wheezing while laying down (exhaling only)

My symptoms are very similar to yours. I've been wheezing for about 6 months now and continue to do so even after taking numerous antibiotics, prednisone, and asthma treatments. I used to cough up a little phlegm but since I've been taking the antibiotic Clindamycin my phlegm production has finally stopped. But I still have a nagging cough that comes and goes. My wheezing is sometimes just a wheeze and sometimes worse like a rattle or a rasp or something. And now I have become very hoarse to go along with the tightness in my chest, the wheezing, and the coughing. I've been to the pulmonologist, cardiologist, ENT, and several general medicine practitioners with no better result. I've had X-rays (which found pneumonia once), CT Scans, Respiratory Function tests, and cardiac stress tests and passed them all. Yet I suffer with this chronic congestion, wheezing, coughing, and now a loss of my voice. Doctors say I have allergies and bronchial asthma.....and suffer one bout of bronchitis and sinusitis after another. I recently had sinus surgery to repair a deviated septum and polyps. And now, even though my nasal issues seem to have cleared up, I feel like my upper respiratory problems are worse than ever. I'm not sure where to turn to at this point. I've almost given up on finding a solution to the miseries I have been enduring for more than a year now. It's very frustrating as you can imagine.

Because of the night sweats, you should ask for either chest x Ray or tb test. Don't see your age, could the night sweats be hormonal? I, too, have the wheeze with expiration. Not all the time. I'm guessing it's maybe cardiac (for me) since I don't feel SOB.

I have all the same symptoms and I too am allergic to cat and dog dander!! When we bought our house there was a little mold in the basement that we have since taking care of and I had gotten a whole lot better!! Now my husband the animal lover he is has taking in a chinchilla!! It's not so much the chinchilla but the hay my husband gets for him!! My highest allergic reactions are mold and hay!! I know this is why I wheeze when exhaling but don't have the heart to tell my husband he has to get rid of his pet!! I guess for most people if you are suffering the same symptoms it is probably related to some sort of allergic reaction!!

I know.........no diagnosis. Everyone here is talking about what they have. I've this for months and trying to find out what cause it.

Me too...it's annoying and prevents me from sleeping.

I started having these symptoms two days ago. After reading through every possible cause listed here and other forums I have decided that it is either one of two things. Either there is some foreign object causing blockage possible gotten after using a vape pen for the first time in a long time, or Black Mold sickness. The house I moved into has had a black mold problem for a long time and it is worst in the room I sleep in. Hope its one of these things and good luck to all of you.

I have been having the same symptons, my chest tight, whizzy sound when I lay down, my back left shoulder blade have añ ongoing ache, undr my ribs hurts my abdomen hurst,, I get night sweats, dry cough, went to the ear and found nothing mayor just REFLUX .. I feels as if I have something in my left lungs that they have not able to detect..

My wheezing is so bad when I lay down I can't fall a sleep. I have had this cough for 2 weeks. Went to the gp who sent me for x rays and they found a nubile on the X-ray . They are certain that is not causing the cough maybe it's time to move to a warmer climate

I am experiencing this now. I have been diagnosed with pneumonia. The gurgling sound when exhaling is fluid in the lungs. You may want to get a chest xray. I experienced all the same symptoms as well.

Take Zinc Tablets. I know it sounds crazy - but, it helps with the coughing fits at night. My story is identical to yours.

This is what helped me. I was scared I would be wheezing the rest of my life. When trying to sleep it sounded like a cat or an exorcism. I went through one box of sudafed...then two boxes of Mucinex. During sleep time taking a huge spoon full of pure honey and lemon juice will get ya through the night. The main ingredient was prayer. Only till I got on my knees, and also asked my wife to pray for me...it is finally going away. Two weeks of being scared to death, and now relief. Thank you God.
