No reason to get offensive over an eating choice.

Yep, same story with me. After the surgery last March and the initial period of ultra-low fat diet I started eating more normally, and yet didn't regain the 20 pounds I lost. Six months on, I still struggle to gain a pound. The weight loss has been in both body fat and muscle mass. I take protein powder, eat meat and eggs, but the results are negligible. No doctor says anything about this, as you get the usual "back to normal" mantra, and it's very hard to find info on the net. My guess is that the weight loss is due to a change in the metabolism, that accelerates digestion, causes more frequent bowel movements (for me one after every meal), and makes it hard to absorb fats, to the fact that after the operation almost everyone is more careful about their diet.

Yes, I've lost 27 lbs, in 5 months. It's a very scary feeling. This is why I decided to find a forum, to see if it's only me.

Hi,
I have had the same problem. I have had my gallbladder out 11 months ago and have lost 54 pounds now and keep losing weight!! I went back to the Dr. she said it could be the “clip” placement. I also need to see a gastroenterologist as well. My PCP is very concerned bc my live enzymes are elevated as well. HELP!!!

I have dropped about 15 pounds since surgery a few months ago. I have a smaller capacity and continue to eat healthily.

I was 64 when I had my gallbladder removed which was enlarged-infected-full of stones and had ruptured. Within 8 hours I went from ok to terrible chest pain. Thought I was having a heart attack. Had the surgery and came and immediately I started loosing weight. Diarrhea for 2 weeks and lost over 30 pounds. Beginning weight was approximately 189 pounds and ended at about 149 pounds. One year later I’m at 156 pounds. And struggling to stay there. What has happened and why so hard to gain weight.

Just had mine removed this past Tuesday March 20th. I have always had a healthy diet so have no clue how I ended up getting gallstones......... Anyway, I have lost a few pounds......3 - 4 since before the surgery. I always seem to be hungry now, for some reason...... but following my diet and adding new foods a little at a time

I have done a ton of research regarding gallbladder surgeries. I do believe you have loose stools because your body is not able to process fats like it did prior to your surgery. I have had every GI condition there is, and currently have colitis, which also creates very loose stools with a lot of water. I feel our systems have to recover from the change in the way it processes fat, and weight loss is sometimes due to diets for these conditions that change your whole system into a different direction.
