Ive been on the Mirena for about 6 months. I have to say that i do love it. My only concern would be it falling out at the WRONG time. Ive been getting symptoms of pregnancy, but i do still feel it in. Sometimes i wonder if making my decision to get on that was a mistake, but i would just like to know if it hurts when its fallling out?... How would i kknow if it is falling out at that moment.... help?
I recently went in for an exam and my doctor told me she could not feel the Mirena threads so she was ordering an ultarsound for me. I had the ultrasound and they couldn't find it either so they did an internal ultrasound, it is nowhere to be found! They think I must have expelled it and not noticed but I find that so hard to believe. The radiologist scared me asking if I had any pain anywhere in the abdomen area cause he seemed to think it could be somewhere other than my uterus - ?? My doctor says she has no idea how that would even be possible but we'll see what she tells me tomorrow.
To answer some of your questions out there, when I had it inserted a year ago, I had severe cramping and bleeding for 3 weeks then the pain just dissapeared and I've felt nothing ever since. I never checked for the threads myself - I'm too squeamish for that. My doctor thinks that the 3 weeks of cramping was my body rejecting it and that it was probably expelled back then and that's why the cramping subsided finally - that is so scary to think that for a year I might have been without birth control! Anyway, that might explain why I didn't experience any of the symptoms I hear a lot of women complain about. Good luck to all out there, I'm too coward to venture on that again (it was VERY painful upon insertion and took a lot longer than the doctor expected, she said my cervix was very hard to break through which was odd since I'd just had a baby 4 months prior which meant my cervix should have been soft) I'm just going to get back on my tried and true birth control pills which worked for me for 10 years - only stopped because it cut my milk supply when I was breastfeeding.

I had the Mirena put in 9 weeks ago and had my check up last week all was fine until today, the IUD is falling out and I can feel the wire outside of my vagina now. NOT happy as this was the last step before hysterectomy for me. If I had had the hysterectomy first up I would be all recovered by now, looks like back to hospital for me. :-(
hi ive had the mirena for about 4 maybe 5 ?? years (help i dont know the date!!) i hated it for the first 3 months? as i had pain and cramping like after shock from giving birth!! but once that had gone, i hardly ever have a period or even spotting which is great and no period pain, i dont get moody my iron levels are higher, i dont have a luck of desire like with the pill, and my husband has never said anything about feeling poking.. i'm only hoping that i can get another one put in as soon as this is out of date...hope this reassures some of you!
I had Mirena put in January 2007. I have never had any problems, my periods were really light and I loved it (yeah, I did probably gain about 10 lbs.) Well, I loved it until last week when I found out I was pregnant. Extreme shock and depression set in as you can imagine. In my exams, my doctor informed me that he can't find the Mirena, so he says that it either fell out, or that it is logged in my uterus somewhere. I have to go back in for another ultrasound soon to see if they can locate it. I just don't understand. I know how bad it hurt going in. How the hell didn't I feel it come out, if that's what happened?
i had my mirena placed 2 months ago . I have had bleeding since day one.. like a 2 month period. I had cramping, breast tenderness, mood swings, depression and weight gain. Then to top it all off , it fell out the other day. I don't know if this is a blessing or not.
I have had mirena for about 9 months now and I was wondering too if it could fall out on its own. When it was inserted, I bled and had some cramping and pain for a day or two after. I haven't had a period since I first got pregnant. The doc said this was because I was breastfeeding and a lot of women stop having periods while on mirena. I am glad that so many of you have mentioned the sweet tooth and mood swings and weight gain. I thought I was going crazy. I have never been able to feel my strings so I wouldn't even know what to check for. Can anyone tell me how to find the strings? My doc didn't say anything about checking them. He said that the mirena would be checked during my yearly exams and that some women actually dislodge the mirena when searching for the strings. Oh, so many questions. lol Overall, I am happy with the mirena. By the way, has anyone elses sex drive died? I'm not sure if it is just me being tired from chasing a 10 month old around or if it is the mirena affecting me. I honestly can't remember the last time my husband and I had sex. I do remember the first time after the mirena was inserted though. He said it felt like something poking him and I felt it too so I went to the doc and they trimmed the strings and we haven't had anymore problems with that.
well, i hv sat here & read everything tht evry1 has said abt this form of birth control & sheesh i am truely a tad bit scared of going back 2 the dr & him saying tht he is unable 2 find it!... for all the women tht said their dr was unable 2 find the string & they did get the Mirena removed, how did they find the string? whr was it?...
as of now, i can feel the string hanging from my vagina & i became kinda scared, i tld my sister last night but i dnt know wht 2 do cuz i currently am unemployed, i dnt hv insurance & its poking me which is becoming kinda irritating!... i hv had it in since June 2009, my daughter was born in May 2009 so its been in approximately 2 1/2 months & i hv been hvn all the same symptoms as evry1 else. i eat alot of candy (gotta hv aleast 1 a day, its my new addiction) and i'v nvr really been a big chocolate eater... i lost lk 15 lbs after i had my daughter but i gained it right back, idk y though... after reading wht every1 else was saying abt their husbands/spouse being able 2 feel it while intercourse, i asked my husband & he said tht he cld feel it too (thnx 4 jus now telln me)... my dr nvr tld me abt checking the string or anything of tht sort, i asked 1 of the nurses if they hv falling out in sum cases & she tld me no (she totally lied 2 me)... my cousins gf tld me tht hers had fallen out but she's a pathological liar so i didnt believe her but i wish i wldv listened 2 her b4, hell i wish i wldv researched/googled Mirena b4 inserting this within me!... and 2 think tht i canceled my surgery 2 get my tubes tied, well i do want more children later on in life & tht's y i didnt go thru wit the procedure!
ANY SUGGESTIONS ON A DIFFERENT FORM OF BIRTH CONTROL ANY1?

YES. the MIRENA IUD can fall out. I had one placed last tuesday- exactly one week ago. I had some really bad cramping last night, so bad that i couldnt go to sleep. I got up, went to work this morning feeling absolutely fine. I was wondering of course what all the cramping was about! After an hour into work, i felt something scratching the opening to my vagina. I went to the bathroom because i was worried, and my iud was half way out, so i tugged lightly and it came out! I immediately called my doctor, and they said that my uterus had expelled it, and i have to go back in next week to have another one placed. i am in shock, but they said there is nothing to worry about, and sometimes that happens with an IUD. ?
Well I have read all of the concerns about the mirena, and yes the mirena can fall out. I was in the tub last night exactly and I felt the strings hanging out and I grabbed the string real light thinking the strings might be just too long but the whole mirena came out. My husband also could feel the mirena when I had it. I got the mirena placed after my daughter was born in May of 2008. I'm concerned about how long the mirena been unattached because my husband and I did have unprotected sex, so I'm worried as to how fast could I get pregnant? I did have a pregnancy test done about three weeks ago it was negetative and I had my period for the month of August but not Septmeber. 8-|
i have had the iud in for almost 8 month and i have had severe cramping every month around my normal menstral cycle is that normal? and around that time i have a smelly discharge is that normal for an iud to cause? also i have gained 50 lbs in the time i have had it i also have a sweet tooth and never seem to be full is that from the iud or breast feeding? please help me it is so expenisive to go to the drs
Hey I never post but I was actually looking for anyone else this happened to. I called last week to my doc to see if my BAD cramps could be caused by mirena and she told me not to worry...today I felt the strings hanging out and barely tugged and it popped right out......no idea how long it has been dislodged or i I could be pregnant or anything. Going to the doc tomorrow about it.
WELL I DECIDED TO GET THE MIRENA AFTER MY 3RD CHILD. IVE HAD IT N FOR 7 MONTHS N I LOVE IT! I HAVENT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WIT IT. MY PERIODS R IRREGULAR BUT ITS NOT NECESSARILY A BAD THING BECAUSE WHEN THEY DO COME THEY'RE SO LIGHT N GO AWAY WITHIN A DAY OR TWO. IVE READ SOME OF THE OTHER COMMENTS N I TOTALLY HAVE TO DISAGREE WIT THE SEX COMMENTS. IF ANYTHING ITS MADE ME SEX DRIVE BOOST ABOUT 1000% LOL. MY HUSBAND TOTALLY LOVES IT TOO BECAUSE WE CAN HAVE SEX SEVERAL TIMES WITHOUT HAVING TO WORRY. I CHECK FOR IT EVERYDAY TO MAKE SURE ITS STILL N PLACE. MY HUSBAND DOES FEEL IT A LIL BIT BUT ITS NOTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT, ITS EITHER THIS OR ANOTHER BABY LOL.

I got a Mirena in Aug and my fell out on Wednesday. It was pretty scary and bloody. I was bleeding for 14 days straight until it fell out. So my advice is if you have langer than normal bleeding call your Doctor. I am still bleeding 3 days after it has fallen out. Yuck...
