I used proactive for over a year almost everyday when i would take showers and one day i used it like normal and i had rashes all over my face/neck and my eyes were swollen. I took benadryl and it went away the next day but now everytime i use it i react. Ive always had pretty good skin with little acne and the proactive helped keep my skin looking clear. Ever since i stopped using proactive though my face has gradually gotten worse. So ive been trying other kinds of acne stuff like clearasil and noxema with salicylic acid but nothing is working at all. My acne has gotten so bad ive reosrted to using proactive on my forehead only and only using a little and its been fine. I mean ive only been doing it for the past two days but so far i havent broken out and im also trying not to scratch or touch my face to irritate it. Im assuming im allergic to the benzoyl peroxide because my mom gave me this mary kay acne spot treament with benzoyl in it and i even broke out to that too.

I used proactive when I was 15 for the first time on next morning after using it for the first time my face was cover in red dry skin that itched. It was like serve sunburn water even made my skin burn. It took 2 wks for my face to get better after peeling like crazy and flaking.

It was the worst thing every.

Since then My skin has never been the same.

The only thing now that i can wash my face with is dove soap and other soap will breka me out again.

I used to tan and take the sun very well on my face now if i'm out at the beach for an hour my face will turn red swollen and rash like and the same thing happens with my lips which is not fun at all!

Make up that i used to be able to wear breaks me out ALL liquid foundation I mean i could go on forever proactive seriously ruined my skin and I'm 21 now so it's been long enough for it to got back to normal.

The same thing happend to me....
I have mild acne & I used a variety of acne products like:

neotrogena
proactive
and etc.

I'd been useing proactive off and on for a year now and out of the clear blue my eyes got really puffy, itchy and red on the outskirts.

Heres what i found out:
Proactive is an extremely harsh chemical. Don't use proactive anymore if you have experience any of these symptoms. You are more then likely having a harsh allergy reaction. Throw away the proactive and don't use it on any part OF YOUR FACE OR BODY anymore!

I used pro-active last night for the first time... woke up this morning with my face.. red.. itchy.. swollen and puffy.. its been like this all day..ice really helps keep the burning and itching from borthing me as much... but DO NOT put any type of cream ,lotion or oils on your face if you have a bad reaction to pro-active it makes it worst.. go to your doctor or let it go away naturally.... ice is really the best thing actually...

I am so surprised to hear about so many other having the same or almost the same experience as me.

I used Proactiv for about a year straight. My face was relatively more clear than before, although it was no where near perfect. It was extremely dry and I would still get occassional break-outs and scars that took forever to heal. I started getting especially annoyed that I would continuosly break out on my forehead. So I switched to Sephora Skin Care. My skin was okay until about a month later, when my skin broke out severely... on my forehead, of course! Eventually, I decided that I should try some Proactiv again. Horrible idea. That night, after using Proactiv, I started feeling a little tingling and then later stinging on sides of my face. I didn't think much of it, and I went to bed. The next morning, I woke up with one disfigured, swollen eye and my entire face (especially my jawling and the sides of my cheeks) was burning, stinging, red, and itchy. I looked horrible. I ended up not going to work that day.

After the swelling and pain didn't go away by the first day, I saw the doctor the second day. She told me it was an allergic reaction to something. Since I had used Proactiv before for so long, I didn't think it was that. So my doc recommended I switch to a hypoallergenic detergent. Since that reaction, which was about a month ago, I have been using Cetaphil and Kiss My Face Olive Oil face bar. Since then, I have been breaking out notoriously, so yesterday I decided to slather on some Proactiv moisturized after washing with Cetaphil. Again, horrible idea. I felt that tingling sensation on my face again, and the next morning I woke up with that same eye swollen and my entire face was burning, stinging, red, and itchy. Now I KNEW what caused it. It was quite obvious. I hate throwing away this stuff. It was expensive. I also have another brand new set that Proactiv sent me. I threw away the box, but do you think Proactiv will give me my money back and take back the unopened products if I explain to them that I am having allergic reactions to their products?

I am NEVER using Proactiv again. :-(

I'm so bummed. I really thought I was doing something worthwhile and special for myself by ordering/using proactiv. The first day I felt this tingling sensation, but it kind of burned. I didn't think anything of it. The second day, same thing only I was breaking out with "under the skin" acne - not quite noticeable, but I figured it was just hormonal or something. Today, it burned again, but went on with my day -I put on my origins makeup... etc then when I got to work my cheeks were super itchy and red. Around my eyes stung like a sunburn. Now my face is so dry and I feel like I've put toxic chemicals on my face. I have. I will be going to Sprouts Farmers Market and going the all-natural route. Wish I could get my money back...

Too bad....that's the common result of using their products...sad experience for you...if you want to minimize the swelling & redness try applying milk on your face (any cold milk at that) then leave on for 10 - 15 mins then rinse off with water...it'll minimize the swelling then do away with redness... if you want to try some cream check out eyecreamreviews then go for the products that suits you... I only use Lifecell & Olay Regenerist Night Recovery Moisturizing Cream on my face and got the skin i wanted... renewed, smooth, silky and young looking :-D

I too just got proactiv about a week ago. Within the first 24-36 hours that I tried proactiv my face became red and itchy - it even felt like my face was on fire. I stopped using the product about 3 days ago and my skin is still itchy and still burns. In my research online I'm finding that allergic reactions to proactiv are more common than i thought they were.

ive been using proactiv for awhile and ive recently just had a allergic reaction which surprised me..took me awhile to find out my problem..i used one of the kit things for about 3 days to see what it was..it was the toner, the repairing lotion, green tea moisturizer..so then i went ok what do these things all have in them..allantoin.i only have a reaction when i use all 3 of them..like your supposed to.its too much allantoin for my face..hopefully they can make a proactiv with out that in it or reduce the amount in it.but i would do what i did..use 1 thing for a little while and if nothing happens cross that off your list until you find out what your allergic to..and if its more then 1 thing then write down the ingredients they both have in common.also wait to use another item if your face is allergic still because then you might not know if that new item is it too.

I used Proactiv and I actually was complimente on my skin! It was so fabulous... and then of course, a few weeks later I was all itchy and one morning I woke up to a swollen face. I've been told it was probably an "allergic reaction" to the benzoyl peroxide, but does anyone have a product that's similar but without the benzoyl peroxide? IT WAS SO GREAT FOR THE FIRST MONTH OR SO!!!

i've just started and it is working fine
i was just a little concerned because after i use it my face goes red and stings a little but thats just normal from the exfoliation and stuff right?
i did notice that it produced creases under my eyes but i think thats from the dryness so i'm not using it there and moisturising that area. otherwise after 4 days no new pimples are forming and and my present ones are dryinG and dissappearing fast.
I hope to god i don't get a reaction!
