Vinegar Allergy!

Anyone, get this same thing happen to them after consuming evn small amounts of vinegar..? So I am an avid eater of vinergar and cucumbers or vinegar and lettuce, shortly afterward I get a stuffy nose and congested head. I associated this together a few months ago but was in denial of me having an allergy to vinegar, I noticed it happened every time after eating italian dressing. I soon narrowed it down to the vinegar. Wow what a deal. I have gone 30+ years without knowing I have this small allergy to vinegar, anyone else have the same thing, and what are your symptoms..?

Yours is the ONLY post about Vinegar allergic reactions that refers to the gut / "gastro". I am wondering if my vomiting & diarrhea, very recent symptoms are related to a new allergy to Balsamic Vinegar? ANYONE with these types of symptoms on this site? Lynn
I also sweat on my face/scalp when I eat things like ketchup chips.  Strange enough it also happens with fruit.  Really ripe strawberries or fruit pie filling will get me every time.
Vinegar makes me feel very unwell, tired and with upset gut. I know it's candida, so have cut it out of my diet. 
Vinegar in salad dressing or any other dressing makes my eyelids and area underneath my eyes become red and swollen and the area around my mouth becomes red. It takes days for my skin to calm down and it always peels before all the inflammation is gone. Antihistamines are not helpful--only prednisone. I know I have a Candida sensitivity and all "mold" products do the same thing (mushrooms, etc.) Does anyone else have these dermatologic symptoms?
Hello,   My symptoms from consuming anything with vinegar is non stop cough, if concentrated my through closes and I can not breath.  Fill like fish out of water.  I always noticed that when eating with ketchup I would cough a few times.  Then the other day I ate chicharrones with vinegar/salt.  Suddenly I was gasping for air, try to call 911 but I could not speack, try water but did not help, I just shove my finger in my throat and physically open it.  But I still did not know it was an ellergic reaction.  Then a few weeks later while telling my story to a friend who was eating vinegared chicharrones, I grab one and ate it, and my throat closeda again. I panicked, and did the finger thing again.  thats when I realized am allergic to vinegar.   I used to make fun of people allergic to peanuts, now I undertand. lol
I am 70 years old and just recently realized I have a vinegar allergy. My back breaks out and it itches like crazy. I tried everything and the only thing that helps is a product called Prosacea. It is 1% sulphur. Sulphur, Sulfa and sulfates are all different. I'm also very allergic to sulfa. I've had it slightly on my back for years. I started drinking Braggs organic vinegar with water to lower my blood sugar when it hit me with a vengeance. I thought it was bug bites it itched so bad. That's when I tied it into the vinegar. I went a whole winter with no rash for the first time in years, then after using the organic vinegar all hell broke loose. In winter I also don't eat hamburgers or hotdogs or pickles so it must have finally cleared up. Now I have to be very careful.      
I get that hot flushing feeling too! Didn't know what it was. I ate dinner out the other night and the waiter brought me an aged balsamic vinegar to put on my salad. Boy did that make me flush...never knew it was an allergy.
Anyone with any kind of reaction to vinegar, stop eating it immediately. At anytime you can have an anaphylactic shock reaction. This just happened to me and I almost died. This is nothing to fool around with. For years vinegar made my throat itchy, and that was it. Recently is has been making me cough, I still ignored it, then today I had one bit of ketchup and I was in full blown anaphylactic shock.  Pretty scary, now I have to carry and epi pen at all times. I will be seeing and allergist this week. Don't think this is nothing and ignore it.
hi simmer sage, dried sage is fine, say for half-an-hour. cool to tepid and strain through a muslin lined collander. strain twice if you want. after shampooing with a sulfide free shampoo preferably, towel dry. rinse the sage water over a bowl catching it as you go. do this over and again until you feel enough is enough. wrap in a dark towel. the sage water will colour anything an unsightly brown is spilled and can be messy. HOWEVER, the hair will eventually turn ash blonde in time. i concentrate on the roots and scalp. when wrapped in the towel the liquid will cover the whole of the hair. leave the towel in place until there are no drips and let dry naturally. rinse and let dry. you will find your own way. this is how i do it and receive compliments now and again for the lovely colour of my hair i.e. "it looks so natural" x. enjoy! ps. make sure you condition your hair regularly inbetween. good luck
I have also ate vinegar and cucumbers since I was a child, and have always remembered sweating, still to this day. I never thought much of it. I recently heard vinegar helps flush your sysem, so maybe sweating after consuming vinegar is a way for your body to get rid of the toxins.
It really is very, very, unlikely that you are allergic to vinegar. Vinegar is dilute acetic acid - a very simple organic molecule. Allergic reactions rely on your immune system recognising and reacting to a molecule. CH3COOH (acetic acid) is much too small to do this. Not only that, it's a simple molecule that is very easily broken down and will largely be lost in the bath of hydrochloric acid aka your stomach! However, vinegar comes attached to lots of other more complex molecules - and it is completely possible that you are allergic to them. For example 'organic cider vinegar' has pection and apple proteins aplenty - a much more likely source of your allergen. You've all probably noticed a cider vinegar throwing a deposit? That's not the acetic acid. Most vinegars involve a fermentation process on a substrate eg apple, malt or grapes. With all of these there will be trace protein: gluten from barley malt, grape proteins and fungal proteins from grapes - and apple proteins from apples! So, if you know that you are allergic/intolerant to any of these things [or experiment and find out] - avoid those vinegars. White vinegar or spirit vinegar has a lower trace protein content than all the others. In the USA especially it is often made from sugar cane. The acetic acid content veries from 4-8% - the white spirit vinegar being the most concentrated. You would probably want to dilute this before using it on pickles! So blaming the vinegar isn't great chemistry :) but, more importantly, may be hiding an allergen from the original plant source - and that may be affecting you in all kinds of ways. Coeliacs for example are recommended never to use malt vinegar for that reason. Simples.
Quick qualifier :) metals - simple compounds canc ause allergic reactions - but these are not organic compounds such as acetic acid (which is easily broken down).
We have the same reaction of vinegar allergies, my lips turns to redish and swell.after it went to mouth ulcer/cankers, It takes a week to healed. I can feel hot in my body and feel uneasy.Before when I don't discover it all I thought it was just normal irritation but after a long time everytime I eat food with vinegar it goes swelling and mouth ulcer. It was started 2009 when I eat food with condiments with vinegar. Now I always bring anti allergies(loratidine). I really thought it's only me suffering of this kind of allergy coz no one here I've known are suffering the same. Exra careful when eating in restaurants always ask serve only food with no vinegar.
Well as above. Please look carefully at the kind of vinegar that has done this - you may have an allergy to a much more likely and serious suspect. Dressings are full of other ingredients! Some people also have v sensitive membranes to all acids - and lemon juice or citric acid can do this - again rare - and it's not immune system moderated - and not an allergy. Final thing - if you have ever drunk alcohol without a reaction it v v unlikely that you are allergic to vinegar! When you drink alcohol your body makes and enzyme called alcohol dehydrogenase... the alcohol moves to the aldehyde and then to....acetic acid! So you make your own. Very, very rarely there is a breakdown in this metabolism and the body fails to break these molecules correctly - in that case, there's an outside chance that you may have an issue with acetic acid... But honestly -- look for related suspects - because they could affect you elsewhere. Bio
A couple of days ago I was eating some Salt and Vinegar potato chips, which I love, and I think I had a serious reaction to them for the first time in my life.  Very soon after eating, probably too many, my lips started to pucker and were cracked on the inside of my mouth.   I used the bathroom and there was blood in my urine.  Then I started to perspire, especially on my head.  I started to get very shaky, my breathing got very shallow, my head, hands, and feet started to itch very badly.  I thought I was having a low blood sugar episode.  I took my glucose reading and blood pressure and both were normal.  I thought I was going to pass out and was ready to call 911 but I wasn't thinking too clearly.  I took a cool shower and was barely able to dress after drying off.  My vision also seemed to be affected.  Instead of calling 911, I phoned my wife who had gone shopping just before this episode began.  I told her I was going to call for help and she suggested I call but take a Benadryl tablet immediately.  I followed her advice and the Benadryl started to straighten me out very soon after I took it.  My hands and soles of my feet were still very itchy and showed what seemed to be Hives, which I can't remember ever having in my life.  I used some anti-itch cream which my wife had used before for mosquito bites.  I didn't call 911 , which I should have done, and everything but the blood in my urine lasted til this morning.  All else seems to be normal again.  I don't know if this was related to my suspected reaction or not.  If anything happens again I hope I won't be stupid and just call 911.  I am a 72 year old, relatively healthy male, but just wasn't thinking too clearly.
