Blepharitis, had it since age 11. Seems to be related to allergies. Worse yet, I'm allergic to most eye drops. The washcloth routine is worthless to me because they harbor so much junk I'm also allergic to, especially dust mites. Bleaching the washcloths doesn't even help. Doctors, everyone from allergists to opthalmologists and dermatologists, are really clueless and/or just don't care. Was wondering about eyelash implants, since the hair folicles would be different and stronger. Not that I have $6000 to spend to try.
o.O I noticed that my right eyelid was sparse in lash volume about a month ago, now theres a big clump missing. I could see the hair follicle before, and now nothing. I did a search to find more info, and now am shocked to see that I 'm not alone> Especially weird that its commonly the right eye that is affected. I went to my dermotologist and he said it was not something he was familiar with, even in reference to alopecia. I am a make-up artist by trade and frequently curl my eyelashes as well as daily mascara use. I got a little paranoid about the lashes I lost,so I switched mascara brands quite often. Still no progress. I'm wondering if it would be worth it to invest in revitalash or jan marini? anyone tried that stuff? any improvements?
i have been losing my eyelashes for like 8yrs now, and i really got used to this. its sad, as i have tried a lot of things to make it stop, but nothing has helped me...my eyelashes still grow back, but they are shorter and sparse. i use only eyeshadows, and mascara only once in a blue moon. i thought it would help my eyelashes to regenerate, but nth of the sort...im helpless
Just wanted you all to know it is very common. It happens to me too. I thought it was b/c I needed a new mascara and eyelash curler, but the ones missing on my right eyelid are from the root - very strange I thought, but I guess not now. When I was getting my make-up done for a wedding once the guy told me that in order to make your lashes grow and become fuller to use "Cuticle oil" (the oil they put on your nails and push back your cuticle - any beauty supply store usually has it) and ever since he told me that everynight I wash my face I put it on and let me tell you it does help. I just hold up my eyelid put it on my finger and blink my eyelashes in it (wish I could show you - hope I'm explaining this well). It sucks when they're at the root b/c it does take longer but they do come back. It's amazing what stress and makeup can do to us. Hope this was somewhat helpful - good luck ladies - to regrowing of lashes!!
I am 47 and having been having this problem for 7 years. It is the right upper eyelid only almost in the center where I have lost the lashes. They have grown back a few times (not very thick and are very weak) but I have no idea what the cause is. If I find something that works I'll share the info. I hate it and eyeliner still does not hide the issue. It seems most of us have the issue with the right eye - this is key. Could this be an emotional issue of us not wanting to see something in our lives? Mar
yes im also having the same problem and its really beginning to annoy me now. They just arent growing back and this is also my right eye. :-(

Hi, I have the same problem. First I was very worried because I lost 10 per day. I talked to Dr. He told me the main cause is being in stress. Because I am doing my phd thesis, I have so many stresses. The good thing is that the density of my eyelashes has not changed that much. I monitored them carefully and found that They are growing back. so there is no need to be worried. Try not to think about them and be relaxed. Dr. told me that the life time of each eyelash is 70 days. After 70 days it falls and is replaced by a new one.
Yes, your eyelashes will return. That is interesting about the life cycle of the eyelash being about 70 days, have never heard that one. Thanks for sharing that "Guest."
If your eyelashes don't return you may want to have your thyroid checked out as that is a symptom of hypothyroidism.

It sounds to me like this might be trichotilamania, as many people pull subconsciously and in their sleep.
have you had your thyroid checked? I lose eyelashes and eyebrows all the time and they come and go, I have Hoshimotos thyroid disease, have it checked by your doc
I lost several clumps of lashes from my right eye. I went to the dermatologist , he didn't seem to care either. Said it was an auto-immune disorder. What ? My eyelids itch like crazy before they fall out. Anyway I threw out tons of make-up for several months thinking I was having an allergic reaction, My right eye hasn't last any lashes for a while and they did grow back the same but now tonight my left eye has a patch missing.
I am in my early 50's. I don't get it. Never had this problem before until a couple of months after a friend of mine came to visit and she was missing eyelashes. I think whatever it is was passed to me from her !!!!
It is annoying it is weird that so many haave this undiagnosed problem.
I hope somone can give us all an answer. I am going to look up all of the suggested ideas the other writers offered and see if there is something in common.

I have almost EXACTLY the same problem and I'm happy (well, not happy, but relieved) to read that so many others do too!
However, mind don't itch.. they wiggle like there is a lose eyelash, but then when I go to pull it out, they come out in huge clumps. Ony on my right eye on the top. It's almost bald now! But the few I have left keep wiggling and it drives me crazy, I'm afraid I'm going to pull them ALL out!

Geez, I'm not alone in my problem! I lost a section of eyelashes on my right eye last November and after seeing no new growth in February I decided to start taking a hair, skin and nails vitamin. In about a month all the lashes had grown back. Now, on the left eye there's a section missing and unfortunately I ran out of the vitamin but this happened while I was taking it so now I have no idea what's causing it and what can help it grow back. I, as well, have changed mascaras and clean off my eyelash curler after every use but I'm stumped why I keep losing them. This is the first time it's ever happened to me.
Hi, I'm 39 years old and have had the same problem for a year a half. My baldness is on both top eyelids. I only have lashes in the middle and baldness on each side. I keep thinking it's my skincare products and have changed several times, but nothing makes a difference. If anyone finds anything that works, please post it!!
