Audible noise when moving my eyes

This doesn't happen always, but between 5-10 times a week I will hear (or appear to hear) a noise which vaguely sounds like someone quickly ripping a piece of paper or cloth when I move my eyes from one point to another (left to right, up to down, etc). I guess I'm just trying to figure out is this really happening, or am I suffering from some type of auditory hallucination? There doesn't seem to be any single set of circumstances it occurs in. Has anyone heard of anything like this?

Ive been on antidepressants for anxiety 18 yrs ago, but been really ill from it for over 6 yrs. this swooshing sound when i move my eyes started after that n comes and goes. I have so many stupid symtoms as i av an overactive sympathetic nervous system from too much anxiety and one of things ive learnt is that we all have a thing in our inner ear that cuts off noise, without it you would here your jaw making terrible noises when you eat. What sometimes happens, which to me it does when feeling most poorly from my chronic anxiety, is, this thing stops working, making inner head movements u wouldnt normally hear, heard. That might be why some experience it when taken off your meds, and also put on them, because you are anxious. Discussing this with doctors wont do any good. Basically there useless with every thing ive discussed over 6 yrs. infact they look at me as though im bonkers and have now refferred me to a psychiatrist, lol. That said, im going cus i need help to sort out my anxiety problem as it rules my life, if u can now call it a life. My advice to everyone is, dont worry about this noise. I used to think i needed a brain scan from all the wierd things i have going on (for instance i get snippets of conversations swishing in and out of my head at speed when im really bad too, nothing scarey or talking to me, just like your hearing a bit of a tape recording in fast forward) and worrying about them adds to your anxiety problems. Now i must say, if you dont think you have anxiety, like i didnt, let me tell you, i doubted it too. Ive spent 5 of the last 6 years trying to find out whats wrong with me cus i was adament the doctor was wrong and that there wasnt something else i had, cus nobody suffers all these things from just anxiety, do they? Well yes they do. I wish id gone to see the therapist to seek help on anxiety when offered as id never have got as bad i am now, if i had then, as they give u coping mechansm to switch off your anxiousness. Unfortunately, like i said, mine damaged my nervous system and now im ill nearly every day of my life with terrible sleep and fatigue and memory etc problems, so look into therapy if you are or have been a very stressy person and save yourself a lot of future crappy years. Good luck folks.

Also, if u look at top of page, u will see a post by a medical expert on this. It sums up just about everything ive learnt myself from many hours over many weeks of googling. Id never noticed these on this type of forum, but i will certainly look out for them from now. Many thanks doctor.
You might find them in your junk box though, i did.
Thank you!! That makes sense! In addition I occasionally have periods where my vision gets slightly distorted, as in certain colours seem to pop right out and become uncomfortable to look at. Sometimes to go along with weird vision I also have auditory symptoms. Sounds seem extra loud and irritating. I've been off my anti depressant for 5 or 6 months now and the swishies have receded. Maybe there was withdrawl causing silent migraines. I never thought to monitor if swishes happened more frequently during stressful periods. What a great thread. I feel much better.
I understand this. I sometimes hear my pulse. I figured it must be related to my blood pressure somehow but that doesn't seem to be the case as that's fine. I asked a chiropractor about the possiblity that an artory or something is getting constricted as it mainly happens when I lie down on my stomach, propped up on my elbows (he was very knowledgeable about anatomy too, extra studying). He couldn't explain it. Anyway, I'm leaning toward the silent migraine explanation, but thought I'd mention I understand what you're talking about with the sound so you don't feel alone with that. I also suspect this might be tied to dietary issues. I have irritable bowel and know the gut has been given the monniker of second brain, and food sensitivities can trigger migraines. Plus my daugher and mother both get nasty migraines. I thought I was lucky enough to be missed by that, but maybe not. I also have a mucus retaining cyst in my right frontal sinus though, worth mentioning. Maybe you should get checked for that as they can wreak all kinds of havoc.
I'm getting angry with all the posts saying doctors look at them like they're crazy when mentioning this. I'm going to suggest to people, that they tell the "health care professional" to reserve their judgements on your mental health until they go home and google the subject for themselves and see the vast number of people complaining about this! Or even take a printout of some of this thread or the address for them to see. Even the doctor on this thread was looked at strangely. You would think these people would have a modicum of compassion for someone bringing such concerns forward, given their profession.
Not temporary. Been of meds for a long time. Still happens to me.
Stopped mine too ( Zoloft) and am having the same problem. I quite taking mine about e months ago and I just started having symptoms today and it is really weird. Thanks for posting about it
I have a strange sensation....almost like a zapping when eyes are shut and moved kept or right....sometimes get a funny not all there feeling when up walking about...x
Hello I usually have allergies spring and fall. I usually have similar sounds of wind.. In my ears when eyes are moving mostly In mornings. I've had fluid like tears drain from my eyes also. I have been using eye solution for relief It seems to help a little and I use a allergy Pill too.if not better I will seek professional Assistance from my doctor...it is very Agervating.
I'm not sure if this is simply a coincidence but I experience the sounds that I hear when I move my eyes(while they're closed) and also have a mucus retaining cyst. I wonder if there's any correlation.
I have the same noise when looking left and right. I was taking Cymbalta too and when I searched for a cause, I saw several people mentioned Cymbalta in connection with sounds with eye movement. I stopped taking Cymbalta a few months ago and that's when the sounds started. The sounds stopped for a couple of days then started again. Hoping they stop for good soon.
Yeah I'm not sure. I still have the cyst but the swishy noises have almost completely subsided. It makes sense to me that it could be related though as all those systems are linked: the eyes, the ears, the throat, the sinuses. Pressure on nerves. I'm no anatomist, I'm just making loose assumptions. But I've also been off the anti depressants for a good 8 months or so. Is so nice to finally be chemical free. Anyway, I think its worth investigating with an ENT doc. Those cysts can become very dangerous btw. Make sure you research them and talk about it with doc to make best informed decisions about it.
