heyhey kids. got a theory. what if this is bad posture while sleeping? hmmmm? think about it. . . you often fall asleep after you get high, then you might not sleep on a proper bed that night. also, while you sleep you naturally toss and turn a certain ammount to prevent bed sores and limbs falling asleep. what if your reduced muscle fatigue and numbed pain prevent this auto-bed-sleep-movement. . . also, i really liked the smoking causing muscle swelling theory, but i'm pretty sure the anti inflamatory properties of pot would cancel that out. personally, i get pain in my upper middle back between my shoulder blades. feels like my lungs are pushing out the back of my body and popping out some of my back muscles in that region. i guess it could be the dhit in my lungs causing lung infection / lung inflamation -> then leading to the swolen lungs pusing out my back muscles?!?! in any case, i just got some dowel sticks from the hardware store the force those muscles bacm into place. cured now. just use the sticks to put my back back in whenever those muscles f**k. i also liked the comment frkm that guy who thought is was bad posture aggrivating existing back problems. personally i have scolliosis.

awww hell, being a billionaire genius i should prolly tell you fellow smokers about the cure for this. . . the gubberment has been breeding specific strains on MJ with THC kn ratios to produce specific kill joy effects on hippies. they have also put numerous quantities of sh*t in our weed over the years to try and stop us smoking. . . . some clowns in the far right conservative "old guard" actually thought (believed) it would be funny to mess with our weed to stress pot smokers out and give them a sore lungs and back. some people are so anal they actually believe that pot will make everyone lazy and bring america to it's knees. . . also the powers that be are somewhat concerned that if enough people expand their minds with THC, a chemical now proven to RAISE IQs an average of 5 points across the population, that mind expanded voters might actually start thinking for themselves and stop watching fox news. :p . . . well i'm here tk tell you all that those penis heads can fuuuuck riiight off. here are some reasons why weed might be making your back hurt, aside frkm those mentioned above: - weed makes you sensitive to radiation *feeling* different kinds or radiation. you may just be too close to the mobile phone tower or your wireless router when you light up. solution: move away from the radiatikn or take comfort that the plant also gives you improved resistance to radiation, as it has evolved to cope at high altitude and passes those abilities onto the user when you smoke. - weed causes certain types of cancer cells in your body to self destruct. the pain you are feeling may simply be weed curing your cancer by simply instructing your body to deal with it the way it should. solution: smoke more weed to avoid cancer death. - there are something like 50+ different THC molecules present in weed. each has a slightly different purpose for healing the human body. however, if you have a strakn of weed that has these molecules in the wrong ratios, it could actually cause harm. solution: change to a different weed supllier with different weed. preferably not goverment weed with additives. here is the cure: vitamin C to reduce the lung infections (for those who smoke and not vaporise) GNC brand GABA 750 - (gamma-aminobutyric acid) (to cancel out the gubberment assult on hippies) Happy smoking people. :p fu-fu-f**k the lawwwww! yeahhhh! ;D

Try low thc high cbd

you won't get super "high" feeling exactly but I have found it really makes a difference for me.

I can smoke 25% and feel high but very stiff achy and sore

But my bud with 4% thc and 9% or so cbd seems to make my body feel comfortable and relaxed, pains are soothed

It isn't the root cause, but it certainly doesn't help. The root to the problem is that your stressed mind is creating the pains, so try leda's tip to go for high cbd strains that helps to relax the mind.

I also suffer back pain and only happens when I smoke too much, when you smoke that definitely brings a stimulus on the body and when I  smoke occasionally it stops  to manifest. All bodies are unique and respond differently so if you suffer from this pain it is best to turn down the frequency at which you smoke. :)

Hi there, I hope some of you guys are still around. I desperately need advice :/ I am a smoker, I started smoking at 24 after I underwent a huge family loss (my daughter) and haven't being able to quit since. I still maintain my gym routine and full time work with children, no one around me would even suspect I smoke every night to help me sleep. It had become a massive vice and I am addicted to the chill every night where I can stop over thinking and actually sleep.
For the past year and a bit though it has caused me enormous back pain that rules my life. I have found ways to manage it and live with it reasonably comfortably but it gets very tiring always being in pain. I have tried EVERYTHiNG to give up the smoke and I nothing works. I'm at the point now I just want to find out what damage it will do to me if I continue, over a year now with my muscles ripping and inflamed every day. I use heat packs and heat patches but they don't fully work. I don't take pain killers because they only last a short time and not worth taking boxes a week.
Has anyone found a way to stop this, or worked out why it is happening? I have recently hired a pt and trying to strengthen my upper body muscles more to see if that helps. ( I am already a gym junkie just not major muscle ).
I really appreciate any comments or advice. Thanks guys.

Well, i better weigh in here since a number of the posts below are harmonious to my own personal experience.

A little more than a year ago I strained my mid back. To this point I had been very regularly smoking weed for a couple years, and I loved it. After the injury; however, things changed. I noticed that when I smoked, my back pain would be exacerbated. I should stress that I did not experience this phenomena before the injury, and that it cotinues to this day (well, it would if I smoked but I quit recently).

I didn't make the connection immediately. Eventually though, when I first began to see the corralation, I put it to the test. I layed down in bed sober and noted that I was not experiencing back pain/discomfortort. Then I smoked, and sure enough, back pain/discomfort.

I, much like other people on this thread, tried to explain this to my fellow weed smoking buddies. They falsely reasoned that because it isn't their experience that it couldn't be anyone elses (dumbasses). I'm not consistantly imagining the pain every time i smoke, I try to explain. It's real

A number of people below suggest that the weed must be laced or in some way impure. I know where and how the plant was grown, so i can eliminate this variable. Not to mention I experienced the same reaction from multiple strains.

Both the "paradoxical reaction" (pruposed below by the nurse/medical marijuana advocate) and the muscle relaxant theories resonate with me, but I think more research is needed on this phenomena. It seems clear to me that a small fraction of weed smokers can develop a kind of resistance to it, and because they are a minority are often scoffed at by their "expert" pothead friends.

On one side of the isle there are the people who want to demonize weed, and they are clearly in the wrong. Equally in the wrong; however, are weed smokers who want to overglorify it as this imaculate plant that can do man no harm. Keep an open mind, not everyone is like you. I personally had a really hard time quiting weed because I became emotionally/psychologically dependent upon it even while I recognized that it was doing me harm and impeding my personal development in many ways. I digress.

I think this site has malware on it btw, my computer sounds like it's gonna have a baby

I have been smoking for about 4 years.  After purchasing a bag a few months ago, I have been experiencing severe pain in my right shoulder and my right trapezius muscle after I smoke. The more I smoke the worse the pain is. I did not have back pain before smoking this particular weed.  I also have developed a rash around my eyes.  I bought this weed from a dealer I didn't know that well.  I personally think there is either chemicals in it or its a strain I'm allergic to.  I've never had this problem before. The bag I bought has GKR written on it.  I've decided not to smoke any more of this c**p and hope to purchase from a better source.

For some it might be an underlying physiological problem, but for me, I think my body is having a severe allergic reaction to something in this particular weed.  Without having it analyzed, I can't really know what I'm smoking.  I may have to give it up. :(

This fits mine. I was in a car wreck in jr year and it threw out my back. Since then ive gained weight and the muscles have had to strengthen to hold it all. So sometimes because my muscles are being forced, without pot i do have pain. But with it, i have the same pain. I didnt realize it till now, but its in the very same place i usually hurt in, and in the same way.

I did really overwork my right shoulder about a year ago. It took several months of massage to get it back. The pain after I smoke settles right in that area. When I don't smoke for a few days, the pain goes away. I gave the stuff I had to someone else. I guess if I had good ethics I would have told him I thought it was toxic, but …
