hear) a noise which vaguely sounds like someone quickly ripping a piece of paper or cloth when I move my eyes from one point to another (left to right, up to down, etc). I guess I'm just trying to figure out is this really happening, or am I suffering from some type of auditory hallucination?
There doesn't seem to be any single set of circumstances it occurs in.
Has anyone heard of anything like this?

I know this is an old post but I thought I would add. I have come to realize I have this swishy noise. Its sort of annoyingly with me all the time now but only side to side movement, and I sort of gradually started to become aware of it, which I think means it started out barely noticable and has been getting worse. I have been on anti depressants long term and have been off them for a few months now, but the thing I really wanted to add is that I have a mucus retaining cyst in my frontal sinus. Someone else related this to sinus problems. So get your sinuses checked if you have swishy eyes. Good luck everyone. I'll be going to talk to the optometrist tomorrow to see if I can get a referral to an opthamologist. No family doctor here thanks to cuts in the canadian health care system.

OK, for years I have had a faint swishing noise when I move my eyes around, which is of course most of the time, almost every second, since eyes are rarely completely still. It sounds like "sit sit sit sit sit", and if I'm using the computer the noise would be more than every second, i.e. every time I refocus on something on the screen. It's very quiet, and when I was taking Paxil, the antidepressant Paroxitine, the noise would go away. In fact that little noise would remind me that I had forgotten to take my medication.
No-one's every been able to explain it, and a lot of people look at me a bit weirdly when I tell them about it. ps I'm a doctor myself, not an eye doctor, an arterial surgeon, and not completely crazy, though some people wonder.

It's the antidepressant imho Doctor JR retired It was Paxil that did it to me, one of the Prozac group. If you have had more than one answer from me, I apologize, I'm new to this
Are you on an antidepressant? from the Prozac group, e.g. Pazil That's what does it to me. Coming off the antidepressant makes it worse Dr. John R
Following this thread, I've had this noise for the past four years, combined with weird dizzy, flu in the head type symptoms. I seem to get these symptoms worse when I'm very stressed either physically or mentally, for example if I'm tired, not feeling well, or pushing my body physically. It's makes me feel very wary because it alters my sense of balance (and no, it's not an ear problem - I've had everything checked out). I'm also going through perimenopause and am also on Paroxetine anti depressants, though I wasn't on the anti-depressants four years ago when it first started. I am fed up of this issue.. totally fed up.
I have the noise like a light saber also. It does not happen all the time, but it is very often. If I get really stressed or if I am exceptionally tired, I can count on it happening. When I am walking into a store, I get a whooshing sound and the car and other sounds will sound like they are getting louder and softer. It is like my heart is squeezing the sound out and then let's up. It is like it is in sync with my heartbeat but it is not that because I have taken my pulse while it is happening and my heartbeat is faster. I have rheumatoid arthritis and have frequent sinus infections. I see an opthomologist regularly. I have a cardiologist who says everything is fine; a pulmonologist who says everything is fine;my rheumatologist who looks at me strangely if I mention it. I have an ear, nose and throat doctor. I am scared to mention it because I am afraid I am crazy. It is very bothersome, but I just try to ignore it. If anyone finds a cure, please post it.
I am so glad to read this. I can relate to the light saber feeling. My symptoms occur, usually after sleeping. I wake up with a headache and while my eyes are still closed, when I move them back and forth it sounds like a star wars light saber. The back of my eyeballs continue to hurt, along with the headache, usually for the rest of the day. Feel a bit weakened by it. Have you had any success in getting any answers. I must say, it was a relief to read your post. Thanks!
I have also found that this happens to me when I am very tired too, or stressed, either mentally or physically. The light sabre sounds and also a dizzy sensation. It's just done it now when I moved my eyes. I notice it go away when I'm on holiday, out of any stressful environment, and it's so nice to feel normal again. I would just love to know what it is.
I've been trying to figure out what I was hearing. You described it most accurately...off to the Drs.
Great thread. Totally know what everyone is talking about, I've had it a lot lately. The descriptions of what it sounds and feels like are spot on.
As to what it is - I have no doubt it's something to do with my medications. For reasons I won't go into, I went from 300mg Venofaxine a day to none, with no trail off. A week later, and I had this issue.
Today I can afford to get my meds, so all will be well again for a while.
So basically, I think it's a side effect of the meds. However, when I have the right dose, taken at the right times, I don't get it. Miss a day, take a day pill during the evening etc - then I'll get this.
I've just found out what mine is, SILENT MIGRAINES.

I cannot believe after three - four years that no doctor ever considered that this is what I have. So I've suffered. Had numerous tests, all to no avail. Now to find out what the triggers are, besides stress and tiredness. By the way, I have it real bad today, suffering from flu as it is, and this silent migraine is causing quite a strong disability - dizzy spells, lack of focus, disorientation and the light sabre sounds are drowning out every other sound.. arghh!
Interesting article, but it's not what I get. I don't get "lights".
Mine are almost..... like my eyes are floating on a big pool of water, and if I move them I can hear them swooshing about. It also slows my ability to focus. For example, moving my eye rapidly around and around causes giddiness. "Light Saber" is the perfect description of the sound that accompanies eye movement.
Drs assume you are drug seeking even if you are white. That is your government at work. Government should stay out of medicine. Drs have been accused of "drug dealing" because they want to help non-drug seeking patients. Personally, I feel like a criminal if I ask for pain medication.
