Audible noise when moving my eyes

This doesn't happen always, but between 5-10 times a week I will hear (or appear to hear) a noise which vaguely sounds like someone quickly ripping a piece of paper or cloth when I move my eyes from one point to another (left to right, up to down, etc). I guess I'm just trying to figure out is this really happening, or am I suffering from some type of auditory hallucination?
There doesn't seem to be any single set of circumstances it occurs in.
Has anyone heard of anything like this?

I am smiling because you have described such an exact sound, and one I am familiar with. I, too, think it is medication related.

I have this swishing as well when I move my eyes from side to side. I’m getting off Paxil and I’ve tried to get off several times over the years and had the same effect. It’s worse when I don’t get enough sleep.
This has been happening to me too! I have had a really bad headache and been super dizzy today. I feel like if I focus on something too long and then move my eyes everything is delayed for a second and I hear the noise in my ears (like ripping paper). I’m concerned about this, mainly because I went off of cymbalta yesterday (under my psychiatrist’s supervision) and I’m afraid it’s makinf me hear things. If anyone finds an answer to this please let me know ASAP!
Thank you. Your symptoms, and medication, are the same as mine. I feel so much better.
Only superior canal dehiscence can make your eyes noisy. Not related with meds
I just want to reiterate that I have been off anti-depressants several months now, last type was Paroxetine. Since stopping I have had NO dizzy spells, or noisy, light-sabre eyes, when I move them left to right etc. whatsoever. When I was on the anti-ds - it was a regular, daily occurrence at various levels. When tired, stressed or anxious, very, very bad. I am therefore convinced that my meds caused this condition and was just one of the many side effects of anti-depressants.
wow, thank you thank you THANK YOU. I quit taking my Zoloft (cold-turkey) over two weeks now and I did not even think about that being the problem to my problem.
Hi there - I did the same - quit Paroxetine cold turkey. The first few days I had the normal light sabre sounds and dizzy sensations but now all gone, thank goodness! It really was soo debilitating and docs had no idea what was going on. How bizarre.
I hear a sound (doink, doink) when I move my eyes also. Left to right, up and down. It come and goes. I saw my Ear,Nose,& throat guy and he had never heard of it. I read an article lately, within the last couple of months, and I can't remember what magazine, but it had to do with the same thing. A musician (saxophone player for a living) had to give up playing because it got so bad. It turned out to be a hole in a bone in the ear area. (Occipatal bone, I think..) They plugged the hole and he was able to resume the sax. It may have been in the AARP mag. I have been trying to find it to give to my ENT guy. If anyone locates it, please reply.
I saw similar article on you tube, named:Musician who heard too much. Disease is called:superior canal dehiscence
Hey fellas this may be a little late but I wanted to add something in case someone checks this out. I have gone to my opthemologist, neurologist and ENT and a chiropractor and from what I have noticed it seems to be a combination of elements that cause this sound and feeling of my eyes being bulgy. One thing that causes huge tension on them is my TMD which is commonly known as TMJ. Didn't know this but the muscles that help you squint can be affected by this disorder. Also I was diagnosed with chronic rhinitis which causes my eyes to feel runny and as if though they are bulging out. This is what I have found so far and if I find a solution ill post on here. One extra symptom that I have that I didn't see mentioned here is problems adjusting my eyes when looking into well lit places or an object with back light.
I just found this post and I am going through the exact same thing right now! I am only 30 days off my lexapro so reading your post was very, very helpful to me...thank you for taking the time to post it.
what was the result from your Neuro visit?
