I get lower left back pain when drinking. I am a 23 yr old male. And i enjoyed myself a little to much in college. I also was in a really bad car accident about 2 years ago and have had cronic back problems.

On a different blog there was a post stating that carbination or caffine could cause a problem with some system.

My theory is when i drink my liver gets a little swollen putting pressure on my allready sensitive back.

Yes! Finally someone else besides me that has that problem. I get lower back pain after drinking steadily for a few days. As a matter of fact I have it now which is how I found this blog. I don't know the reason. I'm thinking intestines more than kidneys if you're still urinating as usual. If you are suffering from kidney problems there would be little to no urine or blood in the urine. I'm betting the problem is gastritis(inflamation of the stomach lining)Look it up on webmd.

Hello everyone,

im 25, male, normal weight and fit! I had troubles with my lower back and chest pains the first time last summer(2007). That "day", i got so drunk that i couldn´t stand the next day. The pains were as follows: stings in my lower back(left and right), upper left chest and heavy arms(felt like i had not circulation at all). That period i was on holidays in Macedonia, and at the hospital they basically told me i had a muscle collaps. (???)
By the way...since then every time i drunk too much, my pains came back! especially in the lower back zone.
my last incredible experience was last sunday: i had 0.2 L of wine! my pains, only in the lower back are now lasting almost 5 days!
i went to the hospital(spain) again, Nothing!!!
can anybody tell me what i can do....specify please!
this pains are horrible...and i really want to continue to drink beer!

The exact thing happens to me. The pain is almost unbearable but it does let up after 10 or 15 minutes and I don't take anything.

I told six different doctors about my pain when drinking alcohol. None of them made the connection. Finally after six months, I was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkins. If you are under 36 (I was 35 when diagnosed) get to a doctor immediately:

Okay, I get pain in my left side and it moves back and forth between my side and my testicle. It starts happening after like 3-4 beers, and if it doesnt happen it seems to happen when i wake up the next morning and will last at most all day, never more than a day though. I dont want to stop drinking, i dont even drink that often... i just want this to stop happening, someone told me it was because i drink too much and not eat enough but i dont know if that is the reason...

I too am 30, and alcohol has damaged my kidneys. The kidneys have very little nerves attached to them so what I would feel was radiant pain in my lower back and flanks from my imflammed kidneys when I drank and smoked. Since I have stopped drinking and smoking the pains have subsided significantly. Have your doctor check your kidney function to see if you have perminent or acute damage and stop drinking and smoking.

You need to think about what changes are occurring in your lifestyle, associated with high alcohol intake could be having an affect on underlying back pain - e.g. Are you less active than usual because of the increase in alcohol intake? or Are you moving around more than usual due to the dis inhibiting affects of alcohol (this could include "dancing the night away" if you go out to drink)

When you get dehydrated your kidneys start to hurt (aka your lower back). So, drinking would do it.

Hello I am a 29 yr old male. I have had back pain when I drink for the last 10 months (or so I thought). I stop drinking for the must part all together. My back would still hurt even though I wasn't drinking but it seemed to hurt alot more when I drank just a little. I tried everything I knew to try I went to the Doctor, three different ones. They all really couldn't tell me anything except to try musle relaxers. I thought I was dying or something and the doctors were missing something. One day I was at my girlfriend and she has neck pain sometimes and her doctor told her to try something called bio-frezze. I tryed it and I PROMISE IT REALLY WORKED. You have to order it though an agent or something though. So I went to wal-mart and found the knock-off brand called frezze-it. It works just as well. I don't normally reply to blogs but if this can help one I want to assist. I remeber how frustrated I felt. I hope this helps.

First off you can buy Biofreeze online or at any physcial therapist.Even ebay. And yes it will help as a muscle pain reliever.
Next off I read through some of these posts and I am no doctor but I consider myself pretty smart .Iis obvious some of the people in the posts have medical issues that the alcohol is just aggravating.Alcohol is basically a poison to the body.It has always been one of the worst drugs in history to take because it is the only drug that affects every major organ in the body.Other illegal drugs can be worse with effects but none of them destroy the body as much as alcohol does. Also alcohol will affect everyone different as most drugs will.I myself have been fit as hell most of my life but I had alot of injuries here and there from various sports.I also had issues with my L5 disc and had surgery.
Anyway I dont drink often but I notice when I drink I dont just feel back pain I feel every significant injury I have ever had.Knee pain, back pain ankle pain, even arthritic pain, etc. And yes the pains are bad.
I also have at times in the past smoked weed here and there as alot of people have.I found that this had the same effect as the alcohol on me and caused all my prior injuries to hurt
On the flipside let me state first that I hate coffee but I have found drinking it when I am in some pain will sometimes take the pain away better than Tylonal or a pain pill.
So using common sense tells me that the alcohol and the weed are in the depressent family and the caffiene is in the stimulant family. So bascially the stimulants help the pain with me and the depressants either cause pain or cause the pain to be worse.Alcohol was used as a pain killer in the past as most people know but cocaine was also once used as a pain killer. No I dont use cocaine but it all makes sense to me.
Alcohol takes my wifes pains away but it makes me hurt.
Just remember all drugs even prescription drugs affect everyone differently. We are all written differently.Another example is the drug Ritalin.....It is actually a stimulant but in someone with ADD it works as a depressant to calm them down.
If drinking is causing you any kind of pain the injury or problem is already there from before or may just not have surfaced yet.
Alcohol depletes the body of all kind of minerals an nutrients. So it could be more or less taking away from the bodies natural pain killers.
Endorphins and adrenaline are natural pain killers in the body and alcohol interferes with them.Makes perfect sense why it would injuries to hurt in alot of people.

This happens to me as well. But you never stop to think that when your drunk you tend to pass out or fall alseep in wierd positions. This could very well do it too.
