Hi. I notice while I'm in bed (laying in all positions) a wheezing or gurgling sound when I exhale. Anyone familiar with this?

Definately not alone, I had severe acute bronchitis this past December. I also have been experiencing wheezing and a heavy feeling in my chest when I am lying down, not as often in an up right postion though. I am beginning to think that it has developed into chronic bronchitis, which can happen if the convalesing period is not adhered to, not to mention allergens, and exhaust. I do live near a congested high and most recently was employed in a senior living facility, lots of coughing there.
I am afraid you delude yourself if you think that a BMI of 36 and it's not having an effect on your breathing. Lose 60 llbs and get your weight down to normal, and I'm sure the problem will go.
Yours is the only answer that sounded like it may be my problem...I was diagnosed with 'tracheitis' last year, took Z-pack and Prednisone...now it's back again, so I'm assuming from your post that the problem is my trachea. Lungs are clear. Thanks for your post...T.
I had the same problem and actually found a solution that worked for me. I stopped smoking and a few months later I started wheezing when I exhaled while laying down. It got to the point where if I didn't take a sleeping pill the wheezing noise would keep me awake at night ( my husband too!). My doctor thought it was chronic bronchitis, even though I produced very little phlegm. I started on Albuterol and Singulair, which were no help. Then he prescribed Qvar, which is the only thing that worked. I can sleep now. (We ruled out asthma, emphysema and cancer with tests and xrays, and I never had trouble breathing, just the noisy exhalations at night.)
Is there any chance you live in the southwest? Has anyone here been checked for Valley Fever?
I am a 68 year old woma, who has had asthma since I was 13. I've had numerous exerbations & had to be hospitalized. Up until 9 months ago, my asthma was under control using symbicort twice a day. Starting in January I had bronchitis three times. I was put on antibiotics and prednison by my primary four different times and I was never symptom free. One time I went, my cough was so bad, she sent me for a chest X-ray. I am now seeing my pulmonary dr and have been on prednisone for 6 months. Ct scan of my chest show a very small node and was repeated 6 months later & I was told it is nothing to worry about. I have GERD and as of sept. 13, I have been on the strictest GERD diet. I am very proactive, I've seen a cardiologist and had a stress test, saw my gastro dr and had an esophogram and on Monday I am having a broncosopy I don't have any results yet, but being short of breath on prednisone, symbicort, a resue inhaler, as well as, 2 drugs that I nebulize is frightening.
If you have high blood pressure and taking Lisinopril that is what is causing the coughing until you gag syndrome at night. That happened to me.
I get the same problem wheazing when I am Lying down. X-rays show normal! And I spit up white clear phyhem.. I have Gerd which could be contributing factor "called asthma Acidous!! I get itching in my throat and ears. I take a teaspoon of " Hydrogen peroxide " It knocks it out. .Keep in touch!!
Did you ever find out what was wrong? I have the same symptoms for three months now after a series of sinus infections as well!
I found this thread a few weeks ago and was so encouraged that I wasn't the only one dealing with this annoying issue - slight wheezing 75% of the time, tends to be worse at night - or I just notice it more then. I read through A LOT of these replies - but, honestly - not all. I think I've stumbled onto what I think my issue is and I don't recall seeing it in the posts that I read so I'm sharing it. It's called LPR or silent reflux. After reading several sites that describe it - right now - it makes the most sense for what I'm experiencing! Hopefully, it will help you - or you can at least rule it out if it doesn't sound like you! Good luck!!   ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed*** Please read our Terms of Use
Try 2 x 250 Gramm oregano oil capsules twice daily with a 1000mg of big C.
Should say vitamin C
Mine started around the same time that I had heartburn everyday for a year. I had broncitis but it seemed to clear up. I have the wheezing when I exhale when I have broncitis. I mostly have gurgling and strange noises when I lay down at night. I was taking omeprazole for the heartburn and it did take the heartburn away but the wheezing and gurgling is still happening.I try to breath through my nose at night but it seems to always be clogged no matter what I do. I am scared to death It was hard to sleep at first but its been a year now and I guess I am used to it. I have had several Xrays and been to the doc several times they always want me to take steroids it goes away for two weeks and comes right back.
This is an old post but did you ever find relief? It sounds like typical mold poisoning symptoms, exasperated by food allergies or hormonal fluctuations. Remove dairy and any sports drink and excess sugar from your diet, get an Austin HEPA air filter, get checked for mold in your home, and consider getting a naturopath or holistic doctor to do a work up on you. Change your toothbrush every 2 months. Drink more filtered water. Do not eat 3 hours before bed. Get acupuncture to treat the lung.
I can't sleep because of nasal wheezing out my nose
