Thought I'd share my story so far.

Short version for the attention challenged (like me):

Just had surgery 6 days ago, and have lost 13 pounds. But I'm quite overweight to begin with. I'm hoping the weight loss continues for me. Surgery went very well. The day after was the worst in terms of discomfort, but every day after has been significantly better than the last. I'm almost feeling back to normal at day 6. They told me it was good that I had it out when so did.

Long version:

I had a gallbladder attack in my early 20's. They did an ultrasound, and saw several stones. I had been on a very strict no-fat diet for about a year (terrible idea I now know). My carrot after a year was a big mac - not good. I thought I had food poisoning. I don't need to tell you guys about the pain, you've been there. So before surgery I got another ultrasound, and they said the stones were gone. I didn't have a good feeling about the surgeon anyway - he seemed tired and burnt out.. So I cancelled the surgery. I theorized that during the diet the bile stagnated, and when I finally ate something fatty, they worked themselves out. Well, I'm now 45, and had another attack. This time was different from the last. I had pretty bad sweats and shortness of breath. I thought I was having a heart attack, and went to the ER. Turned out I was having another gallbladder episode. The episode passed while I was in the hospital, so they sent me home and said I needed to schedule surgery. But if I had a fever above 101 to come back. The next night I got well above 101 so I went back in. Thankfully the same doctor was on duty, so I didn't need to start from scratch. She was going to send me straight to surgery, but my white counts were lower and my fever had died down, so at the last minute they decided to schedule it a few days out instead. It was a pretty straight forward process. I walked in the door at 11:00am, and was out the door at 4pm. The doc said I had some huge calcified stones - likely very old ones they missed at the ultrasound 20 years ago. He said my gallbladder was blocked and not even functionioning, and was filled with infection 'yuck' and it was a good thing I got it out when I did. The first couple of days I was pretty tender (the day after was the worst of it, but still pretty manageable - hard things were rolling over in bed and getting up from the couch). I was up and moving around pretty easily by the third day, and every day since has been better than the last. It's now 6 days, and I feel almost back to normal. I haven't been eating a lot - lots of snacking on small stuff and meal replacement shakes. (the 180 calorie equate ones from wal mart have been great). I haven't been eating that way because I had to.. I just haven't been hungry. Today I had my first regular meal. Rice and salmon. No problems so far, though I can feel it working through a little quicker than normal. Since my gallbladder attack I've lost 13 pounds. Which I am actually really excited about as I had been holding steady at 325 for a few years, no matter what I ate. And I'm not a terribly bad eater. I nearly always eat the same choices and portions as my wife, who is around 130lbs. We cook relatively healthy on average but would cheat and get takeout once or twice a week. Sometimes weeks without takeout. Sometimes takeout half the week, really depending on how burnt out we were from work and felt like cooking. But no matter what streak we were in I stayed solid at 325, give or take a random 2 lbs. I'm actually hoping a lot of these big weight loss stories I'm reading here happen to me, as it's very difficult for me to lose weight any other way. My body seemed to really like being at 325 no matter what I did. I haven't seen 312 on a scale in years. Anyway, that's my experience so far. Should be interesting to experiment and see what I can tolerate.

To anyone worried about the surgery, the surgery part itself really wasn't that bad.

I see a lot about loose stool on here. I'm actually having the opposite effect. I'm only able to go every 2-3 days and its super hard and really painful till I'm totally empty. then whole process repeats 2-3 days later and laxatives arn't do much in terms of helping. My post op check up is this week and I'ma bring it up then. But I find it a bit odd i'm having the opposite effect. I was 238lbs right before the surgery and am now 230 so i have lost a little but nothing to be too happy about

I had my gallbladder removed 6 weeks ago and lost 25lbs. Although I am loving the weight loss, I am concerned my body is not absorbing the nutrients necessary for my health. That is a lot of weight to loose in such a short time.

I hope I will lose some weight after my surgery! 3 years ago I lost 15kg in 8 months and then in about 4 months I gained 20 back! I have been going to the gym 5 days a week and not eating too u healthily and cannot lose more than a couple pounds! Its been driving me mad and making me depressed! Diagnosed with gallstones in June as I kept telling doc something must be wrong and I started getting pain and extreme fatigue so am finally getting surgery in November. Am I likely too loose weight ?? My surgeon said weight gain isn't caused by gallstones and that gall stones are caused by obesity but surely if I'm not digesting any food and not loaing weight there muat be a link! I hope I will lose some weight in 20kg over weight and I don't eat excessively or drink alcohol I'm vegetarian so sometimes eat more cheese than I should but that's about it! Hope I can start losing weight after my surgery so going to gym is actually worthwhile!

I had gallbladder operation Dec 6 2019 , and then I had 10 teeth removed in May 2020 and I now lost 23 lbs,, and I am worried,, but I had blood work done June 4 2020,, and for 6 weeks after my dental surgery, I could not eat nothing but soft food,, and also was going to bed earlier, and not eating after 8 pm,, but I did not try to lose weight,,,I am 79 and my daughter said it is because of my change in eating habits, and not eating late at night which I use to do before March 2020,,, do you think this is normal??

I had gallbladder surgery and I'm still losing weight 5 months later. Is that normal? Sometimes I have an appetite and sometimes I don't.
