I had one of these.... I don't remeber what they are called, but to be honest I was told not to touch it and it would go away. I did that and was fine. I know it's uncomfortable, but poking isn't helping

I have had a Brazilian done a number of times as a beauty therapist in training and had one not so long ago. I have now a massive ingrown but where I have exfoliates it has now opened up like I have cut a slit through the middle. This to me is a new thing and am slightly worried. unfortunately I am a big girl so unable to bend over and have a good look but it is sore and now weeping. I haven't touched it with my fingers as that can cause infection but the best thing is to exfoliate and moisturize with antibacterial cream. Leave it alone and it will go eventually. You can always visit a beautician to remove the hair if there is one.

I'm dealing with that scenario right now.I'm a virgin who isn't doing any sexual contact. However not long ago about 2-3 months ago i found a small lump in my pubic area, I shrugged it off as nothing but recently it started to inflame. Jumping to conclusion i thought it was cancer but that idea is ludicrous. I wanted to know if you pop it and disinfect it regularly would it get better ?

It is folliculitis - nothing major. Go see your GP if it bothers you - they'll remove it.

Its an ingrown hair that has been infected. Nothing major

It's true. An ingrown hair is no emergency. See a doctor. Personally, I'd try a topical antibiotic first before paying a doctor bill, but that's my opinion and I am not a medical professional, only a normal person giving common sense advice on a VERY common issue. Misspellings or not, I agree with person above: Do not crowd up the ER or waste your money and your time for something as benign as an ingrown hair. If you're super worried about it or uncomfortable, see your GP.

Also Emergencies is spelled wrong as well... just thought I'd add that piece with the rest. With spelling like that, I wonder where they received their doctorate. WOW!

That sounds like a cyst. Non cancerous, and benign. If it doesn't go away in 1-2 weeks or increases in size see you General Practitioner, Nurse Practitioner or Gyno if applicable. I know this comment was posted a while ago. This is for anyone who is coming across this now and is look for non professional advice :)

Actually my ingrown hair got infected and caused cellulitis and the ED took me immediately. You must be uneducated when it comes to the medical field. Think again and do more research before you post an ignorant comment like that.

Omg I don't even know where to start. I just had the worst experience with an ingrown hair. I'm 30 and it's been an excruciating experience. Uv had my ingrown for about 3 weeks and it kept getting bigger and bigger. I tried popping it but could barely touch it because it hurt so bad. I got my gf to try and pop it too. No dice. Too painful. I ended up going to the medi clinic and it was def an ingrown. The Dr offered to cut it and I regretted saying no today. She put me on meds for infection and I carried on. it was infected. But today.... Walking around all day it was soooo painful and it felt pressurized like it needed to be drained... I went back to the clinic and the doctor cut it open and squeezed it really hard twice. Blood and stuff came out. I didn't see. But it was the most painful thing ever. Now I'm sore but it feels better.... But still hurts. I hope it heals up okay. Let's just say my shaving days are over..... I don't want to deal with that ever again. I hope the hair escaped :( and yes ingrown hairs can cause fevers and other symptoms of left untreated. The doctor told me at the clinic if I spoke a fever to speed down to ER. Infections can cause problems. I'm also diabetic so any things possible. So those of you saying ingrowns aren't worth a trip to ER? If the infection is bad enough and you have a fever and stuff I would go. I'm on heavy duty antibiotics now for infection. And it was embarrassing as hell to go to the clinic and whip my junk out and be like " here look at my ingrown!!!" ... It's life. :)

Some instances may require an emergency visit. As a medical p-r-o-f-e-s-s-i-o-n-a-l you should know that every situation is different and that most places are not open at night or on the weekends. You should also know that when symptoms that may require you medical treatment arise out of nowhere it's to your advantage to not ignore until your doctor is open again. The reason the price of ER visits is growing is NOT because people make unnecessary trips there but because of greed from health care providers and suppliers. If you are currently still one of these so called professionals, I hope that myself and anyone I know does not have to ever have you as a nurse or doctor as your lack of empathy for anyone is pretty obvious. You must be one of those that diagnose without really assisting the patient because you fear of not getting paid or you ensure you get paid for more than what the patient actually needs. You should never tell anyone to avoid care before even knowing their whole situation or even seeing them for that matter.
