Hi. I had the on both sides in 2011. Both anterior. I was great for about 6months, then I started getting pain in my upper thighs. My dr said it was tendinitis and to wait it out. It got worse. A year later I went back into pt and they said it was scar tissue. Twice a week they do a very deep tissue type massage which hurts like heck, but it does help. What worries me is thatstar topped pt about a month ago and now the pain and weakness is increasing again. The pain happens when I lift my legfeel an walk just fine, it's everything else I can't do. I am 46, I just want my strength back! Has anyone else had this?

I found after 3 THR in my R hip and a new one in my L hip that all surgeons are not perfect.  Relief was found by an Orthopedic surgeon In Georgetown Hospital in D.C. who specializes in repairing others mistakes .  He gave me relief.

I am 65 years old and I have 2 artificial hips.  I had the 1st one replaced in November of 2009, the 2nd in March of 2012.  After full recovery of the 1st one, I had absolutely no pain.  About 14-15 months after the 2nd one, I began to have pain in both thighs.  It is not constant.  Sometimes when I get up in the morning and get to the kitchen, it nearly takes my breath away, but eventually subsides/goes away and I go on about my business.  Occasionally in the evening, the same thing happens.

I have wondered if it is my weight, as I am about 15 pounds over my ideal weight....maybe it is the way I walk, maybe it is the way the artificial apparatus is seated in my femur.........I don't know.

I do know this: the pain I have now does not in any way compare to the pain before my surgeries!  Back then, I could not bare to walk any distance at all and I surely could not stand in one place for any length of time.

As bad as it hurts, I realize I am better..........much better!  I am thankful!  and I appreciate each of you who have contributed to this site to comfort me in my distress!  "Not knowing" is scary!  After reading all of these entries, I realize I am not alone.

Thank you all!

my sister encounter identical "classic" symptoms ask your surgeon to xray and see if there is movement or microvibrations around stem. a bone stimulator might be the answer

In march I will be one year out from my left hip replacement. I have had severe thigh and knee pain. I have been back for all kinds of shots in the hip and knee. Nothing is helping. I am so frustrated...I wish I had some answers. I had my right hip done a year ago December. Its doing great with no pain. Good luck to you..

same for me, sent home told nothing wrong all in my mind, referred to a large teaching hospital, they found out I was a. allergic to the metal in the hip replacement and because one leg was longer than the other the new hip joint had almost worn itself out in 4 years, last year underwent a revision had ceramic implant and plastic cup and am now pain free, hope this helps.

Tanya, I went through the same thing. Have had mine replaced 3 times in 9 years. I was 39 the first time. Turns out I had metal poisoning from the 1st two. I went through 3 years of doctors telling me I was fine based in X-rays. My chiropractor took a standing X-ray and painted out to me that the cup was loose. Went to Hopkins to get that fixed.... Amazing how hard it is to get an ortho to take a standing X-ray, and then it's "oh, look at that, it's loose and falling out of the socket to boot". So, Hopkins replaces the cup, which had not grown into the bone at all ( the reason it did t show up on dye test), and puts an even bigger cobalt ball on there and notes that there are metal shavings in the soft tissue but rinses it off and sends me on my way. 4 more years of hell and docs telling me it's perfect and I have my GP test for metals. 14 times normal and orthos still say no problem! Finally found Dr. Young Min Kwon at mass general in Boston and he replaces it a third time. Be this time, metal had eaten away a lot of bone and about half the muscle and soft tissue. Cobalt is a nuerotoxin. I have brain damage, hearing and vision loss, and a list of other problems too long to list. Bottom line is that you have to fight for yourself. My first hip was a Zimmer versys metal on plastic device that is supposedly safe? Most other developed nations have long banned the use of cobalt and chromium, but in the US the manufacturers pay off the FDA and the orthos. New research show that metal on plastic is very bit as dangerous as metal on metal, because of the modular design at the neck junction, or trunuon. Get your metals tested and don't accept no for an answer. Go to Boston, or Dr. Towers in Alaska, or try to find an ortho that doesn't take consulting fees (hush money) from the device makers! Good luck!!

I am nine months out from my 2nd hip replacement.  The first a full metal replacement has been perfect.  The second was ceramic and metal.  I have had nothing but continuous pain. Limited flexibility and just can't get back to any kind of normal routine.  My pain is mid thigh, worse when I walk or exercise and almost nonexistent when at rest.  I am 43 and not sure if I should waste time going to the doctor  since most posts they seem to find nothing helpful

I had a right anterior THR in March.  Was fine and then in end of May began having severe pain and difficulty - diagnosed with psoas tendonitis and then bursitis of the greater trochanter.  My surgeon suggested I "rest" the hip.  I am slender 71 year old activewoman.  Have had other orthopedic surgeries due to fractures and a knee replcement which all went well.  What happened? What can I do?

I also am having the same thing, did great right away after the hip replacement, now I am in severe pain down the front of my thigh, when I get up in the morning I cant walk. I am getting worse and the doctor has taken x-rays, and says it all looks ok, My physical therapist was worried and told me to stop coming and go to my doctor, so I went to see the doctor again, and he says I should ask the physical therapist what's wrong, The doctor says, well we took an x-ray last month so just come back in two months and hopefully the pain will be gone by then, he did mention the word hip impingement, I looked that up on here and its caused my the wrong size replacement or not placing the hip replacement properly, I think I couldn't understand all of the terminology. Have you found out anything, I had replacement in Rancho Mirage at Eisenhower hospital by Dr. Bell on May 12 , 2014, I started feeling the pain in July.

I tried many medicines. Cortisone shots twice but they are bad for the body and limited to 2-3 per year. Last varying amounts of time Morphene for 1 mon. along with physical therapy helped some. Walking daily and still doing p.t.exercises daily. Have severe pain in right upper thigh when not enough med.
