Heart races after eating

Hi, I am wearing a holter monitor for 3 days, now, to diagnose my condition, since my heart speeds up enormously after eating. I definately suffer from tachycardia. My ranges after eat are 120-150 bpm. What could be the reason?

Hi everyone. I recently started having a lot of the same problems as you guys. I've been dealing with stomach problems since I was a teenager (I'm now 36). If you haven't already done so, look up Gastroparesis. There are several different causes for it (mine is virus related), but basically your stomach muscles do not contract your food correctly which in turn causes your food to just sit. Since your food doesn't digest, nutrients are not being distributed throughout your body; therefore, you may get hypo (or hyper) glycemic causing a racing heart, dizziness, fatigue, etc. Additionally, bacteria builds up in your stomach causing bloating, gas, reflux, vomiting, etc. If left untreated, gastroparesis can lead to hypo (or hyper) thyroidism and other endocrine related disorders. I haven't been to the doctor yet; however, it appears Reglan, antibiotics and a strict diet are the solution. I never thought my stomach could cause so much trouble. I'll update everyone after the doctor runs his tests and gives his diagnosis. Thanks!

When you get the racing pulse, try to drink some hot tea or warm water with cayenne abstract in it. Probably 10-15 drops into the hot liquid...should calm your heartbeat right down...look up google cayenne pepper and you will see where people have recommended it for heart attacks and healthy arteries. It can be a little strong so start with 4-5 drops. It works for me....hopefully this will help others....

symptoms after eating (esp. a large meal) pressure right under my heart like my stomach is pushing up into it, racing heart, shallow breathing, and at it's worse, diahrea and dizzyness, which all cause me to feel anxious. This comes and goes for me, it isn't all of the time over the past four years. I am a young adult as well, and this started when I was 20. My mom assures me that this happened to her when she was younger, and she grew out of it.
I've had ekg's, heart ultra sound, numerous ER visits, used beta blockers and have had numerous blood tests. I have a completely normal heart according to these tests, but have been diagnosed with tachycardia. I've had my thyroid and kidney's tested, and they're alright too. Next they're going to look at my pituitary gland and liver.
Here are the possible reasons I've been told
Hypoglycemia- causes a steep drop in blood sugar which can cause these symtpoms, try testing your blood sugar when you feel at your worse. (So far, this is what it seems to be)
Ehler's Danlos Syndrome- connective tissue weakness, see if you have hyper-mobility, stretchy skin and other symptoms
Allergies- high fat, high sugar/carbohydrate, or high salt meals
Caffeine- it's helped the frequency of symptoms, but it still happens

I have recently started to have these symptoms. I've suffered with anxiety problems my whole life. I use to have panic attacks as a teen and have been on multiple forms of heavy medication throughout middle school and high school I had stopped taking medication once I started to smoke pot and have been self medicating for about 12 years. I am now 28 and have recently stopped smoking pot. About a month after stopping, I started to have these exact same symptoms. My heart races after eating slightly large meals or high calorie meals like ice cream. My anxiety has returned almost as bad as before and I have bouts of near panic attacks after stressful days at work. I have recently went to my PCP and was prescribed zoloft. It has helped my anxiety, but has not helped my heart racing after meals and gives my other symptoms like small memory problems and a sick feeling. I will try to go a month before making my final decision on Zoloft, but I honestly prefer pot because I could choose the times at which the symptoms effected me and the symptoms were pleasant, not like what I'm experienceing with zoloft. I unfortunatelly live in New Mexico where I can't be legally prescribed pot for anxiety. I find it odd that I had gone such a long time without these type of anxiety problems to only have them come back directly after getting off pot. If this continues, I will start to smoke again regardless of whether or not it's legal.
years ago i started having these symptoms (abdominal pressure, tachycardia, sweating, shortness of breath), usually after eating, but often just at random times. at first it would pass relatively quickly, but over the years they got worse, more severe and longer lasting. i found a great doctor who diagnosed me with gallstones. i've since had my gallbladder removed and have not had an attack since. its a quick procedure with a short recovery time and sooo worth it. there are a lot of symptoms and causes for gallstones so its worth looking into if you haven't already.
hope this helps someone out there!
Why are doctors so quick to put any physical symptoms down to anxiety or depression.....Flippit. Your body is your best doctor, and tell you. Certainly you should know, how you felt and what happened to your heart, some time ago, when you do certain things, and now. I had the same experience some time ago, when I was eating, and now it also happens, that when I have a BM my heart start racing and beats very heavily in my chest. Went to the doctor and he sais my B/P 140/80, and normal according to him, my Urine is clean,,,everything is normal besides the small hernia I have in my stomach above my navel...witch feel to me like a big thing the way it presses, aslo find it difficult to have normal BM, even if it is soft...and have to drink something to have a BM, every day, but the hernia also is not a problem for him at this moment, but it certainly is for me, cause sometimes Like today I cant breath properly, feels like everything is pressing agains each other....
I had those episodes for years along with arrhythmia, tachycardia, faintness, sweats, etc. I am only 35 so this was very disconcerting to me as I thought I could die any day. Numerous doctors and specialists could not diagnose it. It was debilitating in the least. The thing that got rid of it for me was A: increased water intake. B: cutting out ANY processed foods. As it stands now I rarely have symptoms unless I eat something with MSG, or preservatives, which is basically everything. My diet now consists of almost all organic foods, right down to raw dairy, and 100% grassfed beef with no hormones or vaccines. Organic chicken is also on the menu. It's a difficult diet to keep at first, but I find that if I stick with it, the occasional fast food or restaurant has less if not no affect on me. I can go into more detail if you like via email. I know how hard it is to deal with this but it took me years to find a solution so if I can help anyone's learning curve I will gladly do so. ***this post is edited by moderator *** ***

I have been dealing with this for years also!! Through trial and error, I found out that it is very very important to stay away from salt and greasy foods!! And also exercise daily. HOWEVER, IF YOU DRINK MILK WHEN THIS IS HAPPENING,(2 CUPS WORKS FOR ME) WITHIN 15 MIN, IT WILL GO AWAY!
I had this same thing happen to me...The first time it happened I had just finished breakfast, I normally dont use salt because I am already on a beta blocker but some one else did ( toproyl (metapropyl). The faster I raced to the hospital the faster it got.At ER, everything is perfect, went four times in one month, said it was anxieties, I do run a business, have a 30 year old son going out of the country alone who have never been across the street more or less to Brazil, I have twins did I say they are 15 and a new worker in my day care and a boyfriend who wants a lot of my time.So holter monitor, comes up normal. I did notice it only happens after I eat....I am over weight 6' 1 300lbs. 46yrs old. yes when I eat I get real sleep especially around 2pm{ they claim i had sleep apnea, got the machine, very light apnea) so I thought maybe I am a diabetic or hypoglycemic so I bought test strips BUT when this happened I would take REAL HONEY which son suggested and yes it would amazingly STOP! so I started to try the sugar tablets that helped a little but one time it made me use the bathroom like craz, so i stopped, Doctor took test I am not a diabetic. Praise God! This is what I noticed a little of everyone story with me.........It happens after I eat, during the day it makes me sleepy, at night rapid heart beat, anxiety and blood pressure elevated and rapid heart beat with feeling faint because blood pressure is elevated and heart rate is to........I do have reflux the kind that stays at the throat never comes up, don't even know it's there, it's there when sitting, standing and walking. so I started to take something for that.THIS IS WHAT I DO))))))I AM NOT A DOCOTOR, I am a owner of a daycare))))))))stay still notice that its happening, know that they have already stated you are fine and you are not going to die))))))) 1. I take my blood pressure medicine in the morning or afternoon and not at night or at the time of this happening 2. I do not take antacid{ this only helps for 30 minutes} (I use prilosec and Zantac) other forms for Reflux, indegestion or sour stomach and heartburn etc. Zantac is for quick fix and prilosec is for over time so I used both for three days and now just prilosec to manage.3. I DO NOT eat late 6pm is a good cut off time, after this it's hard to digest food and symptoms will occur.4. I Stay away from caffiene, sugars, greasy food, salt and if i do it is not after 6pm.....I am learning and have the desire to eat more fruit and vegetables and plenty of water, I stay away from chinese food if at all possible, I walk if possible after eating or do sitting excersise any movement helps to digest food even if i have to do in bed or chair.5.I did notice eating yogurt and drinking milk soothes and calms this down. (thought my ulcer was back).6.. If it is an emergency I will call 911 immediately I AM NOT A DOCTOR... THIS IS WHAT HAS WORKED FOR ME.............. If you would like to talk more e-mail me at _[removed]_
Hello, I know its been awhile since this post. I was wondring if you ever had an official diagnosis?
I have the same issue my drs keep calling it anxiety attacks but I looked into it and came up with reactive hypoglycemia look into it and good luck God bless.
I would look into POTS
Check your b12 level. If it is low, that could be what is causing all these problems. It is worth a try.
trust me guys i feel the pain with you im 20 years of age and i also been going to this i smoke and i drink at party (I know im not) but im young and yolo is the motto but i been going threw this for 4 1/2 MONTHS NOW and i cant deal as soon as im done eating a nice meal my heart jus beats hard i tested my heart rate and it was 70 bpm and i was like thank you!!! but my heart flutters at time and this event when i feel this heart discomfort and beats its here and there now but it happen again tonight i had 2 ekg and been to the ER 3 times and they cant help me so i went to get me a real doctor thats gone try to help me out he took my blood and gave me a EKG lol smh it came back fine but i wish that my doctor can fell what i feel so he will know what is wrong with me because i know its not normal!!!!!!! well i go back to the doctor on thursday wish me luck 6-14-12
I have been dealing with this problem for atleast 15 years now and have had all kinds of test and nothing but told anxiety or also the MSG deal. Well I went to an after hour doctors office and was telling the doctor about what happens after I eat and the symptoms, heart racing, flushed, anxious, bowel symptoms, dry mouth, and sometimes confusion if its really bad and this can last from an hour to 4 hours at a time, then I'm back to normal. I was told I have "Dumping Syndrome" look it up. You don't have to have gastro bypass to have this it's something about the hormones in your stomach that causes this and I can eat the same meal day after day and one day I'm fine and the next I'm not. I was told to control my diet by no high suger foods and stay away from heavy dinners like pasta. I have been doing alot better. I hope this helps, I also have been to the hospital many times for high heart rate and they don't have any answers. I switched to this new doctor, cause I feel he has saved me from going crazy, there is actually something wrong. Also, if your boarder line diebetic this also contributes to the Dumping Syndrome. Now go and tell your doctor what they should have already figured out. Good Luck
